jamie/trevor primer!

individually: trevor john zegras from bedford, new york born march 20, 2001 drafted ninth overall by the ducks in 2019

trevor played for the usntdp (2017-2019) then boston university (2019-2020)

jamie drysdale from toronto, ontario born april 8, 2002 drafted sixth overall by the ducks in 2020 jamie played for the erie otters (2018-2020)

The "Rivalry" & The Plane Ride

After the 2021 WJC, the Anaheim and LA prospects playing in the tournament shared a plane to California together. This picture went around tumblr of Trevor on the plane, leaning on a Team Canada bag.

They played for rival teams in the WJC in 2020 and 2021. Jamie won gold in 2020 and Trevor won gold in 2021. Both played in the U18 IIHF 2019 tournament.

During an interview while at Ducks camp, Jamie said "I’d be lying if I said on the plane ride I wasn’t a bit salty. No words spoken on the plane ride pretty much at all.”

The media has tried to push the rivals narrative and the "salty" comment from Jamie contributed, but Trevor praises Jamie in almost every interview. In this interview while playing with the Ducks, Trevor's asked about being "enemies" with Jamie and responds with "it's funny you say enemies. There was always a mutual respect. Obviously, he's an 02 and I've been playing against him my whole junior experience, which is pretty impressive on his part, being able to play up an age group is pretty good. And I always respected his game, ever since I saw him at my first WJC, he was dynamite. The way he skates. The way he makes plays. I was always a big fan of his game. Lucky enough the Ducks drafted him, six overall. Sitting on my couch, I was the happiest guy, just because he's so dynamic and so easy to play with."

During the WJC, Jamie was asked (about 3:15) about Trevor. "He's good with the puck, good at making plays, good at finding things...when I'm out there I'm just going to try and close my gaps and not give him any time and space because I think he thrives when he has that, so I think taking away that will benefit me."

Then, during a post game interview with the Gulls, (about 2:20) Jamie on his relationship with Trevor: "not going to say it got off to a rocky start, but, obviously coming off of the WJ loss, it wasn't too fun. It's a lot of fun, like [media] touched on, we're living together. So it's a lot of fun living with him and he's a heck of a player as well. So, just watching what he can do on the ice and knowing the guy off the ice is (?) respect, for sure."

Trevor does have a cocky media personality, as seen with the "they haven't been tested with a real team yet" comment towards Team Canada at the WJC, but an ex-Ducks executive said this about Trevor: "Even in his final year with Anaheim, McNab was scanning for character, and he saw it in Ducks prospects Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale. McNab recalls being on a road trip with Anaheim and seeing Zegras spot a fan in a Ducks jersey in St. Louis. The fan was pretty far back, but Zegras managed to throw a puck to them. The next game in Minnesota, Zegras found another Ducks partisan in the crowd and did the same thing. 'It wasn't for any fanfare,' McNab said. 'He wasn't looking for any credit for doing it, but he does things like that. He talks to everybody, he says 'thank you' to people in hotels. It's the little things. He and Jamie have a chance to be really good because they're not all caught up in the publicity they receive.'

San Diego Gulls

First, this iconic video of Jamie manhandling Trevor because he can't see the group.

Jamie and Trevor both started their careers immediately in San Diego with the gulls. Because of COVID, the Gulls played their season in Anaheim, using the Duck's practice rink.

They also lived together (with two of their Gulls teammates, Perreault and Tracey) and were asked about it in every. Single. Interview. Sidenote: the roomies have agreed that Jamie is the best cook, although Trevor debates this in a later interview, claiming he's better at making eggs.

They did an audio interview about living together. Some highlights:

What they admire about each other:

T: "He's a pretty good skater, I know I probably don't love to say that but he was pretty good out there."

J: "Probably his playmaking. I know, we've chirped a couple times that he's probably got a hundred assists and one or two goals."

Cleanest Roommate:

T: "That's a tough one."

J: "I think this is an easy question."

T: "Really?"

J: "Definitely."

T: "Wow, I don't know about that."

Quirks they've learned about each other:

J: "He hasn't stopped talking about his gold medal."

T: "Jamie bought a second fridge. For whatever reason."

It's in this interview that Trevor gets up and gets his medal and goes to Jamie, who is in a separate room, to show off his medal, which fucks up the audio.

The Gulls released Trevor mic'd up video (or Trevor bossing Jamie around for a minute and a half and calls Jamie "baby")

Trevor Gets Called Up

Trevor wore Jamie's suit for his NHL debut because he didn't have one of his own. I like calling it the Cursed suit because Trevor couldn't get a goal with it.

Ducks Era

Jamie got promoted to taxi squad and started practicing with the Ducks after getting a puck to the face. He couldn't play games with the Gulls anyway and they wanted him to get his weight up after not being able to eat from the mouth injury. Also, he chipped a tooth. (He may have gone back to the AHL before playing with the Ducks?)

In an interview about playing in the NHL, Trevor brings up Jamie unprompted. (around 3:30) "Me and Jamie were joking about it the other day, I mean, we grew up watching Getzy play." The interviewer then compares Trevor and Jamie to Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, being faces of the Ducks franchise and winning a cup in 2007. Trevor again says he has a lot of respect for Jamie and that he's an "awesome dude, he makes the game so much easier for me." He says "[Jamie] is actually right down the hall from me right now." (I'm assuming he's giving the interview from a hotel room, but they also live together.)

Trevor made his NHL debut on February 22, 2021 against Arizona but didn't score until Jamie made his debut on March 18, also against Arizona. They scored within three minutes of each other, although Jamie's goal was initially considered an assist.

Jamie did his solo lap and later the team pranked Jamie by hiding in another room, leaving the dressing room empty, which Trevor participated in. They did a postgame interview together, where Trevor says he didn't know Jamie scored until that moment, Jamie calls Trevor "Z" (he does in other interviews too), and during a solo interview Jamie says it was a "good night for our household."

They finally get new suits. The same suit.

Trevor changed his instagram pfp to some art of him and Jamie during their celly. There is also the existence of this playlist which is called "kill" with the same pic as Trevor's pfp, rumoured to be their hype playlist.

A fan painted their first goals, which were given to Jamie and Trevor.

Back to the Gulls

Jamie, after just over of 2 mins of ice time, got an upper-body injury during a game against the Blues and went down to the Gulls for a few games.

Trevor went back down to the Gulls for a bit to work on switching back to center and also seeing Chase de Leo's pigs?

yes, trevor has acquired cowboy boots

Back to the AHL

The Ducks don't make it to playoffs and Jamie and Trevor (with Josh Manhura) go back to the Gulls for AHL playoffs.

Social Media Interactions

On Trevor's insta story for Jamie's birthday, he posted a picture of the two of them with "happy birthday Jimbo"

Trevor also used Ryan Miller's retirement as an excuse to post a pic of him and Jamie on his story.

Offseason

Jamie and Trevor seem to be basketball fans and went to a Lakers game with Alex Turcotte, who is part of the LA Kings organization and played with Trevor in the NTDP and Team USA.
