The tragedy of loumand is that Armand didn't give Louis the time he needed to move on from Lestat (the coven plays its significant role too of course, but that's not the point of this post). At first, Louis didn't want to commit (are you companions? No — not that it was any of the coven's business. Louis is private), and can you blame him after how much Lestat hurt him? He told Armand he loved him before he meant it because it was easy. But if Louis never loved Armand, if he only stayed with him out of spite or he was trapped in a prison like some say... where is the tragedy in that? Is loumand just there to show how good lou.stat (and dm) is?

Louis loved Armand, it just happened later, when he got to really know him, when Armand wasn't a maitre or the person he thought he had to be, but when he showed glimpses of the real him to Louis, even without realising it. And Lestat disappeared because Louis actually started to feel something. But the problem with Louis is that when he really loves, he doesn't say it (why haven't you told him how much you love him?). And the problem with Armand is that he can't tell when someone loves him for real ("would he recognise it if he saw it?"). And Armand betrays him because he thinks he is losing him when in reality he really has him. And Louis' love for him becomes tainted, but it's there. It's always gonna be there.
