Yet another unnecessary and unsolicited blog. I have a new hyperfixation basically every other day, so the only consistent thing about this blog will be its inconsistency on the stuff I'm gonna post. Mostly doctor who or wlw (probably) | She/Her | 29 | Italian | infinite passion for stupid memes

The way I IMMEDIATELY thought about this:

(yes, for the people who don't know that's Sylvester McCoy, Radagast's actor)
if I was evil I'd make a series out of the silmarillion and end an episode with maedhros being hung on thangorodrim just so viewers can complain about cliffhangers

That last sketch got me thinking if Maglor should have stretch marks, and it spiralled into something very different
Elves can have scars, but these can only form if the wound was also emotional, not just physical.
Tyelpe has multiple scars.
Not every burn or cut done while working caused a scar, but some did. He has some small burns in the palm of his right hand from were he tried to grab a hot metal bar as a kid, and got yelled at by his father. It wasn't the scorching metal but his father's scolding that left the mark.
He has a cut scar on his left arm from one time he was learning wood carving and his knife slipped. Celegorm laughed at him, but then taught him how to treat a wound. The scar was a reminder of that lesson, and that softer side of his uncle.
His left hand has some puncture wound scars. They were caused by a beautiful silver and emerald pin he had made for Finrod. The tails of the snakes in it just pierced his skin as he clenched it in his fist while telling his father and uncle they were no longer his kin.
He has some more burn scars from the time he was working on the Elessar for Galadriel. He put so much of his heart in it, and was really proud with the result. His body kept each scar, even the smallest ones, of the bittersweet joy of that process.
The same happened with the forging of the rings. He was proud of the marks on his hands, most of them coming from his hard work and passion.
He used to have some very thin and small, almost invisible, scars on his back too. They were left there by the passionate caress of some very skilled hands, drown in desire.
Now, they are almost completely lost under all the overlapping deep dashes crossing his back and part of his arms, irregular, without a pattern.
His body didn't keep every scar of his torment, they would be too many. He has the puncture wounds of the arrows in his chest and his left leg, yes. He has some extra scars on his hands, where his broken bones broke the skin. He didn't even feel the pain of those in his body, it went straight to his soul, and broke something far deeper. His passion for creation, his belief in using his hands to create a better world.
But besides those, his body was broken in many other ways, yet only the lashes in his back remained. Lashes caused by the passionless cruelty of some very skillful hands, drown in ire.
Lashes that erased those beautiful scars his heart had wanted to keep.
Lashes that hurt like the deepest betrayal

Ringmaker - “You were never alone, littlest one. Not in life. Not in death.”
Perhaps he won’t notice them until his final, bloodied breaths, but Fëanor and Curufin won’t leave their little smith to face this enemy alone. So when he arrives to Mandos, exhausted and hurt, they can say hand on heart that they were always there.
They never stopped loving him.
And the whole family is so proud of everything he’s done.

hot take: the problem with doctor who is NOT that they brought billie piper back, it is NOT that ncuti left early, it is NOT that 15 never faced a dalek or a cyberman, and it is CERTAINLY NOT that it’s ’too woke’
the problem with doctor who is that they have forgotten how to engage an audience without utterly confusing them. if i were a writer, this is what i’d change:
1. i would lower the stakes
my biggest issue with dw in recent years is that the stakes are always SO high - it’s always ‘we need to sort this out or else the ENTIRE UNIVERSE WILL END. this rarely happened at the start of nuwho. of course, there were instances where galaxies and universes were at stake, but there were also plenty of instances where the doctor solves issues to A. save his own skin, B. save his friends, and C. to save smaller populations of people and/or generally do what is morally right.
prime example is in new earth. the world isn’t really at stake, he has a couple of objectives: get cassandra to piss off, free the test subjects, stop the infections from spreading. he doesn’t spend the hour worrying that if he doesn’t help then the world will end, he sees a problem that’s morally corrupt and he solves it for the sake of that group. the payoff is just as good, and actually IMPROVES the payoff for episodes where a bit more is at stake, like the poison sky, for example.
2. i would stop plots from spilling over across seasons
i’d like to remind everyone that, although there were things that kind of linked into each other and were mentioned again, generally for the first 4 seasons of (new) doctor who, an overarching issue was built up, climaxed, and resolved throughout a single season. for example: bad wolf in s1. this has gotten worse and worse over time but has honestly been a problem since rtd1 ended, and for some reason when he came back it got WORSE than it’s ever been!!! there’s just way too much overspill across seasons, things even span accross different doctors more recently which is just too much at times. when it’s little things it doesn’t matter, but it’s not. again, this has been an issue before this finale, but this finale is a good example since there were a hundred and one loose ends before he regenerated. when nuwho began, they literally stated each regen would be treated as a soft reboot and their neglect of that has been a downfall.
3. i’d make doctor who dirty and grungy again
it’s too clean futuristic ultra modern sci-fi these days. the tardis doesn’t look like he stole it. what happened to those fun tardis scenes where the entire thing would shake as it took off and landed? why is everything so light and clean? it should be dim and cozy and imperfect.
4. i’d make the companions’ family members more prominent and interesting characters again
doesn’t take much explaining, really. picture jackie tyler, now picture carla sunday. who has a stronger presence and personality in your head and why is it jackie tyler? (there’s bound to be someone who disagrees and that’s fine but i don’t rlly want to hear about it tbh)
5. i’d re-inject some british whimsy
please don’t mistake this as me saying doctor who ‘isn’t british’ or something weird and gammon-y like that, i love when dw explores different cultures, the story and the engine was one of my highlights last season, i just mean like - let him save the world with a jammy dodger again. let him be brought back to life by a good cup of tea. it makes it enjoyable.
there are lots of things, but those are my main ones.
EDIT: thank you to everyone who has weighed in on this - i’ve found it really interesting to see everyone’s perspectives on this because honestly i could talk for king and country about it, but also i just wanted to say that it makes me kind of sad that one of my only negative posts about doctor who is my most popular post :( if you’re reading this, it’s your sign to do something positive today, if i can help to make just one person’s day better then that’s a win to me :)

