The eerie paintings seen in Dario Argento's Deep Red (aka Profondo Rosso, 1975) were by Italian painter Enrico Colombotto Rosso (1925 - 2013). His surname may even be an inspiration on the film's title, and it's easy to see how his morbid and moody artwork would influence Argento's own films.
