Ch2: making friends human or yokai

The day starts out normal for everyone.. well, as normal, it can get for someone who can see yokai, Asami had overslept, so when she woke up, she freaked out

Asami: Ahh, I overslept! ....strange Ichika normally wakes me....

She gets up and gets ready and heads downstairs

Asami: strange... I guess Fuyuka is still asleep... the house feels empty

She goes to the kitchen and sees a note by Ryuusei

Asami: Oh, he made me lunch this morning

She goes to the Fridge and grabs her lunch

Asami: I guess someone needs an exorcist really early this morning, so they called my brother...

Zen’Yuu: hmm

Zen’Yuu is a powerful snake yokai he likes to take human form around the house, and his nickname is noddle (Asami calls him that constantly due to the fact that Zen’Yuu takes on the form of a pet snake when he's he wants to be seen by humans). Zen’Yuu likes Ryuusei more than Fuyuka and Asami, even though Asami was the one that broke his seal and set him free, at the moment he is mad that Ryuusei left with none of the yokai 4 going with him on some exorcist Banquet

Asami: Hey, Noddle.

Zen’Yuu: ... hi...

Asami: weres Ichika?

Zen’Yuu: she said that she was going of a walk this morning..

Asami: Ah, so why didn't you wake me up?

Zen’Yuu: child, I wanted quietness especially - uh, aren't you going to be late?

Asami: Ah! Well, take care of the house while I'm gone! ALSO, DON'T DO ANYTHING STUPID!

she runs out the door and goes to school, Zen’Yuu is just staring at the door , and with that look that he doesn't want to be here, truns away and sighs

Zen’Yuu: she's going to be the end of me...

When Asami was on her way to school, she saw Natsume

Asami: hey you! You're Natsume right?

Natsume stops and looks behind him and sees Asami, Asami runs to him

Natsume: Yeah, Matoba, right?

He shifts a little still on edge

Asami: Yes, but you can call me Asami. Are you late for school too?

They start walking

Natsume: yea... should I ask her?

Asami: Are you ok? You seem off

Natsume: ...yea

Asami: I have a question

Natsume: hm?

Asami: You can see them. Can you?

Natsume: what?

Asami: You can see yokai

Natsume: I don't kn-

Asami: Don't lie

Natsume: How do you know?

Asami: I can see them too, and the yokai in the forest kept talking about you

Natsume looks away kinda annoyed by the fact it was yokai

Natsume: Is that so

Asami: Hehe, I'm glad I found someone who can see yokai like me. I will feel less alone at school now

They finally get to school and enter the classroom

Asami: We were not too late

Natsume walks to his desk and puts his head, and falls asleep

Nishimura: Wow, he's out cold..

Asami: he was probably up last night

Nishimura: Yeah, probably doing fun

Asami: .... what?

Bell rings and class starts natsume sleeps for some time it's break time everyone Nishimura leaves with Kitamoto, Asami sees that Natsume is still asleep

Asami: Wow, he slept through class

She walks over with a notebook in her hand she lightly taps him on the head with the notebook

Asami: Wake up, sleeping beatty

Natsume: mmm..

He raised up in his seat, still half asleep

Asami: good your somewhat awake

Natsume: mmh yeah

Asami: Jeez, you must have been up all night. Try to get some sleep at night, alright

Natsume: Yeah... I'll try

He looks out the window, looking at the school yard staring at the yokai writing in the dirt he finds it kinda funny

Asami: yokai are so fascinating, aren't they? I've always been curious about them

Natsume: why?

Asami looks out the window

Asami: I think it's because I don't understand what their thinking...or how the deal with emo-

She sees a very familiar fox yokai talking to the yokai writing in the dirt she slams her hands on natsume's desk

Asami: Ichika! What's she doing here???

Natsume: Huh?

