HOW DID I NEVER MAKE THIS CONNECTION BEFORE
Tumblr media
screaming crying etc
ohhh................... oh my. it hasn't even occurred to me to look for bukowski connections to harry's house. this is catapulting me back into the deep deep depths of one of the things i love most about harry: his writing and how sad and tortured it is in the most layered ways.

i love when fic writers who have clearly never tried any kind of alcohol in their lives try to write someone drinking bc they're always like
"he ordered a tall glass of hard liquor. after three large glasses he was feeling tipsy" like babygirl i can't be sure but i think u just sent this man to the hospital

How exhausting does it have to be to come out again and again and again in front of thousands/millions of people without ever saying the actual words “I’m gay.”? Because that’s what Harry Styles does during every single one of his concerts and he also did it at Coachella…
It’s just sad - and so unfair to him - that some people still don’t get it, still don’t listen to him, still don’t see him and his actions for what they are, still don’t see the symbolism, still don’t read between the lines, still are blinded to the fact that he’s gay… let alone genderfluid/not cis… like… He’s screaming so loud…
What do these people want? The actual words “I’m gay.” out of his mouth? That’s ridiculous. After everything he has done, after he deliberately expressed that he doesn’t think he NEEDS to say it, that he thinks that he made it pretty clear what he is… and how he basically feels that nobody should be forced to say what their sexuality is because it’s nobody’s business, really…
I… I just don’t get it… Why are people so ignorant!? Is it really just homophobia? Deep rooted issues? Is it just because they see Harry Styles as a sexual human being that they want in their bed? Is it because the mere thought of him being not straight scares them because then they would be forced to accept that a lot of their assumptions of who Harry Styles is are based on “lies”/a narrative spun by a major record label that wasn’t allowing him the freedom to be himself; that their perception of the music industry and music artists and how everything in it works - is simply wrong?
What does Harry Styles still have to do for these people to accept that he’s neither straight nor cis? Should he do a big coming out video in which he explains why he never uttered the words “I’m gay.” before? Should he say it in a big exclusive interview?
Should he perhaps run around New York City’s Times Square with a megaphone shouting “I’m gay.” at busy New Yorkers that mutter for him to get out of their way and tourists who don’t care about him, pushing their way past him? Should he stand on The Great Wall of China and scream it until he gets arrested and deported? Should he yell it on Russia’s Red Square, chained to a tank until he gets forcefully removed and banned from entering the country ever again?
Do they want him to be an activist for gay rights only after he’s uttered the words “I’m gay”? I’m sorry but that is hypocritical. Are gay people’s rights to stay safe and out of harm’s way not applicable to “privileged”, closeted celebrities who might don’t want to risk job offers and opportunities?
Are they afraid that if they admit (even just to themselves) that Harry Styles is a closeted music artist (and actor) that it would mean that nobody is “safe” from homophobic slurs and attacks, from getting hate online and in person by random strangers, from getting discriminated against just for being who they are; that THEY wouldn’t ever be “safe” - because he’s not “safe”? Is that perhaps what it’s about - apart from “simply” homophobia? Their own need for a feeling/the illusion of safety being more important than the lived out truth by Harry Styles?
This man is painfully obviously gay and not cis - if you actually pay attention to him… People are willingly choosing to stay blind at this point or attempt to explain away more than a decade full of instances that Harry Styles showed that he’s part of the LGBT+ community… and that he’s proud to wave his flag - to appreciate and celebrate his own sexuality while thousands/millions of people are having their eyes on him…
Tumblr media
I just wish that more people would listen to him and see the same person that I do… because he’s beautiful and lovely…

