| elvira | Last night I was in a little bit of a reading slump 🙄 so I decided to get out of it picking up The Grownup by one of my favorite authors, Gillian Flynn 😍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 My first thought after finishing this was I NEED MORE. This should have been a novel, not just a short story!! Ugh, why Gillian, why? 😫 At first I was a little meh, because I didn't really love the start, the middle part though was so good! I got the creeps multiple times and I couldn't decide if it was just a brilliant psychological thriller or there was supernatural involved! The ending.. is not much of an ending. I hate not knowing the truth at the end of a mystery novel. I like to know what's going on and how everything went down.. so I wasn't very fond of the ending BUT maybe that leaves room for a sequel or something? | elvira | The Elite by Kiera Cass Review 👄 . ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 . The first half of this book was a little flat, there wasn't a lot of action and by now we knew the dynamics of the castle so it wasn't that entertaining to know about the dresses, the secret rooms, he ceremonies and stuff but the second half was good! 😁 For a second I really thought America was leaving the palace and I was so sad! I love her and Maxon together. . I'm officially #TeamMaxon and I can't wait for her to dump Aspen and become a princess. It's not that I hate Aspen, but Maxon is so much better!! 😍 . | elvira | Illuminae 🚀 by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff Review ✨ . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 . This book is amazing! Sci-fi is so not my cup of tea but I loved this book! . First of all the story is really unique once you delve into it. The characters are all very likable and have a fantastic humor. I found myself giggling more than a few times, scratch that, I actually laughed out loud. This book is also very gorgeous to look at. I didn't expect it to be this creepy, maybe it's just me but at times I was genuinely a little scared. There was no specific POV. I usually don't like books with different POV (even though sometimes, for example in thrillers, they are necessary and very enjoyable) because I always end up liking one more than the others, and I dread reading the ones I don't like. So I liked the fact that it was told through files and you could decide how to interpret them. . Let's talk about what really happens. Oh my, oh my. So many things happen, my heart was not ready. One of the most action packed books I've read in a while. I loved that, it was never boring. I always wanted to know more. . I took out half a star because of 2 main reasons: First, at times it was difficult to understand. I don't know if it's only because I'm Italian and I read it in english and I didn't know the meaning of certain specific/technical words or if it was because it actually is hard to grasp certain concepts, especially the ones concerning the machines and the different areas of the ship. Second, especially in the beginning of the book there were a lot of characters. And they were all on different ships doing different things and I couldn't keep up. After a while I got the gist of it. Another little reason is the lack of proper character description. It took almost 200 pages to know Kady had pink hair, and that completely messed up the image I had in mind of her, it's not anything major, but I was a little annoyed haha. . Overall this was a very good read! | elvira | good morning readers! ✨ It pains me to say this but I had the worst night and I slept in. Here’s what happened. . So yesterday night I was reading Illuminae and I got a little spooked 😅 if you know me, I’m afraid of my own shadow so it was only going to be a matter of time before I assumed a fetal position and cried cause I wanted my mommy, so I decided to go over to my grandmas 👵🏻 (she lives directly across from me) and watch tv with her for a while, than keep on reading 👌🏻 All was well until we went to bed. I have a cat named Olivia 🐱 and usually she’s very cute and fluffy but last night she decided to go batshit crazy and run around the house knocking things over and trying to open doors 😡 Plus, my grandma is a snorer and, bless her heart, she kept waking up to the cat and lighting up the room and asking her “what do you need? what do you want?”, when what I really wanted to say was “LEAVE US ALONE, I NEED SLEEP” 😩 So I managed to finally go to bed at like 3am, on my cat’s couch because (let me remind you) my grandma snores. Obviously Olivia, the cat, noticed there was un unidentified human object 👽 on her couch and decided to climb up on me and run ON MY BODY, until I had to get up again. Then she finally fell asleep next to me and started purring and snoring 🙄 Long story short, when I finally fell asleep and the cat stopped doing all that crazy shit it was past 4am, so I ended up sleeping in 😴 . I was planning on finishing Illuminae by 10am this morning, but it’s 9.30 so that’s not gonna happen. Oh, well 🤗 . That’s why I decided to extend the readathon to the next day, until I have to go back to class, so I can be content with my achievements. I still have until 2pm to read so I’m up and running.
