New York NY - The City That Never Sleeps
Located where the Hudson River meets the Atlantic Ocean, New York is one of the world's largest cities. It is home to the Empire State Building and sprawling Central Park, among other iconic sites.
Yellow cabs
Getting around New York City can be a breeze, especially with yellow taxis. These vehicles can get you anywhere in the five boroughs. You can get a ride by street hailing or calling in advance. They are the only vehicles with the right to pick up passengers in New York City.
Yellow cabs are a staple of New York City's private car transportation industry. Before the pandemic, 10,500 of these vehicles were in the streets on a daily basis. But the number has since dropped to just 13,587.
While yellow cabs have been around for many years, the industry has been faced with headwinds due to the rise of ride-hailing apps. However, they still make up 80 percent of all taxi medallions issued by the city.
Skyscrapers
Almost everyone knows about New York City's iconic skyline. The city has over 6,000 high rise buildings. These buildings make New York a prime location for luxury buildings.
The Empire State Building is one of the most iconic buildings in the world. This 102-story building is located in Midtown Manhattan. It is one of the tallest buildings in the western world.
The New York Times building is a 52-story glass and steel Midtown office tower. It is the eighth tallest structure in the city. This building has garnered positive feedback for its natural lighting and sustainability features. The building was designed by "starchitect" Renzo Piano.
The Bank of America Tower is also located in Midtown. It is 58 stories high and located between 42nd and 43rd Streets. This building has over 2 million square feet of office space. The building has achieved Platinum LEED Certification.
Famous districts
Known as the melting pot of the world, New York has many famous districts. It is home to some of the world's largest cultural centers, as well as the largest commercial centers.
The Upper East Side, for instance, is a quaint district that is known for its stately buildings and wide avenues. It is packed with museums, and offers a wide range of restaurants. It is a great place to visit, particularly at weekends.
The Flatiron District is an old part of Manhattan, and it has transformed into a hip art district. It is home to the Flatiron Building, an iconic triangular-shaped skyscraper. It is also home to several chic restaurants, as well as many galleries.
Cigar smoking in public places
Despite the fact that smoking is not commonplace in New York, there are some restrictions on where you can smoke in the state.
First, the Clean Indoor Air Act of 2003 bans smoking in indoor public spaces. That includes hospitals, malls, and museums. In addition, a local excise tax of $1.50 per pack of cigarettes is a bit on the low side.
Second, the New York City smoking ban covers much more than just public beaches and parks. For example, smoking is prohibited in marinas and recreational centers.
Finally, smoking is banned in sidewalks adjacent to parks. The law also prohibits smoking in playgrounds, except when there are children present. It is also prohibited in parks within residential property lines.
Infrastructural improvements
'The City That Never Sleeps', New York, NY has a complex ground transportation system, and infrastructure improvements are needed to sustain the growth of the city. It is estimated that deteriorating roads, airports, and school buildings represent some of the city's biggest vulnerabilities.
The American Society of Civil Engineers scored NYC infrastructure at mediocre or below in 11 categories. New York State and City officials will likely need to reassess intrastate infrastructure in the near future.
One of the major vulnerabilities of New York State is its aging water infrastructure. Many predominantly rural areas are underserved. New York State utilities are among the oldest in the nation.
Michael Jordan
Having Michael Jordan in New York would have changed the balance of power in the NBA. The Knicks had not won a championship in twenty years.
The team added a great new shooter in James Borrego, who would later count up 13 points in the last quarter of an NBA Finals game. But, they also threw in a gimmick, a reserve point guard with a chip on his shoulder.
The Knicks also had an intrepid CEO in the form of Dave Checketts, who was at least as smart as the player he served. The New York Knicks are among the most legendary franchises in the NBA.
Locksmith
Whether you are moving into a new home, or simply need to change your lock, a locksmith midtown Manhattan can help. Locksmiths are professionals who are trained in the installation, repair, and adjustment of all types of locks. They also offer a wide range of services, such as high-security lock systems, intercom systems, and key control systems.
Locksmith Manhattan can also help you move into a new home or office. They can also install keyless access control systems, security gates, and fingerprint locks. They can also create new keys or remotes for your existing system.

