I want to be a star

But not one of the big beautiful ones everyone knows

I just want to cast a gentle light for others to find their way

To guide them to peace and where they belong

I want people to curl around me for comfort as I whisper assurances to them of humanities great capacity for love

I want to love and be loved the way Stars are even when they die

You have changed the very fabric of my being did you know that? The very colors of the world are different to me now.

Red like your hair, your love, your favorite colors. The color of the lights in your room where we slept and I badgered you to make sure to change them before you went to bed

Orange like the lights of the movies we watched, the hanging candles in your room, the sunset through your bedroom window

Yellow like the leaves of our flower, the sunflower. Like the color of daffodils

Green like the paint I used to cover you with before we drove to the river that you sat in for me

Blue like my eyes, so full of love for you even now that we are not together and I don’t know how you feel

Purple like the shaved ice on Wednesdays at work over summer

White like the snow we both loved for its foreshadowing of snow days filled with more time at work with the kids

Grey like the clouds filled with rain we love, I wanted to take you dancing in the rain

Brown like your eyes that used to shine with so much love for me, is it still there I wonder, or do I just see what I wish to see

My life has been forever altered by you. My favorite colors, my favorite flowers, my comfort movies. I love you, I’m forever in love with you.
