Tutorial week 6: group division and brainstorming
In this week's tutorial, after we grouped together, we started brainstorming ideas to add more interesting elements to our project. The name of our project is“Splash the spot”.I was reminded that this project is to fill the space with pigments, so I found an exhibition named "Mumbling Mud " in Shanghai in 2018 on the Internet.Grosse, the artist, used the airbrush as the main painting tool, painting the walls and fabric of the exhibition space with mottled paint to create large field-related paintings. She uses color to cross the existing boundary between the object and the built environment. We think the visual effect of this exhibition is very good, maybe we can learn from it. We wanted to create a fun space for families to connect with, not just adults.

Workshop 1 Concept development 2/9/2019
In this workshop, we were asked to look for pictures of two subjects randomly on Instagram and the two pictures we found were one of glow in the dark art and the other of concert. After discussion, we think we can apply noctilucent elements to our project. We can have people play a glow in the dark paintball game in the warehouse at Northshore. As for the concert, we used associative thinking to associate it with music, then the DJ, and then the bar. Associative thinking method is based on things that are close to, similar or relative characteristics and it is the method of connecting one concept or thought to another (Reynolds,2018). We also found that the hidden bar is a recent trend that attracts more tourists due to its mystery and freshness.Maybe we can turn the door of the warehouse into a door with a password to attract people to look for the password to enter the warehouse. We also developed the idea that we would provide visitors with a sense of 'adrenaline rush' with the aim of creating an exciting and positive environment on the north shore.

Week 7 Tutorial
Our team drew a storyboard on paper provided for this week's tutorial that shows our project vision. Our poster was done by that time, and it was a prototype that we could show our tutor. After the tutor discussed our project with us, she pointed out that our project needed to be better connected to the client brief and the Northshore. She also suggested that we should not only focus on the paintball game, but think more about the long-term future of the project and how to connect the site and the community to the Northshore. Subsequently we came up with the idea of “treasure hunt” that will also be designed to have enduring value so that it can be used in the future. It can not only present historical information about the north shore to visitors, but also arouse people's interest before the paintball game and serve as a kind of escape from daily life into another world.Systems thinking helps our team identify key problems and focus on solving them, making effective decisions, and innovating.

Workshop 3:Sketch up
In this workshop, we learned how to use sketchup for basic modeling. In my previous assessment, I also used sketchup for project presentation. I think it is a very practical software. In the workshop, we were asked to build a house with sketchup, which required us to use our geometric thinking and spatial imagination. This was not too difficult for me and I thought I could take on the task of 3D modeling with sketchup in our group if needed.

Independent research
When I was doing my research about media and apps, I have looked up some data showing that in 2017, there were 194 billion downloads of mobile apps while mobile phone users spending 87% more time on apps rather than on the web (Mobile Report, 2017).Millennials are three times more likely to be excited about new mobile apps and features than older users.Usage data for mobile applications can prove that using mobile applications as a conduit for project entity elements not only contributes to the digital footprint of the project, but has also proven to be an effective method of promotion. These statistics led us to decide to use the Splash the Spot app as the primary focus of accessing the game, considering the target audience of the project is also a critical reason.

Group discussion
In this group meeting, we shared our findings. In our last discussion, we were going to apply QR code to our project, meaning that people could scan the QR code and find the password to enter the warehouse. But we finally decided to remove the QR code and the code gate, but we decided to keep the code search process in the treasure hunt. Visitors will follow the instructions in the app to find the location of the warehouse and then check the code with the staff to enter the warehouse to play paintball game.

Sketch up
I took on the task of sketchup for our project. Based on their description, I first built the outer wall of the warehouse and then built a maze inside. Then I decorated the walls of the maze with some paint art pictures with black background showing the artificial effect of maze area after the paintball game.
Our group also proposed adding a preparation room for people to wear paintball suit to protect themselves and paintball guns to play games with.

Tutorial week 10
In the tenth week of the tutorial, we introduced our project to other groups and the results we have achieved so far, including our poster and sketchup. After taking advice from our tutors and other groups, we were still struggling with the sustainability of our project. We need to consider whether paintball paints are non-toxic and eco-friendly, and whether they can be washed without lingering on the skin.Whether the paint will pollute the water and the river after being washed is also a question we need to consider. We also accepted the suggestion of another group that each paintball game takes too long to play, so we cut them down from 45 minutes to half an hour.

