i think love can be about the grand gestures like kissing in the rain and perfectly planned proposals but i also think it’s about smaller things, like wishing you’d known someone at thirteen or spending hours messing around and making them laugh at the cheesecake factory, or spending your best halloween ever with them, or feeling like you could write a thesis on why everyone should be in love with them, or feeling so strongly about them that you could talk about your connection for days and weeks and months and years, but being too shy to do so because it’s raw and personal and yours. it’s about knowing you’ll love someone when you meet them and being protective of them in small ways.

“Humans in love are terrible. You see them hungering at one another like prehistoric wolves, you see something struggling for life in between them like a root or a soul and it flares for a moment, then they smash it. The difference between them smashes the bones out. So delicate the bones.”
— Anne Carson, The Anthropology of Water
