All About Echo!
Tumblr media
Hey Linked Universe fandom! As a companion post to All About Rift, here’s a fact sheet about our newest Zelda to aid in all your headcanoning, writing, and art-making!
SPOILERS AHEAD!
-She’s the people’s princess. Everyone around Castle Town is familiar with her, and young children even beg her to play. This indicates an unusually close and informal relationship between royalty and subjects, which likely means that the royal family rules over a prosperous and happy little kingdom. A king facing unrest is not one who’d let his daughter mingle so freely with the populace.
-Her primary caregiver is Impa, an elderly nursemaid. Impa is fiercely protective of her charge and helps Zelda escape from the castle when the impostor king locks her up.
-She has a great relationship with her dad. The King of Hyrule is worried sick about his daughter when she’s missing and obviously very relieved to find that she’s okay at the beginning of the game. He pushes her out of the way to protect her from the rift in the throne room. Once the rift in the castle is closed, he tells her how proud he is of her for saving both him and her people.
-She doesn’t get out much. The other geopolitical leaders in Hyrule do not recognize her on sight and don’t even realize who she is when she gives her name (though some comment that her name sounds familiar). This probably means that she has never traveled on official business and also never been introduced to visiting dignitaries. She has likely lived a sheltered life and never been further away from home than Castle Town.
-She hasn’t been trained in any sort of combat. The only thing she’s able to do against monsters on her own is throw things at them (though there is a late-game knockback item you can get that allows Zelda shoulder-check enemies with a spin). Otherwise she has to use the Tri Rod to summon echoes to fight enemies, or else undergo a magical transformation into a Link-like specter to use his weapons.
-She’s good at puzzles. The game is full of them, and many are rather complex!
-She’s very feminine. Most of the outfits you get in game are dresses, and Zelda’s bedroom includes a dressing table with makeup and perfume. She loves to accessorize with her magical items. Increasing the number of accessories you can wear is something you do by asking the Great Fairy to make you “more stylish.”
-She’s an excellent swimmer. Swimming in the game requires no special item (you can do it right away), and has no stamina drain so swimming long distances is a piece of cake. Plus, you can dive down deep and pop back up to the surface easily.
-Certified horse girl! She has a rather sizable figurine or plushie of a horse in her bedroom, and Impa has been secretly raising a horse for her at Hyrule Ranch, which she gets to ride for the first time in-game.
-Certified cat lady! She has a pet cat in her room too. It’s a long-haired, cream colored one. When you speak to it using the magical “talk to cats” outfit you can obtain in game, the cat tells Zelda that it’s keeping watch over her room while she’s out adventuring.
-Certified plant mom! There’s a very large potted plant/tree in her room that takes up an entire corner.
-She loves her friends. At the end of the game, she’s very saddened by Tri’s departure, to the point of being unable to compose herself in front of a crowd of people upon returning to Castle Town. She later frames the Tri Rod in her room to commemorate her time with Tri.

All About Rift!
Tumblr media
Howdy, Linked Universe fandom! I’ve been seeing a lot of headcanons and art about how our new lil guy would fit in with the rest of the Chain, which is amazing - he deserves all the love! I thought I’d make a list of things we know about him from the game so everyone can get to know him better.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
-His hometown is called Suthorn Village, and is at the southernmost edge of the map. It seems to be in a deciduous forest, but it never (or almost never) snows there, so the climate is probably like that of the southeastern US. He has his own house and lives alone.
-As a child, he was “stolen away.” Being “stolen away” is how people in this Hyrule refer to being drawn into a rift. Historically, it’s usually just children who are stolen away, and they never return. However, Link miraculously survived and made his way home, along with all the other kids he was stolen away with. This is probably because he and Zelda are the only ones who can move inside rifts, and it’s implied that not only did Link get out, but he rescued all the other kids that were with him too.
-Each person who’s been stolen away loses something. It seems that most of the kids lost their memories of the event, and became quiet and despondent after. Link lost his ability to speak, but that seems to be the only negative aspect for him. He also gained the ability to sense rifts, and so has dedicated his life to seeking them out and keeping people safe from them.
-He makes a habit of patrolling the nearby woods and protecting people from monsters. One of the first NPCs you encounter in Suthorn Forest/Suthorn Prairie area is calling out for help from Link, as he is surrounded by monsters while out foraging.
-He has a close relationship with Lueburry, an old man who lives in the woods near his village. Lueburry is a researcher and the one that crafted Link’s weapons, including the Sword of Might.
-He is very expressive!!! It’s noted that though he can’t speak, his expressions and emotions shine through loud and clear. It should also be noted that though he can’t speak, he can vocalize (like wordless yelling). So unlike Wild pre-Calamity, he doesn’t hide behind a mask and appears to have little trouble conveying his intentions and how he’s feeling.
-He seems to be fairly outgoing and is a notable figure in his village. He’s well loved! He makes a habit of interacting with people, including children. One boy in the village recounts how Link taught him about snow.
-He doesn’t know Zelda at all. He knows of her, of course, but they have never met (until the events of the game).
-He gains possession of the Triforce of Courage during the final boss battle with Null, but after the battle it seems that it leaves him and the full Triforce (or Prime Energy, as it’s called in this game) reforms.
-He gets his voice back at the end of the game. It’s noted at one point that he keeps fighting back against the rifts as if he hopes that if he fights hard enough, he might be able to speak again. And he does! After Null’s defeat, he and Zelda are teleported to Castle Town and Link is shown animatedly telling a crowd of people what happened, seemingly at great length.

YOU'RE VERY RIGHT ABOUT FOUR HAVING MASSIVE GRIP STRENGTH AND YOU SHOULD SPEAK THE TRUTH something something it's the smithin'
It is the smithing! Yes! Our boy never drops crap when he's startled, he just holds it tighter and he could probably crush most fruits with one hand.
The headcano is actually because I saw a video once of a Smith irl juicing an apple with his bare hand to display his grip strength and I just knew Four could do that 100%
:)

Hi I wrote a little thing based on this art by ultimatedirk (which is really cool go reblog it)
"I want to be kind," Sky says, and it is a decision. It is an act of mercy, the demon king spitting out a curse as he stays his blade, just long enough to give him a chance.
"I want to be kind," Four says, and it is teamwork. It is learning how to act in balance, to never stifle the part of himself that can see the best in people.
"I want to be kind," Time says, and it is a prayer. It is a plea to the universe to let him stay innocent, please, just a little. Just enough.
"I want to be kind," Twilight says, and it is a reflection of his home. It is what he was raised to be, it is his parents and his brother and his village.
"I want to be kind," Wind says, and it is a choice. It is stubbornness, paired with a sword he was never meant to wield and a power he was never meant to have. He made himself a hero, he can make himself kind, too.
"I want to be kind," Legend says, and it is a scream. It is sinking in nails and teeth and refusing to allow this, too, to be taken. It is pain and desperation and defiance.
"I want to be kind," Hyrule says, and it is quiet determination. It is finding the beauty in the broken, the kindness in the suffering. It is a search, but one that is worth it.
"I want to be kind," Warriors says, and it is a surrender. It is laying down his sword, allowing himself to believe that kindness is not weakness, is not an opening for betrayal.
"I want to be kind," Wild says, and it is a rewriting. It is a new identity, pieced together by his own hands, formed into what he wants it to be, and no one else can tell him that it is too soft, too gentle. He can make himself that way, and he does.