me: truly a well crafted tragedy is such a bittersweet pleasure to take in and serves a purpose, not just as a sad story but as a reminder that even that which ends badly might not have happened in vain or for nothing. The love, the grief, the actions still meant something simply for having taken place and for us partaking in it.
me when said tragedy is about to actually unfold, sweating: ok but consider this. i dont want this to happen

Mairon invent Materials
Mairon: Master Aulë, I come to show you my new invention! A new material hides deep in the earth!
Aulë: Mairon, what a wonderful idea! Please, show me.
Mairon: There is, I call it Uranium!
Aulë: Nice, what are their features?
Mairon: First of all, it's very aesthetic! It glows green in the dark. Second, it can be used to produce a lot of energy, and it has many uses in chemistry and physics applications.
Aulë: Wonderful! Your creations never disappoint me!
Mairon: Oh, now comes the best part... It's poisonous!
Aulë: ...I'm sorry, what?
Mairon: Yes! If you breathe their dust or use it for some sort of colour paint, or simply stay near to them for too much time, in your body starts to grow strange masses, which create a lot of problems and slowly kill you!
Aulë: ...Mairon, for the love of Eru, why?
Mairon: Oh, and that's not all! In the right condition, IT CAN EXPLODE!
Aulë: MAIRON NO!
Mairon: Mairon yes! >:3

Top 10 Biggest Ls of Sauron’s Career
10) his 2nd death, to a mostly-human Isildur, even though he has the ring. Since Gil-Galad and Elendil managed to weaken him and Isildur was on a revenge-high, this is maybe his least cringe death.
9) Failing to think of what the impact of his ring would be, namely how when he put it on to control the other ring-bearers, all the Elves who had their own rings of power just…immediately knew he was there and then just…took the rings off. Thus circumventing any possible control over them. Still kind of effective as it meant that they didn’t get to benefit from the use of the rings while he was in power, but still.
8) Eönwë captures him and Sauron makes the sexiest and most pathetic disguise he can muster so that he can sweet-talk his way out of this because he is a little bitch.
7) Decides way back in the years of the lamps that the Valar were not running the world at peak efficiency and organisation so he decided to split. And decided to join Melkor, the Vala of chaos and disharmony, who he thought would be able to run things much better. This was only the first of his many bad decisions.
6) Aragorn rolls up to Mordor and yells “hey Sauron! I’m a big important prophecy hero! You should fight me!” and Sauron goes “omg you’re so right” and does, thus failing to notice the two and a half Hobbits sneaking up his mountain.
5) Finrod Felagund tells Sauron that he and Beren are named Dungalef and Nereb. Which you might notice is roughly the names Felagund and Beren spelled backwards. Sauron buys this and does not question it ever.
4) While fleeing from Lúthien after she grants him mercy, he flies directly over Gondolin. The place that he and Morgoth have been searching for for ages. He does not notice it.
3) While getting bodied by a demigodess and her new talking dog friend, he has transformed himself into baby’s first deviantart furry oc, because said talking dog was prophesied to die facing the most powerful wolf, and Sauron thought that was him. He was wrong.
2) Gets bodied by aforementioned demigodess and her new talking dog friend.
1) Sitting in his temple in Atlantis Númenor, laughing maniacally, assured of his own victory, and not looking out the window behind him to see the massive wave that is approaching at mach fuck. Dies. Is never again able to have a body that men (specifically) find hot.
