I want to write a book called âyour character dies in the woodsâ that details all the pitfalls and dangers of being out on the road & in the wild for people without outdoors/wilderness experience bc I cannot keep reading narratives brush over life threatening conditions like nothing is happening.
I just read a book by one of my favorite authors whose plots are essentially airtight, but the MC was walking on a country road on a cold winter night and she was knocked down and fell into a drainage ditch covered in ice, broke through and got covered in icy mud and water.
Then she had a âmiserableâ 3 more miles to walk to the inn.
Babes she would not MAKE it to that inn.

Yay!! Fic I wrote đ for the Jason-Centric Exchange Event
Title: Case of the Crime Alley Fires
Words: 9k
Fandom: Batman - All Media Types
Characters: Jason Todd & Crime Alley Residents. (With some small Jason & Dick, Jason & Steph, Jason & Tim, and Jason &Babs)
Tags of importance: Case fic, Some slightly graphic injuries, Fires, Arson, Jason is Red Hood and a Crime Boss
Summary: Gotham has fires often thanks to Firefly and other rogues, but they aren't as common in Crime Alley.
When Crime Alley starts regularly setting fires, it sets Jason on edge and he starts investigating. Can he find out what or who is starting these before it's too late?
Or
An arsonist is running around Crime Alley, setting fires, and Jason is trying to track them down.

You know what? I believe that you can finish your writing project. I believe you can update your fic. I believe you can work on your WIP. I don't care if you think it's cringy or bad. I don't care if we've never met or interacted in our whole lives. I believe in you. Keep going - you've got this.

I just reada really good fic but halfway through I realized "oh shit this is really familiar.... didn't I write something like this once?" And as I kept reading I kept predicting what happened next and the further I went the more convinced I was that they'd ripped off my story-
like, copied the ENTIRE plot and re-written it, just better than I had? The characters were more fleshed-out than mine were, and the POV was more interesting, and the pace made more sense- but it was MY STORY?
So close to the end I was like "holy shit.. do I message them? Ask if my story inspired theirs? Should I be angry? Flattered?" Cause their tags and description didn't mention me AT ALL, which, sure, it's fanfiction to begin with, but if you're using my work than at least credit me as inspo, right? Just to be courteous?
But I get to the end of the final chapter, and it's not finished, and I'm kind of disappointed cause I never finished my story and I was really immersed in their version now and had been looking forwards to seeing how they tied up my loose ends- so I scroll to the bottom to leave a comment, and.
It's MY URL.
IT WAS MY STORY THE WHOLE TIME.
THE ONE *I WROTE*.
In *2013*.
And FORGOT ABOUT
BECAUSE I WAS SO INSECURE ABOUT MY SLOPPY, SHALLOW, AMETEUR WRITING
And I'm just sitting here now staring into space thinking about every shitty story I've ever written now like
IT WAS ALL GOOD?
IT WAS GOOD THIS WHOLE DAMN TIME??
I'M A GOOD WRITER?????

Bruce: Following a trail of blood
Jason: Dragging a body
Bruce: "Jason....what are you doing?"
Jason: "Ok, so, there's this thing called color theory-"
Bruce: "Jason-"
Jason: "You know, red actually has a lot of positive meanings. My helmet, for example, represents love"

*white knuckling the bathroom sink* do NOT infodump ppl about the fact that the first spn fic was a wincest one and that it was posted mere hours after the pilot and that the founder of ao3 was a wincestie and that the first fic on ao3 was wincest too and that the omegaverse as we know it was created by wincest shippers for jared/jensen fics *pointing at myself in the mirror with a shaky hand* ppl will think you're weird and off-putting you need to control yourselfâ

Nothing beats the feeling when you start getting comments on every fic in a fandom or ship from one person, and itâs clear that theyâre going on a fic-binge.Â
#this is how i got most of my writer friends#''I like this. I will now read everything you have to offer and then leave insane comments on everythingâ#but yes#writers love this

its so funny that I keep seeing these two posts about writing paragraph breaks where one is like "stop being afraid of new paragraphs!! here's a long list of places where you should start a new paragraph!!" and the other is like "holy shit stop making so many paragraphs, i swear there don't actually have to be so many, stop being afraid of long paragraphs they read much better than a new paragraph every other sentence!!"
and the thing is.
theyre both right

I got tagged by @bluelotuswrites in the WIP share ask game :D thanks for tagging me lol
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
1. With Time (chapter 2)
2. Died Revived Thrived (rewritten)
3. Jason gets arrested
4. Supernatural AU
5. DBH but Batfam
6. Monster Hunting with your big bro (Supernatural AU but the TV show)
7. The Deamon and the Dragon
8. Shifter AU
Clearly I don't name things. Who knows, maybe this will make me start working on my projects again.

Whole-heartedly BEGGING writers to unlearn everything schools taught you about how long a paragraph is. If theres a new subject, INCLUDING ACTIONS, theres a new paragraph. A paragraph can be a single word too btw stop making things unreadable

reasons to write fanfiction (I'll start):
share a cool scene that popped into your head
evoke a particular emotion the canon makes you feel
song made you think of a character or idea from canon
make people feel the same way about a character you do
make dolls kiss for fun
explore ideas the canon hints at but doesn't do anything with
traumatize characters and make them suffer
coddle characters and let them rest
had an insane idea for a crack ship and now everyone needs to know
the author of the canon was wrong and must be fixed
use familiar characters to explore your own ideas and plotlines
canon is too short and you need to wallow in the universe of the story

i truly think there is nothing more disheartening and heartbreaking than to read the most amazing fic that you can clearly see that the author has written out of sheer love and enjoyment for the characters and story only to read their authors note and very clearly see that theyâve been harassed by people asking for more or critiquing what there is. it absolutely makes me so sad to see the author clearly loved the project and then had the enjoyment sapped out of them by people demanding something from them or just being assholes. turning something that was created simply for the love of it into something that causes the creator misery has got to be a layer of hell
the day people can interact and enjoy fandom in a way that is respectful and uplifting to the creators and community will be the day the world knows peace :/
#reminder to show creators some love#so many of them i know work so hard and love what they make#if someone doesnt ask for critique please dont give it. talk about what you like instead#and if you want something to (possibly) update leave a comment or draw some art or send an ask on their tumblr talking about what you#love about that fic and maybe even what youre excited to see what happens next. it can even just be some emojis

Y'all should go give her some prompts :D (and check out her other works, they're great!!)
My first-ever Whumptober asks are officially open!!!
Fandoms: DC, largely Batman/the Bat Family, and Marvel.
Dos: Any good angst your imagination can cook up, including comfort!!! Deep in the throes of depression? Arenât we all!!! A good old-fashioned kidnapping? Say no more!!! Panic attacks galore, cold winter abandonment, or the most pitiful of sick fics your imagination can cook up!!! Do try to be creative; I need practice writing situations I wouldnât have thought to explore on my own. (Comfort, even just a smidge, will most likely always be included. I am terrible at writing sad endings.)
Donâts: Slash, Bad Batdad, and most importantly, underage ANYTHING.
I donât have a word count set yet⌠Iâve never tried this before!!! but most oneshots in the Whumptober collection will likely end up between one/two-thousand words. Yâknow, for the sake of writing daily. You can find me on AO3 under the same handle, Lulu_Rhythm.
Let the ideas COMMENCE!!!