Great Parks near Midtown New York, NY
New York City is famous for its parks, but some of the best ones are found in Midtown, NY. Madison Square Park is a popular spot for enjoying a picnic on a sunny day, and Bryant Park has plenty of places to sit down and relax with friends or coworkers.
Hell's Kitchen Park
The name Hell’s Kitchen was apparently first given to the block on West 39th Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues by local police in the 1870s, and it later was expanded to include much of the West Side. Legend has it that one rookie cop commented to his more seasoned partner, “This place is hell itself.” “Hell’s a mild climate,” his partner replied. “This is hell’s kitchen.”
In 2005, the park was reconstructed in a project that included new play equipment, swings, safety surfacing, lighting, and decorative paving. Continued improvements to the park and the community’s continued activism on its behalf ensure that Hell’s Kitchen Park will remain a safe, enjoyable space for all.
Richard Tucker Park
Located in a small park triangle known formerly as Empire Park North and adjacent to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, this bronze portrait bust by Milton Hebald (1917–2015) depicts opera star Richard Tucker Park in Lincoln Square NY. The bust sits on an inverted, tapered and polished granite pedestal on which are inscribed the titles of 31 operas that Tucker performed.
Tucker was born in Brooklyn in 1913, and he worked as a cantor before making his debut with New York’s Metropolitan Opera in 1945. Tucker enjoyed a thirty-year career with the organization, specializing in Italian operatic works. The monument was a gift of Tucker’s wife, Sarah, and was unveiled in 1979. A similar bust was unveiled in Tel Aviv, Israel that same year.
Madison Square Park
Madison Square Park is a public space that is free to visit, and it regularly hosts events like concerts, street fairs, and more. If you're looking for some good old-fashioned fun under the sun (or stars), Madison Square Park is the place to be!
The park itself is 6 acres large—just enough space for you to feel like you're getting away from it all without finding yourself lost in an unfamiliar city. It has plenty of amenities as well: basketball courts, tennis courts, handball courts and even an ice skating rink during winter months.
If you're looking for more activities than just lounging around in a public space, make sure to check out these nearby attractions: Madame Tussauds Wax Museum; Empire State Building Observatory; Times Square; Broadway theaters; Rockefeller Center office buildings; Fifth Avenue shopping district
Bryant Park
Bryant Park is one of the most popular parks in New York City, and with good reason. Bryant Park has an urban oasis feel to it, and there are a number of ways that you can enjoy this park.
Enjoying a picnic lunch in Bryant Park with your loved ones is a great way to spend some time together on the weekends during summertime. There’s plenty of grassy areas for kids to run around, but it’s also big enough so that you won't be on top of each other if you're not into being social when at the park.
Walking through Bryant Park is another way for you and your family members to spend some quality time together without having to worry about getting stuck inside during summer because of rain or other weather conditions. You can explore all different parts of Bryant Park while walking through, so it's never boring!
Jogging through this beautiful green space helps burn calories while improving cardiovascular health—which means we'll have better circulation throughout our bodies! This makes us feel better overall too!

Literary Hotspots in New York City
This article will examine five literary hotspots located in New York City, which have inspired many authors and everyday readers of the wonderful world of literature. It is a well-known landmark for tourists to New York. Even planning a vacation around literature is possible.
These hotspots allow you to truly experience New York City's literature. You will find something for everyone, no matter if you are looking to write in a park, visit The New York Public Library or go to a pub.
Manhattan's strand bookstore, located at the corner of Broadway and 12th Street, occupies 55,000 square feet. It has 18 miles of books. This rich resource of literacy contains everything you need, including current authors and rare books. You can rent or buy all the books and collectibles they have. Strand bookstore started special author events a few years ago, and they have seen tremendous growth.
Brooklyn, Manhattan must be included in any literary tour. It is rated as the most important location for literary history. I recommend New York's subway system to get from your current location to explore the fascinating neighborhood. It is possible to plan your vacation or visit around the Brooklyn Book Festival, which is held every year at Borough Hall in Brooklyn.
