Lucy Anderson. 17. Runaway from Texas. I work at the bakery, even though I'd love to be a dancer or actress one day. Bit of a hopeless romantic. Talk to me!

"Cats are nice," Lucy mused. "But the whole appetite thing. Hopefully I won't be kicked out!" she giggled.
“Ya got that right! And little ‘Fire here’s got quite the appetite! ‘Sides, I think he’s more of a cat person anyway.”

"I'll bet," she laughed. "Dogs probably eat all of his food!"
“Great! I’ll have to drop Sapphire off at the house, though. The owner hates dogs…”

"Oh, uh, sure," Lucy blinked, surprised. "That sounds great."
“Either way, it took guts. Don’t undermine yourself too quickly. Anyways, I was gonna head to Tibby’s for a drink later. Ya wanna join me?”

Lucy shrugged. "I'm not really. It was just something that needed to be done."
“Oh, a rebel are we? Wouldn’t have thought you were the type. Props to you, then.”

She snorted. "No, definitely not. I ran away. That's all." Hopefully he wouldn't ask anymore.
Mason chuckled. “So why’d you move here, if ya don’t mind me askin’? Did ya pop get some sorta big-shot promotion so he moved your entire family here or somethin’?”

"Oh yes, definitely. It's more spread out and open. The cities are too though. It's not all country like some people think," she grinned.
“Oh, you’re sure a long ways from home then, miss.” Mason commented, still petting his dog. “I bet Texas is a lot different than New York, huh?”

"Oh. Um, well before I moved from Brooklyn to Manhattan, I lived in Texas. But I like New York much more," Lucy replied, nervously playing with her hands.
“Oh, no. No need to worry about that, she just likes to put a good scare into ‘em, is all. But yeah, I’ve been in Brooklyn for a couple of years now. I usually take a carriage down, but the drivers won’t let me bring Sapphire along. It’s alright though, I like to walk. It’s relaxing. Where’d you move here from?” he asked, cocking his head to one side.

"As long as she doesn't kill them," Lucy giggled nervously. "I come here almost every day I guess. After work usually. But I take it you live in Brooklyn then? Long walk. I used to live there for a little when I first moved here."
“Oh,” he said giggling. “Sapphire likes to chase the ducks around sometimes,” he bit his lip, trying not to laugh too hard. “So you come here often, I’m guessing? I only drop by once in a while. I can’t make the trip up from Brooklyn too frequently…” He shivered slightly as a cool breeze hit him.

"Ah, no, not really. The ducks here I guess," she laughed. "I see them enough. I feed them sometimes. So I guess they could be my pets?" Lucy looked fondly over at the pond in the distance.
“Pleasure to meet you Lucy. And she sure is! I won her in a bet!” Mason chuckled happily. “Do you have any pets?”

"Hi Mason. I'm Lucy." She held out a hand, then pulled it back in with a laugh. "Never mind, we can do formalities later. You have your hands full- wouldn't want her to get away again. Is she your dog?"
Mason chuckled, “Her name’s Sapphire. I guess you’re lucky she got to you as a puppy then. She’ll grow to get quite big when she grows up.” He scratched behind her ear. “I’m glad you’re alright though. I mean, she’s not big enough to do any real damage yet. I’m Mason, by the way. And you are?”

"No... No I think I'm fine," Lucy looked at her legs. "No, I know I'm fine. Sorry, dogs just make me a little nervous sometimes. Usually big dogs but... yea. No it's okay. What's its name?"
“I- I really am s-sorry. She’s usually re-really well-behaved.” he said as he struggled to control the pup. After a bit she began to get bored and relaxed in Mason’s arms. “I don’t know what got into her… You’re okay? Are you hurt at all?”

Lucy had been admiring a patch of flowers when she heard a short series of barking. Tensing slightly, she turned to see a puppy- a pretty big puppy at that- running up & jumping on her legs. Holding in a shriek, she tried to shoo it away. At least it wasn't too much bigger. A boy came up to her, grabbing the dog away. "I am so sorry, Miss!" he said. "No, it's- it's fine!" Lucy replied breathlessly, pushing a curl back nervously.
Mason was out for a much needed walk with Sapphire, a blue Great Dane puppy. He needed the air, she needed the exercise. Mason was enjoying the cool breeze as he watched a couple of hummingbirds flit about about when Sapphire tugged herself free and took off running. “Sapphire no! Come back here!” He yelled after her before taking off himself. The puppy was nipping at the back of a girl’s heels, causing her to jump about when he caught up and picked her up, saving the brunette. “I am so sorry, Miss!” he apologized to her profusely as the puppy wriggled in his arms.

Lucy hummed to herself, walking around the park. She was never really sure what to do with herself when she wasn't working, but she usually went to the park or went to the lodging house to sleep. She figured she should find more friends to talk with on a regular basis, & not just on occasion. Either way, the weather outside was a bit chilly, but she liked it so much more than the heat.

Lucy didn't usually work nights, but another employee wasn't able to, & they agreed to switch. Good thing it usually wasn't too horribly busy later in the day. She wiped down the counter, then headed to the back to get more cupcakes. Hearing the bell above the door chime, she scurried back to the front. "Let me put these up, and I'll be right with you!" She said cheerfully, not looking up. When the cupcakes were in their neat rows, Lucy wiped her hands on her apron. "Now, how can I he- Oh! Austin! Hi! It's been so long, how are you doing?" She grinned, excited to see him again.
It was a slow day, having slept most of it away. Boo was already at Irving Hall, rehearsing or performing, either way Austin just didn’t feel like going. He paced around the house for about an hour before his mom pushed him out the door and told him to go find something to do. He rolled his eyes at first, but soon went on his way. Austin searched high and low for something to do. Finally he found himself outside of the bakery he knew Boo’s friend Lucy worked in. He shrugged after a beat and went inside.

Lucy looked at her with wide eyes. "A gift?" She took it hesitantly. "Oh, Boo, you didn't have to get me a gift!" Admiring its wrappings, she opened it carefully, tying the bow around her wrist.
Boo smiled and took her bit of the cupcake. “Well, it is your birthday. How could we not have come around?” She nudged Lucy and handed her the wrapped gift. “Open this.”

"That's good..." Lucy trailed off slightly, still trying to look as cheerful as she had, but Austin's tone gave her something to worry about. She split the rest of her cupcake in two & gave both of them a half. "Here. Thanks for coming around today," Lucy smiled.
“Great!” Boo chimed, swinging her feet back and forth.
“Oh, I’m grand.” Austin said, sounding less enthusiastic about it.

Lucy beamed. "Thanks guys!" She hadn't expected for anyone to remember. Smoothing her hair, she looked at her two friends. "How are y'all today?"
Boo tugged on Austin’s sleeve. “C’mon, Austin!” She whined, wanting to see Lucy and give her the gift she’d bought. Austin still hung back though, drowsy from his sleepless night last night and sore from all the bruises his father had put on his arms last night. He blinked and walked just a little faster to keep Boo from tugging his sleeve against his bruise again.
“Luuuuuuuuuucyy!” Boo called when she was in sight. “Happy birthday!” She grinned and took a seat next to her, leaving Austin to stand or sit on the ground.
“We’re the same age now, little Lu. Happy birthday.” He smirked, reaching out to ruffle her hair.