Natsume looks confused, but he sees the fox yokai he's never seen this yokai before, and he finds it strange that Asami knows this yokai by name since the Matobas aren't that friendly to yokai

Natsume: she's a Matoba, a strange one at that

Bell rings, and class starts again now. Asami isn't paying any attention she messing with a pencil on her desk and then just doodles in her notebook she's ready for lunch she wants to see what her brother made for her, she wonders if she should ask natsume to have lunch with her she wants to make him her friend, her first friend that's human, towards the end of class she messing with the pencil but it slips out of her hand and rolls pretty far away on the floor, Nishimura looks over and see that Asami looks defeated with her head on the desk, he doesn't question it and looks back at the front of the class, Asami is questioning her her life decisions on how she got to this point of losing her pencil, finally it's I'm for lunch she grabs her lunch and walks over to Natsume

Asami: Hey, Natsume wanna eat lunch together... you don't have too, just wondering...

Natsume: I'm sorry, but today I'm eating lunch with Kitamoto and Nishimura today

Asami: I see it's ok

Asami goes to the school yard and sits on one of the benches, seeing what her brother made for her

Asami: .. No way! Ryuusei made me tonkatsu

She puts her hands together and closes her eyes for a moment, then starts eating. Ichika comes up behind her and hugs her, and then she tries to take some of Asami food

Asami: Don't...

Ichika: Aww

Asami: why are you here anyway

Ichika: looking for wood

Asami: ... why here, though?

Ichika: Well, I was planning to make charms

Asami: You always like giving people charms

Ichika: Yeah, do you think they will like them?

Asami: .... maybe... I think they'll like them

Asami smiles. She gets done eating and gets up, waves bye, then heads back to class, and the day goes on back in the classroom. Asami is looking at the desk. There's a small yokai on her desk, and she doesn't know what to do without looking weird, so she's just stares at it

Asami: I wonder what it wants....

She lightly pokes it with her pencil she just kinda spaced out for a bit, wondering back when she was little, she remember a time when she was looking at herself in a puddle of water back then her hair was cut short due to a few kids putting things in her hair that was a real pain to get out so they had to cut it. Asami, at the time, didn't like the fact that it had to be cut. It was early, and she really didn't want to go to school with that short of hair, so when she was looking at the puddle, she felt a hand on her head it was a teen Seiji Matoba this is how it when

Asami: I look weird with short hair

She stares at the puddle, looking at her reflection

Asami: I don't wanna go to school looking like this

Suddenly, a hand is placed on her head, and she freaks out

Asami: ahh a yokai has come to eat me!

Seiji laughs that when she looks up and sees that it was him

Asami: Oh, it's you

Seiji: what's with the new hair cut? Trying to be like your older cousin

He chuckles since the way her hair was cut it looked like his (at the time). he rubs her head, and Asami taps his arm, prompting Seiji to let's go

Asami: Kids putting stuff in my hair...it was a pain to get out, so we had to cut it...

Seiji: Is that so?

Asami: By the way, why are you here? Did you get up late?

Seiji looks annoyed by the questions

Seiji: yea now come on

Asami: huh?

Seiji looks at her

Seiji: I'm walking you to school

Asami:... fine

They start walking

Asami: .... the kids are going to make fun of me more...

Seiji:...more?

Asami: yea... they all think I'm crazy... or just insane... that I'm doing this for attention... did the same thing happen to when you were little?

Seiji keeps quiet for a second

Seiji: You shouldn't like such some inconvenient thing like that bother, you so much....

She looks at him, and that is when Asami snapped back to reality she realized she zoned out for a pretty long time, and it's almost the end of the day

Asami: odd... why did that memory pop into my brain....I normally don't think about the times I spent with Seiji...

Nishimura: Oh, whose this Seiji person?

Asami: Wait, did I say that out loud?

Natsume: yea, did you zone out?

Asami looks down and closes her eyes and sighs

Asami: yea....I'm bad about it

Nishimura: zoning out all of the time?

