Zzz. (the mc twins)

            they’ve been running around all day . . . fighting monsters  ,  foraging  ,  traveling  ,  seeing the sights  .  even if it was all done in leisure  ,  it was tiring  .  it took some time to find a good camping space and starting a fire  ,  they had gotten lucky and found food earlier so all that was left is to cook it for a meal  .  that is  ,  if lumine could keep her eyes open  .             leaning against aether while her brother tended to the fire  ,  she hears him ask her a question  ,  not quite processing what was said so all she does is grumble incoherently in response  ,  protesting when her brother shifts  .

“Aha.” A nervous laugh accompanied by the slight tilt of his head. “My apologies, Tsaritsa. Force of habit.” He swats away the cold snow clinging to his knee from his kneeling. The chill may not bother him so much, but the feeling of wet clothing against his skin sure does. It has been too long since he last saw her and oh how he missed her dearly, though the knowledge that he carries out her will soothes the pangs of homesickness. Truly their meeting this cold night is a blessing.

There’s a smile and a nod. “Indeed. I may not have the time today to go ice fishing, but there was plenty of time for me to meditate here. As for your question…” Childe crosses his arms as he shifts his weight onto one foot, head tilted to ponder once again. “Hmm… I think the conclusion I’ve come to is satisfactory.”

Releasing his stance, the Harbinger shines brightly at his Tsaritsa once again. Her laughter is like a melody to his ears and he feels honoured to be the one who causes her such a reaction. Sure, both of them are warriors in their own right but that doesn’t mean they can’t share a tender moment together in the frigid snow.        Though it will never last, it will become a memory to be treasured.

“Sounds good to me.” Though this… “test” may not be the battle Childe so desires, it is simply a practice run of what lies in his future. The snow is the Cryo Archon’s domain and his Vision puts him at a disadvantage should he choose to utilise it in order to pull ahead. Overcoming this disadvantage now during a time of play will serve him well in future.

So he throws his snowball at her and runs, laughter escaping amongst the falling snow.

            “  well  ,  i am pleased to hear that you’ve reached a satisfactory conclusion  ,  ”  she responds  ,  “  should require a quiet space to think in the future  ,  i offer you the garden pavilion . . . it has a wonderful view and people rarely visit  ,  ”  tsaritsa said  ,  it was a place she goes to often to be by herself  .  it was far away from people and it was a place she discovered long before she became an archon  .  her sanctuary  .  “  no one will bother you there  ,  ”  she promises  .  she understands the need to find a place and think  .             his laughter is contagious  ,  a cheeky boy  .  this is what she loves about him  .  he keeps drawing her in with his charming personality and light words  .  a ray of sun in this frigid area  ,  she watches as he darts ahead  .  ducking the snowball he had thrown  ,  her hands  (  lacking gloves . . . the cold never bothered her  ,  she grew up in it  ,  her body mimicked the coldness of the land she resided in  )  reach into the ground  ,  making a well in the fresh snow  ;  she forms a ball herself  ,  she must not cheat  ,  that would be unfair of her  .  she could easily conjure up obstacles  ,  but she was not here to test childe  .       ��     with slow and measured steps  ,  she trails behind the male . . . throwing the ball she had formed at his running figure  .  “  do not think that having a headstart means that you have the upper hand  ,  my child  ,  ”  she calls  ,  she knows he can hear her  ,  even if feels as if the wind swallowed her words  .  reaching to make another ball  ,  she doesn’t give him a moment of respite nor time to retaliate as she throws another  .             she makes a note to ask the staff to prepare warm drinks and perhaps a bath with a new set of clothes for the harbinger . . . he’s surely going to be freezing when this ends  .  she cannot leave her treasured child like that  .

      The  Yaksha  listens  to  her  woes  and  regrets;  he  is  not  a  god  of  charity  nor  wishes,  so  he  has  no  idea  why  she  speaks  to  him  as  if  he  can  fix  it.  Amber  eyes  narrow,  his  arms  crossing  his  chest,  as  harsh  as  it  seems  —  Xiao  scoffs  at  her  words.  It  is  soft;  however,  the  way  he  speaks  to  her,  there  is  a  gentleness  of  lowering  his  voice  —  while  his  tone  is  still  a  sharpened  blade.    

      ❝  Traveler,  no  one  shall  reach  perfection.  ❞  But  what  has  this  mortal  gone  through  to  speak  of  such  things ??  It  casts  upon  a  sense  of  urgency  in  his  heart,  and  Xiao  takes  a  step  forward  towards  her.  ❝  What  you  do  with  this  future  shall  define  your  next  path.  ❞  There  is  a  sense  of  familiarity  in  the  ache  that  resides  deep  inside  his  soul;  he  understands  well  how  the  past  is  a  distressing  reminder. 

            lumine spares xiao a glance  ,  though his tone sounds harsh  ,  the words he spoke is reminiscent of comfort  .  “  of course . . . perfection is hard to achieve  ,  after all . . .  ”  she muses softly  , eyes returning to stare at the horizon  .  “  what i do with this future . . .  ”  she repeats  ,  she doesn’t even know where she’s headed and what to expect  ,  what she’s going to be doing  .  everything is in a muddle of uncertainty . . . all she has clearly in her mind . . . is that she needs to find AETHER and figure out who that goddess is  .             “  but how do i know . . . that i’m doing it right . . . that i’m on the right path  ,  ”  she stresses  ,  she’s been led on a variety of paths and all were inconclusive and her motivation is faltering  .  her will flickering  .  perhaps she’s a bit tired and a bit lonely . . . would anyone understand her desperation  ??  to know she’s going on the right path  ,  doing the right thing . . . what if she does the wrong thing and lose everything in the process  ??

