Our time here so far has been unbelievable. A couple days ago we went to an orphanage run by a woman named Mama Rose. Rose was an orphan herself and decided that when she became old enough she too would care for the kids on the street as she was cared for. She now had opened her home to 52 children (30 of them currently staying with her). And when we say "opened her home" it is exactly that. This is not an orphanage, but a house, and a small one at that. Over the years Young Life in Nairobi as well as some other folks have helped her out by building a make shift bedroom on the back for the boys. This year we cemented the "kitchen" area outside as it was all mud. I am so encouraged by this woman's obedience to God's call to us as Christians. God did not come to her in a dream and say "Rose, it's you're turn" but rather, similar to Isaiah, she overheard the call God has given to all of us and responded, "here I am, send me." Pray for us as we head to Kakamega this morning. We will be serving at camp this week. We are praying against the spiritual warfare that seems to be more common in Kakamega and that love, as it already has, wins.

We've made it to Kenya!! This weekend we got to spend some time in Nanyuki with out friends Andrew and Abby who do ministry with new churches in Northern Kenya. Pictured is a new church start in the Turkana community in Chumviyeri. What a sweet opportunity it was to worship with this body. In the last 4 years of returning to their land that they were run out of, the Turkanas have managed to rebuild their community and raise money amidst the challenges they face to build this church. It is absolutely not about a structure, but the sacrifice they've made to have a place to worship is unbelievable and inspiring. They started under a tree and now are under a roof. Praise be to God.

And it's beginning. I left for Ethiopia this morning at 3am with the #ylxa team. We have a 14 hour flight from DC to Addis (and I'm planning on sleeping 13 of those. Clearly waiting for lunch tho). Last night as we were praying I really felt a strong leading from The Lord to pray for identity. Identity over our team and even more importantly, individually. I asked the team to write down 3 beliefs about their identity that they hold on to that keeps them from walking fully in The Lord and 3 false beliefs about God that keeps us from seeing God for who he really is. My prayer is that this trip would be the opportunity for The Lord to speak into those things so sweetly and so specifically. Pray for peace. Pray for freedom.

It's already been a year and we are headed back to Africa. Part of our team leaves next week to lead trips in Tanzania and Ethiopia and the other part leaves August 4th. Pray for us as we travel. Pray for us as we serve. Pray for us as we walk for freedom to break chains of the enemy all throughout Africa and the world of kids. Pray as we desperately seek the leading of the Holy Spirit, not only next month, but now and beyond. Pray BIG prayers. We serve a BIG God.

"Pray for freedom to break chains and shackles that enslave young people all over the world physically and spiritually.  Specifically, in Africa please pray for forgiveness, restoration, reconciliation and redemption for all that was stolen, destroyed, ruined by centuries of the slave trade in Africa — and pray for a new generation of young people who are REALLY free spiritually and physically, who will proclaim and work for Freedom all over Africa…and beyond."(excerpt from YL Africa's Freedom Walk Blog)
Join us today in praying for freedom all over Africa.

Ephesians 2: 8-10 ‘For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.’