She looks at Nishimura with a little bit of a shocked face she's surprised that someone is interested in what happens in her mind

Nishimura: What's with the face? Did I say something wrong?

Natsume: Nishimura, I think you just surprised her

Asami: yea never noticed people who seemed interested in talking to me. I've been too much of a loner to notice

She scratches the back of her neck

Nishimura: Really?

Asami: yea

Nishimura: You're just like Natsume in the sense of being a loner

Asami: Huh?

Nishimura: yep

Everyone is leaving, and Asami is taking to Natsume and Nishimura, meanwhile out side Kitamoto and Tanuma are waiting on Natsumes and Nishimura , Ichika there to while waiting on Asami Ichika is messing with Kitamoto bag poking it with a stick since she'll can't be seen to the normal eyes then she puts the charms,that she made, on Kitamoto and Tanuma's bags but when she got near Tanuma he got a headache a, he gets that way when yokai are near him he can't see them but he still sense them, Ichika noticed and puts a special charm on his bag that helps headaches not get worse, it's can't get rid of headaches but it stops it from getting worse, then she goes back to poking Kitamoto bag again with the stick, until Asami, Natsume and Nishimura walk out Ichika gets up runs to Asami side waiting for her to stop talking to Natsume and Nishimura. Asami waves bye to them as they part ways kind of they all walking the same way so Asami waits for a bit before leaving with Ichika. Meanwhile, as the guys are walking, Natsume notices the charms on Kitamoto and Tanumas bags

Natsume: So uhh, when did you put key chains on your bag

Tanuma: Huh?

He looks at his bag and sees the charm on his bag

Kitamoto does the same

Kitamoto: Where did this come from

he takes it off, and it looks noticing the bonsai tree Carved into the wooden charm

Kitamoto: There's a bonsai tree?

Tanuma looks at his

Tanuma: mine has lavender

Nishimura: It's probably from a girl

Kitamoto: maybe and we didn't notice it

Natsume sighs. He thinks it was that fox yokai (Ichika) that put them on there, They continue walking, but Tanuma, his hand close to his face and starts whispering to Natsume

Tanuma: By that sigh, something tells me you know who or what put them on our bag

Natsume: Yeah

He looks at Tanuma with a tired expression on his face, then whispers

Natsume: I saw a yokai next to Kitamoto and poking his bag with a stick she looked harmless since she ran to Asami

Tanuma: Asami? Is that girl you and Nishimura was talking to?

Natsume: yea she my new classmate...

Natsume doesn't want to tell him that Asami is someone who can see yokai, so he kinda spaced out, Tanuma noticed

Tanuma: Natsume?

Kitamoto and Nishimura: Come on, slow pokes!

Some time past everyone is home or just got home, Asami just got home taking her shoes off and walks into one of the rooms where Fuyuka is, she has having some tea staring at the very blurry wall with Zen’Yuu and another two other yokai one named Oumi, she's a beautiful one, though the weakest out of the 4 yokai she plays the flute, she's also the yokai that's been with the siblings the longest she's been with them since Fuyuka was a freshman in high school, the other yokai, a tengu named Syuuto he's well.. interesting, unlike most Tengu, he doesn't have those noticeable features that most have to make up for it he has a mask with those features on it, and Syuuto is always or seems to be drunk he has a few nicknames but drunken crow or drunken tengu sticks then the others, he's the 2nd strongest out of the 4 yokai, at the moment his head is on the table

Ichika: Oh, the drunken crow is passed out again

Zen’Yuu: Yeah, he drank my sake all of it

Asami: You seem really calm about it. You are normally very mad

Zen’Yuu stays quiet and scratches the table

She giggles a little

Fuyuka: By the way, do you need something? Asami?