     That was– Zhongli looks at the items in her hands with a curious gaze. Both small things of little consequence. Easily lost, easily forgotten, and easily forsaken by others. Most would have simply ignored them. Who has the time to search for the owner of such meaningless trinkets?. They have little visible value, unlikely to catch the eye of most passersby. 

     The items are indeed lost and they do have an owner to whom they belong. One that would likely miss them once their absence was noted. How interesting it was that their paths aligned so perfectly. To be certain, Zhongli checks the contents of his smaller satchel. It takes mere seconds to confirm that these do indeed belong to him. Astonishing.

     There’s something of a smile on Zhongli’s face as he reaches a hand out to take the small trinkets. The first is a pen, simple and unremarkable aside from it’s short length. The second is nothing more than an empty notebook and the third a bookmark. ❛ My most sincere apologies, madam, for unintentionally taking up your time. It seems as though you’ve found something of mine. ❜ 

     Zhongli wonders what it is about her that is so.. perplexing. It feels as if he should know her from somewhere and yet.. that face is impossible to place. Even this encounter feels as though it’s played out before somewhere in the back of his mind. The feeling won’t recede, but thinking over it a bit more, he recognizes the phenomenon for what it is. He believes there’s a phrase in Fontaine meaning ‘never seen.’  It’s his first time experiencing the sensation. So, the world has new things in store for him, after all.

     ❛ May I have your name ? ❜ Maybe if he can associate the face with a word, Zhongli will have better luck retaining her features. It’s worth a try, at least.

            she’s always had this odd knack of finding the owners of lost objects . . . sometimes  ,  her feet just guides her towards the owners  ;  other times  ,  it took a bit of inquiry  .  as fate would have it  ,  instead of her finding the owner . . . the owner found her  .  relinquishing these objects to the male  ,  “  it is of no issue  ,  i was headed in this direction and found it along the way  ,  ”  rene replies  .  it’s never a hassle for her to do this  ,  it’s not as if she has more important things to do  .  she’s just a wanderer  ,  roaming wherever she pleased  .             when asked for her name  ,  she hesitates  .  it is not that she won’t give her name  ,  there’s no reason she wouldn’t and there’s no reason why she shouldn’t . . . it’s not an odd request  .  it’s just that she’s discovered in the past centuries  ,  even if she left her name or left an object of her own  ,  people could never recall who she is . . . at most  ,  all she got was  ‘  you look familiar  ’  .             “  my name is rene chevalier  ,  good sir  ,  ”  she bows her head  ,  a force of habit that she never corrected  .  of course  ,  it has been somewhat corrected . . . previously  ,  she was used to saluting and bowing much deeper  ,  but since she was no longer a knight . . . she found that it was just too over the top with such a greeting  .

Zhongli froze, not expecting someone to so boldly ask the question that he had hesitated to even ask himself. Those three words, simple as they seemed, held a tremendous power that could bring even gods to their knees. He could raise as many walls as he wished, shattering the earth in his efforts to keep the hideous truth hidden from view, and that question would still pierce through each and every one. Then, once the thick, choking dust finally settled atop the crumbling remains, the despised eyesore would be laid bare: he was not alright. Underneath the soothing balm of denial, a worrisome wound festered, a wound that grew more resistant to perjury’s placebo each day. Soon enough, he would have no choice but to offer it real medicine, no matter how bitter it was to the taste.

“I appreciate your concern,” Zhongli said, his speech almost halting as he chose his words carefully. “Giving up the gnosis has been an…interesting…experience, and not without its unexpected effects. But perhaps it would be better if we discussed this over a meal. Was there any place in particular that you wanted to go? I could make some suggestions.”

As he spoke, he paid little mind to the nearly empty coin purse tucked inside of his coat. The funeral parlor had been doing him the great service of covering many of his expenses, and so it had not yet become second nature to take his financial standing into account before making plans. There would eventually come a day where he would have to learn this lesson the hard way, but it would certainly not be today.

            lumine was ready to get stonewalled . . . to be stopped and placed at a distance  ,  she knows how hard it is to open up and be vulnerable to someone else  (  more so to someone you’ve only just met  )  ,  she knows because she has the same difficulty  .  even with those that helped her back in mondstadt and with paimon  ,  she was still have trouble letting out the things she’s shut off into her mind  .             a small smile comes to her lips at zhongli’s words  ,  an admission that things are difficult is a start . . . quick to accept the offer  ,  if they were to talk  ,  then a comfortable space would be  much better  .  “  i am open to suggestions  ,  mister zhongli  ,  ”  lumine replies  ,  waving towards the door as if to ask the elder to guide them  .  she’s not expecting that the other would remember to bring his coin purchase  ,  not that she was expecting him to pay . . . she was dragging this man out of the office for a meal  ,  the least she could do was treat him  .  it seems like he could use the fresh air and some food  (  she won’t say that she’s spent a few days completing requests for mora so that she could do this  )  .             following zhongli down the streets  ,  walking alongside the male  ,  “  you mentioned unexpected effects . . . what did you mean  ??  ”  she asks  ,  curious to how he felt  .  venti didn’t divulge much when she asked about it  ,  she wonders . . . would they still be able to use their element  ??  what will happen to them now that their gnosis is no longer a part of them  ??  there were much she wanted to know . . . because what if  ,  that’s what happened to her and her brother  ??  but she doesn’t want to overwhelm the other with questions . . . she was here to offer support and comfort  ,  not to interrogate  .
