How the Day Started in Pulag We thought four layers of clothing is enough. The cold wind was biting. But as soon as the gradient of red drew a perfect line in the horizon, our excitement kept us warm. That’s how the day started in Pulag, where fiery red signaled the new day above the clouds. Red, the color of fire, defeated the cold. (at Mt. Pulag Natural Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwOLPx1nLN6/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1rkz7k5y3n3y8

I am a son of the digital age. I began my love affair with the camera in 2010, with a rickety point-and-shoot I usually borrow from several acquaintances. Today, out of curiosity, I tried shooting in film with a Canon EOS 300 single lens reflex (SLR) camera I borrowed from Mj. It was awesome, in every sense of the word! The over-all feeling you get from carefully planning how to utilize the 36 shots of a single roll of film, the sound that the camera produces as you press the shutter button, to the anxious feeling of thinking how the frame would look like and finally, to have the photo printed is totally unexplainable. Thinking about the frames I shot today, it made me appreciate more the skills of the photographers of the film generation. How they nurtured patience to wait for a decisive moment and the determination to carefully study their gear is amazing. In the digital arena where the number of photos This is Gelo, one of the frames I took today in Davao. Seeing me dangling a camera, he and his friends called me as I took a stroll around the heart of downtown Davao looking for an interesting piece for a photograph. "Picture-i mi kuya," he shouted. I obliged. He approached me after, saying he wants to view their photos on the screen. By the look on his face, I can say he was a bit disappointed. “Ay, karaan man diay na imong camera,” he said. I had to explain a little, and requested him for me to take his portrait for a remembrance. If only he and his fellow digital natives (me included) know how amazing it is to shoot in film. What I know is that today will not be the last time I'll be shooting in film. Film is not dead. All the best, Louie. PS: The downside is that there are no more films for sale here in Tagum so I have to travel to Davao to buy one. PS2: Look at this color. I think no amount of a VSCO filter can emulate the color of the photo produced through a film. #filmisnotdead #filmphotography

Not far from downtown Baganga in Davao Oriental, there’s a relatively unknown waterfalls called Curtain Falls, named so because its cascading water resembles that of a curtain. Devoid of any development except for rickety cottages found on both sides, Curtain Falls is undeniably a good spot for any soul looking for a raw adventure.
