max: you got it, man. baby finally coming?

“You hurt her. I’ll have your head.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it, Nathan.”

He chuckled. “That does sound like Tom. You really love her?”

“I really do love her, mate.”

“Did he really mean it in this capacity?”

“He told me that if she moved on he wouldn’t want it to be with anyone else but me.” Max said shaking his head “You probably don’t believe me.”

“Of course I am.” Max said softly “I love her, Nathan, I promised Tom I would take care of her when he was gone, he asked me to do this.”

Nathan walked outside with max with his hands in his pocket not looking at the other man. “Are you at least good to her?” He asked figuring his inkling was right considering the way Max and Kelsey looked at each other all through dinner.

“I think that might be best. Even though you’re scared of them I think if he has any negative feelings towards this he won’t say it in front of me and then things will just get pent up inside.” 

“I want him to be honest with me, as much as it freaks me out he’ll probably have feelings about it and I couldn’t blame him a bit.”

“We might have to try it later.” She smiled. “So how do you wanna do this do you wanna have a man to man conversation alone with Nathan and me and Anya can be in the other room if needed or do it while we’re eating?” 

“We will for sure have to test out that theory.” he chuckled “I think after dinner I’ll go have a man to man talk in the backyard.”

“If we kiss each other with garlic breath, does it cancel out?”

“You know I think it just might.”

She tried what was on the spoon moaning quietly in happiness. “Baby, that’s amazing. Maybe a little more garlic, but you know me. I like things extra garlicky.”

“We do love our garlic in this house.” he chuckled as he crushed up a few more cloves of fresh garlic and minced them up putting them in. “Now I’m gonna let that sit for about half an hour and then you can help me make the garlic bread.” he said kissing her forehead

“He’s always been a sneak.” She smiled.

“He always has been, love that guy though.” Max chuckled as he put the sauce on the stove to heat it up and add the spices “Alright, try this.” he said using a little spoon to hand her some.

“Yes, sir.” She said, sitting on the opposite side of the island. “Knowing Nathan and Tom, I bet you anything. Tom told him the same thing like he did, Anya, and he’s just testing us to see how long we’ll hold it.”

“I swear if you’re right, Nathan’s such a sneak.” the man said as he started blending up the sauce

“Well than Spaghetti please.”

“You can be my sauce tester, my mum always tells me I put too much salt in it.” he chuckled walking into the kitchen

“You’re anxious, though I can tell.”

“I am anxious, yes but cooking will calm my nerves.”

“Want me to make Spaghetti?”

“I can do it, babe, you just sit down and rest.”

“Do you wanna switch it for tomorrow, Max? Or later in the week. ”

“No, love, better to do it sooner than right, yeah?” he asked after he hung up the call “What do you think we should make for dinner?”

“Well, can you guys come over for dinner so we can just rip this band aid off. Well, at least some of it.”

“When Nathan comes back, we’ll be over.” Anya smiled as Max swallowed hard, the lump in his throat making it feel like he couldn't breathe. “See you guys then.” he said with a smile

“Wait, really, you’re actually happy for us?”

“Of course I am, Tom told me he asked Max to take care of you and I knew what he meant.” the woman said “I was worried for nothing with her it’s just Nathan I’m worried about now.”
