maybe people just love having their own version of a character, yeah? maybe they don't want to stick to canon and make their own AUs instead. and maybe their own story/universe/AU makes it so their beloved evolves differently. different events will lead to different paths of character development.

and it's okay. who cares if you and your fictional lovelies aren't canon compliant? at the end of the day, it's your own sandbox of love and self indulgence. do what you want forever. if people find that cringe or annoying, they can block and move on.

the same applies to headcanons.

fudge, I'll go even further and say that no one knows your fictional lovely like you do. don't let the fear of straying from canon and what others will think keep you from selfshipping in a way that makes you happy and brings you comfort. if others are displeased, they can look the other way. it's not about them, it's about you and your partners (or family, etc.)
