MDD410 REFLECTIVE BLOG
My name is Lonniesha Hammonds and I am a soon to be graduate of Devry University. I am currently enrolled in my last five classes before I graduate in a few weeks. During the March session I had the pleasure of taking a course that pleasantly surprised me, MDD410 or Emerging Multimedia Technologies.
When I first signed up for MDD410, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. Considering that my major is Multimedia Design and Development, and this was a requirement for my major, I expected it to be something that has to do with electronics or technology, hence the title of the class, “Emerging Multimedia Technologies”. Nonetheless I really wasn’t sure what aspect of multimedia and technology that it would entail, but I can say the overall curriculum pleasantly surprised me because it was very diverse in its topics and lessons over the 8 weeks so it wasn’t boring. Every week was a topic or assignment that I wasn’t expecting and they taught me a lot.
I think that one of the things that I learned the most about and found the most interesting was crowdfunding projects. Of course, I’d heard of them before but always connected it to concepts like GoFundMe, but there’s so much more to it. I loved to see the ideas people had and how they made them come to life with the use of crowdfunding. I think what I appreciated the most were the actual ideas for products that they had, because it was many things that I would love to use myself, like the device and app that teaches children the value of saving. This is something that I would definitely buy my 4 year old daughter. Ironically, a week after this assignment me and a friend of mine who’s a business owner were discussing crowdfunding because she had heard about it and I was able to give her insight based on what I learned in class. That alone proved this class to be very insightful and helpful for me.
The key take away that I will retain from this course is that technology has endless possibilities and is always changing. As long as us humans keep evolving so will technology and this may be a win win for everyone. This also applies to my field of graphic design, because it will always keep evolving with time and give us designers the ability to keep reinventing ourselves and our techniques.

Emerging Phones
Over the years cell phones have come a long way; from Nokias with black and white screens to full color touch screens that do basically everything that you can possibly act for. Specifically Samsung is coming out with a phone that actually physically bends(I know, crazy). When the Samsung Fold, folds it’s like a regular size phone and when you open it up it expands like a tablet like device. While some people may think the concept is cool, I personally think the idea is a little ridiculous. I feel like we as a society are becoming a little spoiled when it comes to phones and technology as a whole. My take on it is, it’s a waste of money and if you want a phone, you should buy a phone, and if you want a tablet you should buy a tablet. I think that any piece of hardware that physically bends is just too much and I will not be considering this device and I think a lot of people will agree with me.

Fad or Trend
In today’s society something can be here today and done tomorrow, so sometimes it may be hard to decipher what is a fad and what is a trend. This blog I will discuss fad and trends among emerging technologies. A fad is A desirable trend characterized with lots of enthusiasm and energy over a short period of time. A trend is what's hip or popular at a certain point in time. The main difference between a fad and a trend is a fad is usually short lived, while a trend has a longer life span.  One fad of the technology world was netbooks; dating back to the 2000s where they were particularly popular if you wanted a cheap “laptop” but they really were not worth the money and had too many inconsistencies. A trend over the years would have to be apps. Over the past few years apps have become extremely popular  when it comes to promoting business.
