Virtual Sketchbook 2
1.) JOURNALING : There are 7 different principles of design
Unity : Appearance is oneness, unified.
Variety has no order, and is very diverse.
Balance:Is the equilibrium, by symmetry or asymmetry of a picture.
Emphasis and Subordination:
Emphasis draws or pinpoints our attention to an area.
Subordination is the opposite of emphasis as subordination creates a neutral area that does not distract us from the area of emphasis.
Directional forces influences the way we look at art, paths that direct our eye to follow.
Repetition and Rhythm:
Repetition in art is a regular occurance giving the same flow, direction and emphasis.
Rhythm can also be created by repetition. However, rhythm has a structure of elements in a sequence.
Scale and Proportion:
Scale relates to the size of one object to another, almost as if you are comparing them.
Proportion relates to the part as a whole.
2. WRITING AND LOOKING:
I chose the successful artwork of Pablo Picasso, Guernica (figure 6.11,6.12 and 6.13, page 102). This particular drawing was composed of various stages. It began as a simple and small sketch to a huge work of art. This artwork was initially composed of gestural lines, color or grey and white throughout the art piece along with dark forms on the top center. Guernica, has the composition of a gored horse, a bull, screaming women, dismemberment, and flames. The painting shows the suffering of people and animals wrenched by violence and chaos.
3. CONNECTING ART TO YOUR WORLD:
Hue has affected my outlook of many things in my personal life. For instance, the color teal gives me a sense of liberation, freedom and joy. Reminding me of the things I enjoy to do most. I recall the many instances out of my family and I out on the beach and picking up seashells by the shore. Watching the sunset as the air molecules scatter away the and shorten the wavelengths of light (violet and blue) and the only light which penetrates through the atmosphere are the longer wavelengths of light (yellow, orange and red) which produce colorful sunsets. If I had to pick a color scheme of my life it would definitely be aqua, turquoise and teal.
4. ART PROJECT
The wet media that I chose to work with was with Valspar hydrochroma technology paint. Which consists of pigment binder, and a vehicle. The pigment binder would be the satin finish and the vehicle is Acrylic. However, I did prime my artwork before getting started by applying a satin paint and primer to the piece of the medium, a piece of birch plywood. The paint I used is Valspar, Satin, base B. In other words, Latex Paint. This Paint is completely water based. I also used a white 3D paint to make this painting pop out.The painting that I created was an escape from reality. It liberated my sense to express myself, the best that I could possible could. I am not a good artist, as I am a beginner and I hope you enjoy this. I drew this figurative art painting as it reminds me of the storm, before the calm on a rainy day at the beach. The waves of the beach bypassing the beach grass. As the waves crash onto the dunes, and the water returns back into the ocean. The content of my painting is symbolic as I made a strong connection to it as I feel like I am inside the storm. But just like the storm, this too shall pass. I was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

How do you know about these logos? (2 sentences);
I know about these logos because they surround my household and are the key to identifying an object or something. Logos are recognized primarily by looking at the picture more so than the words. By looking at the logo I understand the key function of the item, for example dressing myself for the day. I would find the logo and decide if it will be appropriate for the day and get dressed.
How do you understand the value of logos? (2 sentences);
Logos are more so portrayed as a figurative symbol of recognition. For example Apple, we clearly know it is an Apple product by the figurative “apple” integrated on the project. Also, I understand the value of logos by identifying brand names, messages and values.
