has anyone watched Trillion Game? I just started it and fuck I really love the faces in this. it's kind of got that Death Note "everybody sucks here" style charm in the storytelling. it's hardly anything revolutionary but so far it's Kaji money game kinda entertaining

spent christmas morn watching that bootleg toonami stream (epic) and playing pokemon brown (less epic) i always get hyped finding a complete romhack, but this one really is Not It. does anyone know of any good ones that 1. are a new region 2. don't introduce many new pokemon (forms are okay) 3. don't introduce any new types? i got five minutes into Brown and found out "gust" is now "wind" type which is not super effective on fighting types and i'm like. bro. come on lmao

i think the main thing that frustrates me these days is how easy it is to just say some bullshit that is an easy solution to a problem you're unfamiliar with and act like you're being attacked when people point out you're misrepresenting the facts.

someone on bluesky was trying to argue that remakes and reboots are made with the intent of stifling films with "cultural messages" and like, idk, the winners of best picture for over two decades have been films that have cultural messages? if the industry is a monolith interested in squeezing out these types of films, why are these types of films still so successful?

there's just this weird idea that films and media create culture more than they respond to it. the entertainment industry is reactionary - they react to box office numbers and audience responses. Scott Pilgrim did not form a type of guy like a tulpa in the minds of 2000s movie goers, it reacted to a type of guy that already had existed for a long time.

general audiences are fickle, hard to predict, and will probably have a good time seeing anything unchallenging, so it's a safe bet to serve them what they already like. i won't deny there are people in film with the intention of spreading right wing messaging (just as there are people with the intention of spreading left wing messaging) - but simplifying an issue like this does a huge disservice to the good art that is out there and being made all the time.

anway here's my 2024 list if you want reccs of stuff that was Good that i think really disproves the idea that sloppy remakes with no messaging are the only thing being made today
