What do you do when a bad experience meeting a creator taints your enjoyment of the creation? This happened to me, no joke, a year ago and I recently read news of the thing and I just... cannot get get excited anymore. It makes me feel bad.

one of the ways i know this culture has a massive issue with consent
is the sheer amount of people I’ve known that just lie & tell people they’re deathly allergic to foods they dislike
because otherwise people will hound them, mock them, coax them, harass them, try to force them to eat it, or even trick them into eating it, and they will never hear the end of it
your coworkers will bake it into a fucking pie, call it something else, and wait til your birthday, gather everyone and their first cousins to sit around in a circle waiting for you to put a forkful into your mouth and then point rhythmically at you in a chanting, glaring, sweating, unholy circle like SWISS CHARD SWISS CHARD YOU JUST ATE SWISS CHARD HA HA HA SWISS CHARD NOW YOU LIKE SWISS CHARD
Because forcing someone into a situation where they don’t feel safe declining putting something into their body they’d rather not be there is totes 100% wholesome American fun
And this is something so known that it’s infinitely easier to just lie and tell people that you’ll die if you eat that food…which actually doesn’t always stop it from happening

I work at a daycare with infants.
One of our baby girls is fat, in the 99th percentile for her age. She is super cute and sweet. Lately, she has been sick with various breathing issues, so she has been reluctant to take her bottles. Normally, she’ll take 4 ounces of formula at lunch and 8 ounces in the afternoon. Today, I was lucky to get to her take 5 all day.
There was a substitute covering a lunch break in my classroom today. We emphasized to her that we need to keep trying to get the baby to drink her bottle until she finished it. She said, “Why are you guys so worried about taking her bottle?”
My coworker replied, “That’s where all her nutrients are. She needs the nutrients and the water.”
To which the substitute replied, “But she’s so fat. She doesn’t need it.”
Thin privilege is a small, pretty baby getting better childcare because the caretaker doesn’t think she’s too fat to be allowed to eat.

All my SWTOR writing and research is in one giant, unwieldy Scrivener project and this kind of thing has saved my bacon so many times. I skip over things I’m not sure about yet and quickly make notes for ideas I get while I’m writing other things so as not to disrupt the flow. I set them off <like so> so they stand out and are easier to search for later.
Quick Writing Tip: Make a Note to Your Future Self in Your WIP
This one saves me on the regular. When you’re done with your writing session, make a note to yourself in your document about what you were working on and what you intend to do the next time you open your WIP. It helps if you make this note right at the spot you were working on, and another reminder at the top of the document. I like to change the font color and increase the size so I see it right away the next time I open my document.
You might not always go back to what you were working on before. But this trick can save you a lot of time reading through your WIP and trying to remember where you were going. Plus it can keep your WIP from becoming a giant mess of half-started ideas and editing tweaks.
Some examples of recent notes I’ve made to myself in my WIP:
“…working on adding more detail to the dormitory scene. Two more paragraphs to go… left off HERE.”
“…got confused about the layout of the house and stopped to make a map. Refer to map and finish editing this scene.”
“…changing scene from past to present tense… left off HERE”
“…finish writing the breakfast scene”
At the very least, making a note to yourself will give you a clear direction the next time you approach your WIP. If you choose not to follow it, that’s fine, but it’s nice to have the option, and it only takes a few seconds to jot down a reminder to yourself.

I was (and still am) SO BITTER that my first Biology professor did a special segue on the topic, complete with shoutout to me, when we covered that area in class. You best believe I asked about it beforehand.
Reblog if you ARE a woman in STEM, SUPPORT women in STEM, or ARE STILL BITTER about Rosalind Franklin not getting credit for discovering the structure of DNA and the Nobel prize going to Watson and Crick instead.

Building in the courts and halls of Canadian government for years, conflict over the mammoth Trans Mountain tar- sands oil-pipeline expansion is expected to spill into the streets of British Columbia Saturday with massive civil disobedience demonstrations.
Indigenous leaders from along the pipeline route and the U.S. are expected to join a march and rally beginning Saturday in metro Vancouver. Nearly 7,000 Coast Salish Water Protectors — as the pipeline opponents call themselves — have signed up to participate, said Will George of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, spokesman for the Protect the Inlet movement.
“We cannot stand by anymore,” George said. “It is going to be like Standing Rock,” where thousands of so-called water protectors stood against the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota in 2016.
“The similarity is we are standing up to protect our water. And we are going to do this in a peaceful way,” George said. “ It is going to mark a day in history; it will be a massive mobilization.”

Have you been in fandom for a long time? Help us out with our research!
Have you been part of fandom for at least ten years (even non-consecutively)?
We’re Casey Fiesler and Brianna Dym, longtime fan community members, and also researchers in the Department of Information Science at University of Colorado Boulder. We’re conducting a survey about how fan communities migrate across platforms! So if you’ve used multiple platforms in that time (Livejournal, Tumblr, AO3, Usenet…), we would love to have you participate!
The survey is a mix of multiple choice and open answer, and you can answer as much or as little as you like. The survey should take on average about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. (There will be more questions depending on how many platforms you’ve used, though you can skip through questions if necessary.)
We will ask for some demographics (any of which you can skip) so that we can describe how fan communities are different from other communities, but won’t require any identifying information – unless you would like to give us your email address so we can inform you about the results of the study.
Whether you participate or not, please consider sharing this survey with your social networks!  And if you’d like to find out more about Casey’s previous research about fandom, see this Tumblr post: http://cfiesler.tumblr.com/post/139029976190/an-archive-of-their-own-a-case-study-of-feminist
Click here to take the survey! And please reblog!
If you have any questions at all, please contact Casey at [email protected].

every ot3 has these very important roles:
person a, who runs headlong into crazy bullshit
person b, who acts like they’re too sensible to run headlong into crazy bullshit, but is really just as bad as person a
person c, who actually tries to avoid running headlong into crazy bullshit, but keeps getting dragged into it by the other two anyway

So I found this app called Scan Halal where you scan the bar code of your food and it tells you if its halal or not. It’s a free app too. Pass this on so others can see and worry a little less about their food/snack choices

I absolutely love that “holy shit, it all makes sense now!!!” feeling.
When your character tells you a thing and you, the author, are like, “No, you’re shitting me,” and the character’s all, “I absolutely am not,” and you realize that every single seed needed to grow that thing WAS ALREADY PLANTED IN THE STORY.

Dear Tumblr users who I don’t know in real life,
I really like seeing your personal posts, even the whiny angsty ones, and particularly the strange boring ones. I like these little windows into your lives even if I’ve never seen pictures of you and all I really know is that we like a few of the same tv shows. Please continue to let me read your to do lists and your conversations with strange relatives.
Thank you,
Stranger from the internet.