The festival brings together renowned authors from around the globe to fill the auditoriums. Bookstores such as the Greenlight Bookstore or Powerhouse Books host events. Other events are held at cultural venues such as the Littlefield Club and St. Ann's Warehouse, which all have Brooklyn locations. The best of Brooklyn's literary culture is only explored.
If a writer wants to write, the New York Public Library can provide the best day of his entire life. The communal tables provide peace and tranquility, as well as computers and full silence.
Bryant Park is named after William Bryant who was one of the most influential writers in New York. It is a top-rated literary spot in New York. It is located adjacent to the New York Public Library, making it an ideal location to borrow a book or relax in the historic park.
There is no better way to finish your day than by visiting a village pub and perhaps sitting in the chair that a famous author used. Most New York pubs can claim to have had great literary figures at their bar stools. It is a tradition that literary tourists visit at least some of these pubs, as many great writers found inspiration there.
While New York life can be costly, it is worth the effort to visit literary hotspots such as the ones listed above. Next time you walk through New York, you'll find many people reading, writing, and even sketching on a napkin. These literary hotspots are great places for people to enjoy literature in a wide variety of settings without worrying about the illiterate.

9 Things You Need to Know About New York Before You Visit
Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to New York on holiday. This is what I found. New York City is complicated. It is important to know some facts about New York City in order to fully appreciate this amazing city. These are nine facts that I believe everyone who plans to visit New York should know.
1. New York City is the "Big Apple". But how come? But where did this phrase come from? John Fitzgerald, a newspaper editor, first used the phrase. His column was called Around the Big Apple. The term "Big Apple" was first used by Black stable boys to describe New York City as a place of financial abundance and opportunity.
2. New York's transportation system is the oldest and most comprehensive in North America. New York City is home to over 12,000 yellow taxis, 120,000 bikes, a large subway system, bus and railway systems, large airports. There are also massive bridges and tunnels. Ferries and an aerial commuter tramway (think of an enormous cable car).
3. New York hosted the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. The US Ice Hockey team was comprised of amateur and collegiate players. They were to face the Soviet Union team which boasted legendary players in world hockey. The New York Times stated that "Unless the ice melts or unless the United States or another team performs miracles...the Russians will win the Olympic gold medal for sixth time in seven tournaments." The USA won the gold medal and continued to win it. This was the "Miracle on Ice" moment in sports history.
4. New York State is most well-known for its urban landscape. The majority of New York State's land is made up of farmland, forests and rivers. There are over 12,000 acres undeveloped land in New York City and 26,000 acres parkland. New York City is home to many natural resources, including rivers, estuaries and beaches, as well as forests, grasslands and sand dunes, ponds and lakes. These natural habitats provide vital ecological services to the city, including clean air and water, absorption of pollutants, cooling summer days and improving the public's health and well-being.
5. In the 19th century, the Erie Canal was constructed. It was an important step towards the establishment of the international trading hub, New York City. It was an amazing feat of engineering and was often called the Eighth Wonder of the World. To keep up with the increased trade, the Erie Canal was expanded several times. The canal was 12 to 14 feet deep, 120-200 feet wide, and 363 mile long. The Erie Canal is mostly used today for recreational purposes.
6. Who was the one who coined the term 'New York' Giovanni da Verrazzano from Italy explored the land and named it New Angouleme after Francois I, the French king. The Dutch then claimed the land and named it New Netherlands. Finally, the Duke and Duchess of York of England purchased Long Island and took control of the rest of Long Island by brute force using an army. It was a shock that the Duke of York named the land New York.
7. New York was the first state that issued license plates for automobiles. Although they were first introduced in 1901, the government didn't issue the plates today. They required that the owners make their plates. The plates did not have numbers from 1901 to 1902 - they only had the initials of their owners. The state of New York issued license plates only in 1910.
8. Since 1931, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is being put up each year. It all began in 1931 when Rockefeller Center workers decorated a small balsam-fir tree with cranberries and paper. The Rockefeller Tree, which is typically a Norway Spruce, has a life expectancy of 80 to 110 year and grows one foot per year. To be eligible for the Rockefeller Center, the tree must measure at least 65 feet in height and 35 feet in width. The tree is often mulched after the season ends and donated to charities. A single tree can produce almost 3 tonnes of mulch.
