Jim Kirk is the human main character in a paranormal romance, like?? Oh he's the youngest captain in Starfleet, he's a sweet sunshine boy w an extremely tragic backstory, oh his first officer is an alien that is somehow the opposite of him but also they work together perfectly?? Captain Mary Sue here falls in love w the alien- son of the ambassador to earth, first successful vulcan-human hybrid, descended from both the #1 most important historical (religious???) figure in Vulcan history, and also the guy who made first contact w humans. Jim is the main character but his love interest is SPECIAL. Also in the middle uh. Turns out the aliens have a 7 year fuck or die mating season. In a weird twist of events Spock neither fucks nor dies...but he does wrestle Jim in the sacred sands which. Eh close enough.
Also turns out they have a fancy telepathic SOULMATE CONNECTION?! hello what is happening. And like? I'm not even going into the movies holy shit
It's very funny to me that James T. Kirk is canonically specified to be somewhere between very intelligent and genius level and yet Paul Wesley has chosen to imbue his performance with a persistent himbo energy
It's made even more funny because due to the context, when he's doing this, he's almost always doing it around Spock. Do you think it's flirting. Do you think he's pretending to know nothing so Chris Pike's hot thirtyish half-Vulcan science officer, to whom he feels an overpowering and all-consuming attraction, will explain it all to him
I think is very disrespectful for new Star Trek writers to try to make Spock look straight when all the original writers, actors and fans agreed that that was a very gay man in love with his captain