Asami: I thought of a memory, and I wonder if we have pictures when I was little

She grabs a few photo albums and looks through them she finds the picture of her with short hair next to Seiji

Asami: so we did keep this photo

Zen’Yuu looks over her shoulder and and he covers his mouth

Zen’Yuu: that's you what happened with your hair

Asami: We had to cut my hair because kids were putting things in my hair

Zen’Yuu: You look silly

He goes silent for a moment, looking at the photo

Zen’Yuu: who's that?

He points at Seiji in the photo

Asami: Oh, that Seiji

Zen’Yuu looks at her, then looks back at the photo, then he tilts his head

Zen’Yuu: Seiji?

Fuyuka: he's the leader of our clan

Zen’Yuu: ... really?

Fuyuka: Yeah...

She tilts her head down and closes her eyes her hands on the tea cup grips tighter than before, like she is trying not to get upset over the fact that her eyes sight is "gone. ".... and she was deemed useless by the clan. This always seems to be in her mind every time they brought up anything that was related to the clan in some way

Zen’Yuu: hm? Is it really that painful to think about....

Fuyuka: yea but I need to forget... I can still see yokai their just a blur like everything else. I can still hear and feel them their just blurry

Asami: Sorry for bringing it up, sis

Fuyuka: it's alright. You just wanted to look back

She gently smiles with a tired expression

Asami: I'll make dinner!

Asami makes a yummy dinner then for a bit they listen to Oumi play her flute, Asami reading a book while Fuyuka has her eyes close softly humming to the tune of the flute time passes it's getting late so Asami and Fuyuka get ready for bed then go to bed all except for Asami lying on her futon staring at her ceiling it's dark the slight moon light coming in to her room though the curtains she can't sleep so she sits up then get up open her curtains and opens her window she sits on the windowpane staring at the sky she'll go to bed soon after she done looking at the sky

Ch1: Life in a new place

This is really long sorry about that idk if anyone one would like to read this

Oh, I'm still figuring everything out, but anything in Italics are thoughts

Sorry if you if the characters name with ":" in front of it followed by what they say I'm not great at writing so bear with me

Part 2

The sun rises in a way it looks like a painting of some sort. The light shines through the curtain onto the floor, and some of the boxes that were yet to be open, it was peaceful and quiet until the door slid open with a fox yokai named Ichika she likes to make an entrance , very playful and loud

Ichika: Asami! You ready to play!

Asami shot up from the futon, Ichika scared her pretty bad. Once Asami realized that it was Ichika, she threw her pillow at her

Asami: Do you have to be so loud?

Ichika: I wanna play! So I have to be loud

Asami: .... I can't play right now. Today is my first day at my new school, speaking of which I need to get ready

Ichika: He he he see you downstairs!

Ichika closes the door. You could hear her footsteps running down the stairs. Asami got ready and heads downstairs. She heads to the kitchen

Asami: Mmm, what should I make?

Ichika: leftovers over shrimp from last night!

Asam: Oh yeah...and please keep it down

Ichika covers her mouth

Ichika: Oops, sorry

Asami cooks the leftover shrimp and puts some on two plates, giving one to Ichika. Asami is eating her food and then makes her lunch after that goes to put on her shoes she waves bye, and she leaves.

Today was beautiful, the leaves dancing in the slightly breeze, Asami walking then she saw that ash blonde hair boy again

Asami: it's him again... H- no, no, I shouldn't yell... I might spook him... just keep walking..

Once she gets to school, she heads to the class, and she sees him again

Asami: it's him again. I have a class with him !

Nishimura: hey we got a new student and she's a girl

Natsume: .....

Natsume is kinda staring at the windows or that is what it seems like to the normal eyes but he's actually looking at a yokai writing in the school yard he doesn't know if he should question it or not

Nishimura: eath to Nat-

Teacher: welcome our new student

Asami: just call me Asami... Asami Matoba

Natsume jots and look at the front of the class

Natsume: Matoba... did I hear that correctly...

Nishimura: looks like someone is interested

Natsume: ...it's not like that

Asami: can I go sit down?

