Text
2003, Broadmeadows run away train crash at Spencer Street station (southern cross).
Comeng 394M ran from Broadmeadows to Spencer Street (17km) with no driver or passengers inside before colliding with the N Class locomotive N463 vline passenger train bound for Bacchus Marsh, it was travelling at 75km/h at the time of impact.
The train got away at Broadmeadows bc the driver stopped by the toilet whilst swapping ends but had not activated the air brake. Wind and a slight incline in the tracks were enough to get the train rolling.
Comeng 394M surprisingly went back into service until 2022.
N463 is still in service today!!
