We got her a coffee wood chew because she kept wanting to bring chunks of firewood into the house. I staged this chew out in the yard so she could discover it all on her own and feel like she found a really cool prize out there lol. She loves it!

My issue with dog talking buttons is that dogs are already communicating incredibly sophisticated concepts to us and the fact that they can do that via body language, eye gaze and other cues natural to dog physiology is a lot more interesting and impressive to me than the idea that someone can teach a dog to hit a button. Anzu recently said to me “help! I’m hungry but I forgot where you put my food dish in this new space!” and he didn’t need even one button

This is the only version of this trend I stand by. Everyone else talking about herders/spaniels/retrievers/bullies/etc was just talking about normal dog behaviour like it was singular to their breed type. This is truely a situation unique to terrier owners. This will happen to you if a terrier manifests in your home. Be warned

Woody caught her first rabbit today! She has flushed plenty of course but this time she did actually catch it, and I’m very proud of her. She carried it all the way home and then buried it in a pile of dirt in the active construction site that is our driveway currently, so I made her dig it back up lol

Woody demanded we go for a walk in the wind and the rain and the cold, immediately flushed a rabbit 200m from the house, and then we spent half an hour in the same spot making sure it definitely wasn’t still there until I finally caught her. She’s sopping wet. I’m cold. She has never been happier.

if we’re defining a “working/working-line” dog as “dog that must perform the tasks or purpose that it’s ancestors were selectively bred to do for its livelihood” e.g. a Great Pyrenees that lives outside 24/7 with its flock, a sighthound that goes out and hunts hares, a border collie who moves sheep every day on the farm, etc. then I am going to also say that this applies to companion breeds. a pekingese was bred for the job of sitting on its owners laps and to be a little watchful hot water bottle, therefore if you own a Pekingese today and it sits on your lap it is a working dog.