The teacher nods and says to sit in the empty desk in the back as Asami sits down. Class starts as class continues. Natsume is wondering if he really heard Matoba . Now he's wondering if she is really part of Matobas, and if so, did Mr. Matoba (Seniji Matoba) sent her here to keep an eye on him. This stays on his mind for the rest of class. When it's lunch, Natsume is at ease a little, Asami stands up with her lunch and leaves the classroom

Asami: I want to eat alone but were.. this is hard. Am I going to adjust to this... I should be glad that no one knows that I'm from a family of exorcist well now I shouldn't be worried.....

She finally is alone, so she sits down and eats

Asami: it's best if I'm alone....

Asami looks down as a flash back to the end of Ryuusei rant at dinner the night before

Asami: they it's was nothing important, but Ryuusei sounded very angry... They never tell me anything... but... I can't blame them... the clan can be cruel...

She takes both of her hands and smacks the sides of her face

Asami: Get it together, Asami! You can't think negative stuff!

She sees a small yokai, the yokai looks like a little bunny, it's harmless it's just there

Asami: .... would you like a strawberry?

She looks at the little bunny yokai with a strawberry in her hand. The yokai except the strawberry and eats it

Asami: Aww, so cute

The rest of the day went alright, but natsume was still a little on edge until school let's out Asami was walking, but she had a sudden urge to go it's the forest she walks into the forest because she wants to she also she wants to find a spot where she can go every day when school let's out as she's walking she hears the yokai chatting about things and about... the grandson of Reiko? She's curious now, stops and listen, and another says something about... master Natsume?

Asami: Grandson of Reiko? Natsume? Hmm, how interesting... yokai sure do like talking

She continues walking until she finds an odd place it's a pond with a huge weeping willow tree near by she likes the place

Asami: I like it here.... I'll stay for a bit..

She walks to the tree and sits down, taking a look at the beautiful scenery that looks like something out of a fairytale. it was peaceful until a cat showed up or what she thinks is a cat ( this cat is madara/ master kitty-cat)

Asami: Uhh... a cat? Maybe it's not a cat?... Whatever it is, it's weird looking

Madara: This child has a similar arura as that pirate princess tightrope walker. I don't think she'll be a problem

Madara turns around and leaves leaving Asami in a state of confusion for a moment she snap out of it and goes home

Later at the Fujiwaras natsume is in his room studying then the door slides open

Natsume: on one of your walks?

Madara: Yes, you didn't get yourself involved with the Matobas again did you?

Natsume: What are you on about...now that you mentioned it we had a new student ... I think I missed heard her, though

Madara: Hmm, how so?

Natsume: she said I'm Asami Matoba... I think or I miss heard her..

Madara: ....hmm, I met a girl that has a with the similar arura to that of the pirate princess tightrope walker...

Natsume looks exhausted.

Natsume: ... for the last time, it's Matoba

Ch1: Life in a new place

Part one

I am using the appearance of the characters in the anime not the manga

CW: things might get a little bit emotional I don't know how I'm going to write this but mainly more on the emotional side of things

I'm also using my ocs in this too

There's going to be a lot of spelling errors this is also not proofread

This is really long as I don't know the word count this is my first time writing a story

It's a nice day quiet, or that is what it looks like to a normal person, but for the ones who can see things that aren't meant to be seen, it's strange not really quiet either...

An old house has had people move into it just a few days ago, and the house is big with a pond in the backyard. The front yard is spacious. Though the grass hasn't been cut, there is a tall fence with a stone path to the front door . What looks like to be three people to the normal eyes, but those with that 6th sense can see that there are extra people?... No... Is it a yokai ... multiple of them, 4 to be exact. two of them next to the woman with long brown hair who looks to be in her 22 to 23 , walking behind her two people, a young man with messy brown hair that is shoulder length maybe 19 or 20 with a few boxes in his hands and a teen girl wearing glasses and has her hair in two braids she's also holding some boxes with a fox yokai beside her and the fox yokai runs ahead to open the door to the house.. the woman stops at the front door with another yokai helping her in.. the woman is blind but she hears and feels yokai she can see them, but less blurry than everything else. The yokai took her hand and led her inside, followed by everyone else. The teen girl chose the room at the far end of the hallway of the second floor to be her room and put some of the boxes in that room, then goes to help her brother to bring in more of the boxes and asks to the other 3 out of the 4 yokai to help them..

