The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
So I was thinking specifically about the trio of Joel-Benjamin-Lenny as love interests for Midge, when I started inevitably drawing comparisons to Gilmore Girls and eventually I was like
and I know this is probably biased because of my tastes, lol, but like... I still think these parallels are pretty valid.
These are the AS-P relationship archetypes, according to me (lmao):
There's the first one. The easy one. The comfortable one (Midge/Joel, Rory/Dean, Lorelai/Chris). The one that's easy to fall back into and hard to let go of. This person has a difficult time accepting every part of you, and although they eventually learn to, there's a persistent undercurrent of fighting and tension. They've been a big part of your world in the past, and while they'll always be special to you, there's a lot of emotional baggage weighing it down.
Then there's the one that's good on paper. The one that "almost was" (Midge/Benjamin, Rory/Logan, Lorelai/Max+Lorelai/Jason). This person is rich, witty, educated, and capable of giving you the world. Your families know each other and are completely supportive. There's potential here, but their world is different than yours. They accept your world and you accept theirs - but while you can coexist within those spaces, there is a tendency to miscommunicate. There's also a dramatic rejection involved in this relationship.
Last is the kinda odd one. People don't "get" this one (Midge/Lenny, Rory/Jess, Lorelai/Luke). It's unconventional, but this person gets you on an intrinsic level so their words affect you. The chemistry is palpable, but the relationship runs the risk of being turbulent or unstable. They aren't met with open arms by your family because they're rough around the edges, but they understand and embrace all the weird things about you. They're on the same path as you, and they're already a part of the world you're carving out for yourself. This is the person whose existence inspires you to keep growing.
so anyway, this has been my TED talk, goodnight 😂

You and Patrick are two good grapes. Different notes, different tannins, but together you’ve managed to make one perfect blend. That being said, if I may impart a slice of marital sagacity: you and I, we’re two potent grapes. You know, there’s a lot of your father in Patrick. But just because their notes are subtle doesn’t mean they require any less attention.

I don’t know if she‘s coming. It‘s her husband‘s funeral. It‘s exactly why I think she might miss it.

That’s…Mia. Must be a lot to take in. Yeah, that’s the…understatement of the millennium. She became a hero. Well, she had good parents. Do you want to meet her?