9. From 1931 to 1972, the Empire State Building was world's tallest structure. The World Trade Center, which was the tallest building here, surpassed it. The Empire State Building, which was the tallest building in New York after the bombings of September 11, 2001, was officially announced. As an aside, Chicago's Sears Building is the world's tallest building. The Burj Dubai, which will be 1.5 times as tall as Sears, is expected to surpass this record.
That's it! These are the top nine facts I learned about New York during my trip. New York is known worldwide as a leader in finance, business, fashion, and the arts. This is only the "mask" of New York. This article is your first step in understanding this wonderful city.

Top Three Tourist Attractions in New York, NY
Statue of Liberty
America's most iconic sight, the Statue of Liberty is at the top of every first-time visitor's list of things to do in New York. It was France's gift to America. Built in 1886, it remains a world symbol of freedom and is one of the top attractions in America.
It is one of the world's largest statues, standing just under 152 feet tall from the base to the torch, and weighing approximately 450,000 pounds.
You can see the statue from land, with particularly good views from Battery Park, on the southern tip of Manhattan. However, to truly appreciate the Statue of Liberty, the best thing to do is to take a short boat trip to Liberty Island and see it up close. Take a pleasant stroll around the base, and if you have reservations, enter the pedestal. The crown remains closed as of writing.
On a tour to the Statue of Liberty, you have the option to stop at Ellis Island and explore the Immigration Museum. This fantastic museum is located in the historic immigration station complex, where thousands of immigrants were processed before entering the United States.
Displays focus on the process, the experiences, and the stories of the people who came through here on their journey to the United States. You can even search the on-site computer database to see a record of immigrants who came through here.
Tickets to go inside the statue sell out. Pre-purchasing tickets is a must during the high season and a good idea at any time of year. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Tour takes you to both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. This tour allows reserved access to board the ferry, and includes access to the Museum at Ellis Island.
Note: Buying tickets at the ferry can be tricky, with hawkers claiming to be "official representatives" trying to sell you more expensive tickets before you can find the ticket booth.
Rockefeller Center & Top of the Rock Observation Deck
When it comes to New York attractions, Rockefeller Center is on almost all tourist's itineraries. This vast entertainment and shopping complex in the middle of Manhattan is home to NBC-TV and other media, but the centerpiece is the 70-story 30 Rockefeller Plaza, an Art Deco skyscraper that offers awesome views over Manhattan from the famous Top of the Rock Observation Deck.
The "deck," as it's known, includes three floors, located on the 67th, 69th, and 70th floors. Indoor and outdoor viewing spaces offer spectacular views by day or night. You can buy a Top of the Rock Observation Deck Ticket in advance. These tickets come with a flexible voucher redemption policy, so you can change the date if your plans change or the weather doesn't cooperate.
Skating on the outdoor skating rink at the base of the tower is one of the most popular things to do in winter in New York City and a fun activity for families and couples. The rink is typically open from October to April.
After Thanksgiving, a huge Christmas tree is erected in front of the skating rink, lighting up the complex for the holiday season. Many people visit New York in December just to see this site.
Another point of interest in this area is the famous bronze sculpture of Atlas in front of the International Building. It's a popular subject for photographers.
Broadway and the Theater District
Attending a Broadway show is one of the top things to do in New York City. Considered the pinnacle of American theater, this is the place to see the latest shows and the long-running classics.
Broadway usually refers simply to Broadway theater, which encompasses a large number of theater venues in the Theater District and along the street of Broadway. For the most popular shows, tickets should be purchased well in advance.
Shubert Alley is a famous pedestrian-only alley in the Theater District and home to two well-known playhouses: the Shubert on 221 West 44th Street and the Booth at 22 West 45th Street. Historically, aspiring actors would frequent Shubert Alley looking for opportunities to perform in a play sponsored by theater baron, Sam S. Shubert.
A Chorus Line played at The Shubert for a record 6,137 shows. The musical Oklahoma debuted in 1941 at the St. James playhouse just down the street. Other legendary places include Sardi's restaurant, where many famous actors met, and the Music Box Theater, where Irving Berlin staged The Music Box Revue in 1921.
