Movie Review: He’s Out There (2018)
He’s Out There follows a woman and her two daughters who drive out to the family’s lake house. During the night while waiting for her husband to arrive the woman and her two children start being terrorized by an unseen individual.
The film was well shot and for the most part has good acting. I find the acting of the older daughter to be a little annoying, but I don’t know if that was due to direction that she was given. At one point there is an overhead shot of the forest surrounding the house which gives a great indication of how isolated it is. I did have some personal issues with things that happen in the movie, but overall it was enjoyable to watch. As of this writing available to watch on Netflix.
One of the main problems with the movie is that it brings up many questions that are never really answered.
Spoilers Below
When the main character arrives at the gate to her home she meets a neighbor who had been driving down a road running along her property. The neighbor tells her about the family that lived in the home before and about their son who had gone missing and was never found. Later in the movie it is reveled that the family had been coming to the house for several years which raises the question of why she had never met the neighbor before or heard the story about the family who owned the home previously.
The man terrorizing the home also tells the children he has been watching them for years, but it is never revealed why this visit is when he chose to attack.
There were a couple parts of the movie that annoyed me, the first of which being the girls taking the cupcakes they find in the woods. While I understand that they are children I still found it hard to believe they weren’t old enough to understand they shouldn’t eat strange food they don’t know where it came from.
I also felt some of the decisions made by the main character were a bit dumb like leaving her cell phone in the car and not turning off the lights when they were being terrorized. She was outside of the car with her phone and instead of carrying it into the house she goes back to the car to put in it the cup holder. I also kept waiting for her to realize that if she shut off the lights it would be harder for the person outside to know where in the house she was. At one point when the power is shut off she pulls out a flashlight that makes it even easier to tell where she is.
While I had some personal annoyances with the movie I did like it and would probably watch it again. I watched it with my dad who also seemed to find it enjoyable. I would recommend for people to give this movie a chance.

Movie Review: Extremity (2018)
Extremity follows a woman “obsessed” with horror as she enters an extreme haunt called Perdition.
The movie opens with gritty found footage style videos of people in extreme haunts cut screens describing the public’s growing interest in extreme haunts. Initially I was concerned the whole movie would be shot in this gritty, found footage style, but it is quickly revealed to be a video playing on the main character, Allison’s phone. The production quality actually seemed pretty nice overall. The filming was not shaky and the set design worked very well for the story that was being told. While the movie was well made, I did have some issues with it.
One issue I had with Extremity was the use of flashbacks to add backstory. This is a technique I generally do not care for. I also felt the flashbacks in this movie did not particularly add anything valuable. The quality of the film in the flashbacks was inconsistent with each other and the rest of the film.
**SPOILERS BELOW**
My other main issue with Extremity was the use of a tremendous number of sub-plots including the main character being off her meds, her relationship issues with her girlfriend, her molestation by her father when she was younger, the Japanese reporter and her camera man, the man running the haunt being behind on child support.
Though the movie had many sub-plots I also felt there were some holes in the plot. There was no real explanation of how people were chosen to attend the haunt, how the haunt made money, why Allison was buried in a box as a child, or how/why the haunt tracked down her father.
I didn’t think the movie made it particularly clear why the Japanese reporter was filming the haunt and the subtitles translating what they were saying was not consistent.
Overall the movie was decently made and fairly entertaining. The acting was good even though none of the actors were ones I was familiar with. I think the movie is worth at least one watch and could be fun with some friends and a couple drinks.

Starry Eyes Reveiw
Just finished my first watching of Starry Eyes and I have to admit I’m not sure how I feel about it.
I felt like the beginning of the movie was a little slow and took a while to actually grab my attention.
Once the movie started to build I found it to be a bit confusing.
I understand that the movie is supposed to be about the lengths that people will go to for fame, but I’m still not entirely sure what happened.
**Spoilers Below**
I really didn’t understand why the girl kills all her friends at the end of the movie.
I could have understood the one girl being killed because she was pretty much a bitch and not really a friend, but everyone else seemed to be decent.
Overall I thought the movie was well made, but I found parts of the story confusing and someday will try watching it again.

First Review
I am going to finally start using this blog and do my first movie review tonight. I am planning to review Starry Eyes as this will be my first watching of it. Later tonight, as I am at work at the moment, I'm going to type up a list of horror movies I have already seen and like for one reason or another. I am also considering doing reviews of movies I have already seen, but I'm not sure if I should since I have some bias for some of them.