Later, she asked her brother if she could go outside to explore since she'll be going to school here soon. Her brother says that she can and to be back before sundown.

The teen girl was walking around, but now, standing in front of a house, she was a little startled by the yokai on the roof they were loud and called themselves the Dog-Cat Society? She's curious about them, but also, knows it looks really weird to be standing around someone's house that doesn't even know you.. She's about to walk away but get startled again by a voice telling them to stop being chaotic... another yokai? ....No.. a teen boy with ash blonde hair, she looks at him with shock she thought she would be the only one( besides her siblings) In this neighborhood to see yokai, she wants to talk to him but she's a little scared too she's never been that good at talking to others so she took off running so she won't let him know that she heard and was looking at him and the yokai

Later, she's at home just in time for dinner. Her brother has already made the table with some delicious food that he's already prepared. Their sister sitting at the table Ryuunsei, her brother stepping out of the kitchen

Ryuusei: "Asami, your home," a warm smile on his face

Asami: "The food smells delicious! Yum, " she's about to run into the kitchen, but Ryuusei stops her

Ryuusei: "You're covered in dirt, get washed up, then come and eat dinner... also, how did you get covered in dirt?...Let me guess, yokai?"

Asami: "No, I tripped from running." She rubs her neck and walks off to get cleaned up

Ryuusei: "ok," he's a little suspicious, but he brushes it off and heads back into the kitchen

Fuyuka, the older sister, hears Ryuusei walk back in

Fuyuka: ...

Ryuusei: "You're quiet as always... Asami will be joining us here in a minute"

Fuyuka: .... "do you think anyone will find out that we're part of the Matoba Clan?"

Ryuusei looks away with that, give me a break, look on his face

Ryuusei: "Like their anyone here who are exorcist or has ties to one"

Fuyuka: "You're right, just paranoid considering the fact that we are technically disowned by the family... because of me..."

Ryuusei: "Stop cutting yourself down... They only deemed you useless because you lost the ability to see humans. Therefore, they thought that you couldn't see yokai... but you can still hear and feel yokai and see them. They still come up clear to you than any human does..... You know they only want the best of the best. At this point, I would rather not be associated with them they make me sick..."

Asami comes back from getting cleaned up only hearing the last bit of Ryuusei rant

Asami: "Huh, so what were you guys talking about?"

Fuyuka: "Nothing important, sis ... why don't we eat"

Ryuusei: "Let's..."

OK, this has been on my mind for a while now since I'm been binge watching natsume's book of friends it's also bugging that it's never mentioned again (except for season 5 ep 8) in the series going forward

when we first meet Natori, and Natsume asks why he wore glasses sometimes, he says, "It's easier to see yokai though glass or at reflection in the mirror"

And we know that Tanuma can see yokai, but it's mainly their shadows or hazy figure of a yokai. The point is he can't see them all that well

Now, I might seem crazy here, but here me out

If Tanuma wore glasses, would he see them better, like, would they be more clear to him? I feel like he would see yokai better if he wore glasses due to the fact that Natori himself says it makes it easier to see yokai if looking through glass or at a mirror, meaning that Tanuma would be able to see yokai more clear if he looked at a mirror or had glasses

But in the end, it's just my thoughts

I feel like Shin would like chubby women. I don't know why, but like it's settled, not like a big thing, he just thinks they're cute he pretending to not be attracted to them but he is like he thinks that they will be soft like a plushy and he would probably give them a bunch of kisses