So, you leave home one day.
You leave home to try out for this competition. It’s a singing competition and you think, well no one REALLY makes it on these things. There’s no way you’re going to be the one to get to the end, but you have to at least give it your best shot.
You leave home and you go to this singing competition and you meet someone there, right at the beginning. You meet him and you hit it off and you think, oh, he’s going to make it. He’s going to be famous.
But then suddenly you’re both on to the next round, and you’re TOGETHER. You’re in a group with a bunch of strangers but they seem alright, and the one seems to slot into the space around you seamlessly.
And suddenly you’re onto the next round, and the next and the next and suddenly you’re out of the competition and you lost, but you didn’t really because you’re touring and you’re putting out a single and they’re talking about albums, and—
And it’s years. It’s years of living in each other’s pockets; you and three guys and one guy who means everything to you. Years of singing and recording and performing and touring and living a life that no one but the five of you will ever understand, but really it’s a life that only you and one other will ever REALLY understand. It’s the five of you but it’s also really just the two of you.
And you SEE home, sometimes. You visit, you swing round between the performing and the recording and the promoting and the travel. You see what used to be your home, and then your gone again in a whirlwind. It’s years. It’s five years that contain more than decades. You go and go and go and go and run and fly and perform and scream and go and crawl exhausted back into your bed in the early hours before you’re back up and going and going and—-
And then it stops.
It’s sudden.
It’s like someone just flicked the light switch off.
And the silence is deafening.
You don’t remember being still for so long. No next-steps, no one telling you where to go and what’s happening.
It’s you and your person and a house that you bought at some point in the last five years. It’s barely been lived in, your own mark to place on it still packed up in boxes, things that you both packed up and thought, “we’ll deal with this someday.”
And that someday is here and now and everything is silent and slow and you suddenly find that everything is so much harder. Your relationship has been based around a life so busy and so rushed and so loud that you never had time to sit and think and learn and grow. You unpack the boxes and you unpack each other and things are so much HARDER this way. You unpack trauma and fear and in the middle of unpacking you both lose — people. Loved ones. Your silent life is compounded by grief and you don’t know that you ever learned how to live like this. You weren’t prepared for this part.
And things start to move again. Your person’s footsteps are more sure than yours, they start on their own path earlier. They bring you with them, of course, and you’re indescribably proud, even as you struggle to find YOUR next. What’s next? Why? You have houses that you share and you have thoughts that might be songs but your person’s already out there and beginning to succeed. The house is already a bit emptier when they come and go, and sometimes you follow and sometimes you don’t.
It’s not “before you know it” this time, when four years have passed. It’s four carefully picked-through years. There’s no whirlwind and there’s no rush, you’re going slow and steady this time and you’re watching every minute like a hawk. You’re struggling with your partner and you’re making it through each night by the skin of your teeth and by the fingers clasped together and by wet cheeks and tight grips but you’re making it. It’s four years and you’re finally able to put something out. Something special and something yours, all yours. You’re finally making it with plodding, sure steps. You know who you are and what you are and then—
Then the world shuts down.
It shuts down and you can see from the beginning that this won’t be a quick stopover. You’re back home and your partner is back home but it’s not the gloomy worrying quiet this time. You spent five years in the center of a hurricane and four years holding on so tight because you didn’t know how to survive the silence, and now there’s…
There’s you and there’s your spouse and there’s both of you. Standing up and side by side and weathering the storm together. The houses are filled and bright and loud in the comfortable way. You sing together and write together and have those hard conversations you spent so many sleepless nights afraid of. He’s on tour again and you’re right there, and you’re on tour now, FINALLY, taking those steps on your own onto the stage.
And he’s right there too.
Physically but also in your words, in your songs. Just like you are with him.
You left home.
You left home over a decade ago and never went back. But here, through struggle and heartache and darkness and silence and light and love, you found home.

“As the music ends and the lights of the theater turn on, it’s hard to not feel proud of Louis and all he’s achieved. As a teenager with an audition and a dream, he started off with a relatable vulnerability that led to an unexpected life-changing opportunity that he refuses to take for granted. Despite all the hardships he’s had to endure over the last several years, it’s clear to see that no matter what life throws at him, one thing’s for sure: Louis’ not backing down.”
— Hollywood Life about Louis first leg of the tour
