anora is worth watching but ultimately little more than a better-than-average film ruined by its ending
#the denouement is far too long and incredibly masturbatory#and the main character the film is named after feels like an afterthought with little coherent motivation#especially when compared to the self insert white knight#and violence against women is played for laughs and has little effect on the characters and the story#but the beginning was fun to watch so i think it’s worth it overall if you like watching movies#anora

“does listening to audiobooks count as reading” debates are always so funny bc people tie up their self worth in reading so when you say that listening is not reading they take it as a personal attack. no. it’s really not that deep. im not trying to establish a hierarchy of value. it’s just that words have definitions. listening is not reading. talking is not writing. reading means interpreting symbols, usually visually, and it typically has to be taught. listening to and understanding spoken speech does not require the ability to read. they are different things lol.

Coralie Fargeat’s ‘The Substance’ (2024).
#gif#i enjoyed this movie but i wouldn’t ascribe it the same significance as others online#pretty masterful on a technical level and definitely funny#well done body horror and absurdist satire#with a clear viewpoint#but ultimately i didn’t find it that emotionally impactful though i understood the messaging behind it

I remember a time when dick cheney was considered by many to be the most evil man in the world, maybe with the exception of henry kissinger. Between his role in the invasion of Iraq and the unsubstantiated "weapons of mass destruction" claim, the creation of the patriot act and the expansion of government surveillance power, and the controversy over Halliburton (of which he was the previous CEO of) generating billions of dollars of revenue during the war on terrorism... Idk man I'm just saying I wouldn't be excited about this guy endorsing my candidate. To say the least.
