I’ve been taking a little break from painting to try and recharge my creativity, but when your beloved grandmother asks you to memorialize her son, you do it. Swipe to see the original photo of my Uncle who I was quite fond of. I am incredibly moved by all of your stories of loved ones on my giveaway post and I am so sorry to those who have had people (or pets) in their lives who have moved on too soon. My uncle was 41 when he died and left behind 4 children. My grandmother believes that he comes back to her in the form of a butterfly, sometimes to help her find parking spots😸💜I love this about her. Happy Sunday everyone. 3 days until Samhain!

For many centuries, dowsers did not have our beautifully modern crystal pendulums to divine with. Instead, they used whatever they had that would swing in equilibrium. Buttons, sewing needles, fishing weights, or even wedding bands. In Romani culture, it is/was common to determine the sex of an unborn baby by tying a piece of the woman’s hair to her wedding band and letting it hang over her belly. So when I found these vintage brass bands, I thought they would make the perfect dowsing pendulums. I paired them with amethyst beads for additional reach into the unknown. I’ve been trying to prepare my toddler (who has very big feelings for his age) for our move this Winter. We’ve read countless books about moving and talk in annoyingly upbeat voices about all the wonderful things his home state has to offer (we’re temporary transplants here in Florida). My son is sensitive to loud noises, so in trying to get him excited about Maine we’ve been talking about how quiet it is. How there are less people and less cars to make noise and that sometimes you don’t hear anything at all in the forest. And the other day, in what I can already tell will be a series of philosophical questions he will pose to me, he asked “What makes quiet?”. And to be honest, I was stunned. I didn’t really know the answer. In my adult mind, “nothing” makes quiet. The dark abyss. But deep inside, I know there’s more magick in the answer.🕯 . So, on this deeply introspective new moon in Libra, I would love to hear what you all think “makes quiet”?🖤

Dominomancy is one of my favorite forms of divination. Like playing cards and dice, you derive meaning from the combination of numbers (or suits). Typically, dominos are laid out in various spreads (much like tarot) and the individual dominos are read with their edges in combination. They are typically placed horizontally (mine are vertical for photo purposes), are never read for yourself, and are never ever read on a Monday or Friday. Here, I can’t actually read for myself since they are vertical, but if I were to do a little divining, I would say it’s all business and finances in my past, present, and future (as well as a large sum of money coming my way soon) which makes sense since we are wrapping up our renovation on this home and getting ready to list it shortly. Have you all ever divined with dominoes or like to play? Once I move back north I’d like to start a Witches’ Card Night once a month that I’ll be inviting everyone to on here. I grew up on card and dice games and it’s one of the things I truly miss about being so far away from my family.🎲🖤 . They’re back! I haven’t made these in about six months, but after about a week of taking a creative break, I was feeling inspired to do something different. Normally when I’m feeling uninspired, I try an art form that I’m not skilled at. I feel like it resets my brain a bit, in terms of learning a different skill and taking my mind off the usual. One of my favorite ways to use the element of water is to transfer energy. For instance, when you place a jar of water (or gather it from a body of water) under the light of the full moon, that simple glass of water becomes charged. Imbued with the potent energy of the full moon ~ an oomph-factor for spells. Although you may not always be able to perform spells on the eve of the full moon, you can always use the lunar power you drew down into the water in your rituals and spells. This can be done with the dark moon, new moon, or just the waning and waxing phases as well. . Water is responsible for emotions, dreams, and the subconscious. If you’re ever feeling too grounded, apathetic, cold, uninspired or stagnant, working with the water element can help. . Confession time: other than fulfilling orders this weekend, I have been completely ignoring my work. Usually I would take every free second to squirrel away in my studio and make art, witchcraft medicine and ritual tools, and brainstorm ideas. But this waning moon and I are taking a breather. And I feel this immense guilt because in this day and age, there is an intense pressure to constantly innovate. To constantly be creative and active and never idle. So I asked what would happen if I just let go until I felt the urge to create once again. And Lenormand told me something absolutely beautiful. She told me that if I idle, for just this once, I’ll be let in on a beautiful secret.🕯💖 . 9. Bouquet: joy, gift, beauty . 26. Book: secret, mystery, studies, knowledge

I’m starting to think about my Samhain altar...who I’d like to connect with. Who I’d like to leave a glass of wine and autumn fruit out for. Who I’ll leave candles for outside the doorways so they know where to enter. I have always connected with my maternal grandmother ~ the artist, the loner, the romance reader, the artist, the mind-mover of metal objects. I smell her perfume waft by every now and again, but I haven’t in a long time. I miss her. I think I will also cal upon my Pnessylvania Dutch side because I am eternally curious about them and have found little answers in the records.🥀Who are you all planning to connect with on this coming eve where the veil between this world and the next is at its thinnest?🕯 .
