Final Piece
To create the final product of the zine I converted all of my images to cmyk and split the colour layers, then made these pure c, m y or k in indesign, then printed each sheet of paper five times, with the text on a separate layer as well. This created a misaligned lo-fi aesthetic all throughout the zine.
I feel I could have pushed the design of the zine a lot further, but took longer getting content than I thought I would and started the design late because of this. In hindsight I should have started designing the document as soon as I got my first photos and interviews so I would have had more feedback on this side of the project in tutorials. Overall I am happy with what I’ve produced in this project and it has solidified that I want to continue to explore work like this in the future.

Additional Content
Whilst my photography is the backbone of this project I felt the zine as a whole could use some other elements to tie it together so did some sketchy drawings from a couple photos and drew out logos from each venue.

Printing Research
I knew I wanted a lo-fi aesthetic for my zine so started looking into ways I could achieve this. I initially was very set on printing the whole zine with riso and did some tests trying out overlaying layers of the image to achieve a full colour look but the colour didn’t come out in a way I liked and I realised the amount of masters the project would require would be very high, I decided instead to try and simulate some of the riso effects of misalignement and hue shifting by printing the cmyk colour layers separately on my inkejet printer

Idea Generation and Initial Research
Going into this project I was set on the general themes and ideas as I’ve been wanting to work on a project that would incorporate my passion for live music and gig photography. I sat down and threw a few ideas around to specify this into a brief. I originally wanted to do a more polished magazine which I would brand but decided what I wanted to achieve for that idea wouldn’t be possible within the time frame. I decided a shorter format and a more specific topic would help the project be achievable. I settled on a project that focused on venues, later deciding to completely focus on Bournemouth venues as getting in contact would be easier and aid the feasability of the project.
To guide myself when designing the zine I sorted through my magazine collection and picked out things I liked. I also researched into a couple other zines and reminded myself of some basic layout principles by reading through pages in ‘New Page Design - Layout and Editorial Design’ published by Hoaki.
I began the project by sending out messages and emails to a number of venues and a couple bands. I got a surprising number of responses and managed to secure interviews with most of the venues I sent messages to. I wanted to conduct these interviews so I would be working with real content that I was passionate about when designing the zine, and also to further understand the places I was documenting to aid my design process.

EPM Group Project Research
We researched into competitors for our e-scooter brand which we will be creating an exhibition stand for. We also talked to Millie's sister who is a university student that frequently uses e-scooters to understand our audience more. After this we began to look at design inspiration and settled on a futuristic look for our design and decided on some fonts to use.

Concepts of Visual Language - One Day Group Project
This was a project that involved idea generation and collaboration. My group received a newspaper cutting with a story about the cost of private Covid booster vaccines and were required to make a work inspired by it. After a group talk and some points raised by Sally, our tutor, we decided to pursue visuals inspired by protest posters. We decided to all make an individual poster and later collage or combine them together in some way. As we had been talking about using collage as a group I decided to utilise it in my poster, and took inspiration from one of my favorite collage artists, Steph Dutton. I used photos in black and white to keep the mood serious and used a bright saturated colour in the background to make the black text and imagery stand out. Once we had all created our posters we decided rather than collaging them together physically it might be more effective to photoshop them into protest imagery and make a graphic with some sort of call to action against healthcare inequality. Overall I'm pleased with how we worked together as a group and think we made a relatively effective piece for a one day project.

Consolidation Week
During consolidation week I spent some time outlining a new direction for my D&AD work as I wasn't having much luck with photography. I took inspiration from vintage sewing pattern illustration and did some initial sketches to figure out a style.

Research Project Group Tutorial 1
In this tutorial I presented three questions from my initial research. I was most interested in the second idea, but was unsure how to format the piece of writing. It was suggested I look at the topic in terms of history, reasons for the development, and the influence of/on culture.
