In the czech musical Doktor Faust, Mephisto is played by both a woman and a man. (And yes, Johann pulls both of them in this play) The songs where they sing simultaneously really slap! Idk it's such a fun thing to have in your play.

The musical wasn't very well received amongst the critics, so it may not even be be that good to an unbiased person but since this was actually what got me into Faustverse in the first place it really has a special place in my heart. Tho i do admit the story is extremely butchered and sometimes even nonsensical/rushed.

Then again, this was the author's first play they made and a lot of the actors are fresh out of school. Not to mention the theater is in the middle of nowhere in Prague. No joke the building looks like a kebab store from the outside! So you can't really be that harsh.

You can listen to it on Spotify. Just be warned that the story was heavily simplified and shortened. AND IT'S ALSO IN CZECH!!! Personally my favorite song is "Jen stačí říct" (translated: All you have to do is say so") ESPECIALLY the part after 2:28!

The last picture is actually of me when I went to see it year ago! I even emailed them if they would by any chance sell me the huge poster thing behind me, they did not respond 😔

I love faustopheles. I love falling for your doom, for the thing that will destroy you, the symbol of your corruption. Is it entirely one-sided? probably. but some renditions have mephisto being surprisingly tender with faust. he doesn't have to be. I like to think he admires faust's humanity, and his naïve fascination with science, magic, and the world around him. it doesn't change anything. it doesn't save anyone. he still drags faust to hell. does he want to? does it matter? he has no free will, that's a luxury only humans possess. faust threw away his the moment he met mephisto. he wanted him too much to care. he wanted the knowledge and freedom only a devil could offer.