Group meeting before the presentation
In this group meeting, we practiced our week11 presentation, our group member Vanessa integrated the video for our presentation. Because each of us had to pinpoint the moment we were about to start and video had to go live without a pause, we practiced several times and even re-edited video.

Evaluation of group prototype process
A prototype is an original model, shape or instance based on other processes.(May & Fincham, 2018) Evaluating the prototype process in the group shows how we went from system thinking to place making to considering diversity and sustainability.
At first, for the idea development, we used systems thinking to understand the client brief and develop the proposal concept in order to iterate the prototype. For our group, system thinking allows us to apply a system perspective to the systematic understanding of the interconnected aspects of the north shore and its structure and functions (Arnold& Wade, 2015), so that we can know which parts to consider and what elements we need to add. How to connect the Northshore to the community and the people and build a relationship between them is a core element that we need to consider.Through the system thinking, we added the grow in the dark elements to a normal paintball game and also the treasure hunt process.
After integrating different opinions into a cohesive vision, we need to translate these visions into an actionable plan and program. At this stage we need to consider the place making. Placemaking inspires people to re-imagine and redesign public spaces together as the heart of each culture. Placemaking refers to a collaborative process by which we can form our public realm in order to maximize shared value by enhancing the connection between people and the places we visit.(Project for Public Spaces, 2007).‘Splash the spot’ cleverly turned the warehouse into a place for exciting paintball games for the community.Through the treasure hunt to bring people to the Northshore to have interaction and communication between different communities, integrate diverse opinions into a cohesive vision. it can be seen as a process of placemaking.
In the end, we made sure that the program was sustainable and diverse, the paintball paint is non-toxic and would not affect the environment and that our program was not aimed at a single audience, but at different communities.Extensive and sustained community participation is critical to the success of multicultural venues.(Project for Public Spaces, 2007).Therefore, it would also meet the requirement of achieving diversity.
Furthermore,"Splash the spot" could consider running paintball on weekends, but also on school holidays or at night to attract more visitors to the north shore.

Personal reflection on my role and contribution
In this assessment, I think my personal contribution to the final result is my sketchup. Sketchup is a great way to show the specialization, personalization and authenticity of our projects. It can help us understand the project more visually and intuitively. My team members and I kept discussing about the shape of the warehouse and the construction of the inside, aiming to build a beautiful and mysterious maze to attract more visitors.I also worked out a lot of the details, like the equipment in the preparation room and the colors in the maze area.even outside the plant environment. It can be said that this sketchup presentation is not much different from what we ultimately wanted.

Development of skill & teamwork
My teamwork and personal abilities have been well developed in this semester's evaluation. My critical and creative thinking has also developed, in the face of problems with new and unique thinking activities to obtain a new explanation of the problem.I have also developed my communication skills in the process of teamwork. Since I was not good at putting forward my own ideas in the past evaluation, I have gradually started to actively communicate with team members and put forward my own opinions.
Our team cooperated very harmoniously and the team members were willing to help other members after finishing their tasks with high quality.Everyone constantly improve themselves, play their strengths and strive to contribute to the results of the project. We can say that we are an excellent and well-coordinated team.

Recommendation
1.In terms of the proposal future development, the clients are able to choose to keep the treasure hunt part for renovation, a process that still led new visitors to the north shore for sightseeing and other activities.Or they can choose to tear down the maze wall at the end of the project and use the decorated warehouse as a venue for future events such as concerts or parties.
2. In order to achieve an iteration of the project concept somewhere in Brisbane beyond the Northshore site and the client brief.I propose James street as another viable site for the project, because even though it is a new business district in Brisbane, there are also many historical sites in its vicinity that are worth exploring and do the treasure hunt, such as St John’s Cathedral. There is also a warehouse which is suitable for the visitors to play paintball games near James street in Robertson street. In the process, visitors can explore James street and play exciting paintball games.James street can also well adapt to the clients brief and promote the number of visitors and its own business value while carrying out the project.
