i know it isn't outwardly stated in the movie, but I think we can gather that celine, while she attempted to be a loving guardian to rumi, may have accidentally caused rumi to develop a complex about love being conditional, that is later also accidentally strengthened by zoey and mira

because when rumi is a child, celine forces her to cover up her demon patterns, reinforces the idea that mira and rumi can't know about them, that nothing will change until they're gone

celine herself loves her under the condition of her being a hunter, and her mother's child, and explicitly ignores and tries to hide all the demon parts of her identity.

she distances herself from the only people in her life that she trusts, her family, and never lets them in under the fear that exposure to every facet of herself will push them away.

and after the idol awards, that's exactly what it does.

and while mira and zoey seem more angry and hurt about this secret being covered up for so long, about being lied to by rumi for years, they still backed away from her. still raised their weapons to her. reinforced the idea that celine had pounded into her head since childhood, that their love for her is purely conditional of her hunter/human status, and nothing else
