MAKEUP BAG METHOD
hey guys so I was thinking about how to make lifting makeup easier and I was thinking about needing a new makeup bag so I thought “hey, why not get both?”
So this here is what I call the makeup bag method: first, grab a tote from the store - for example we’ll use ulta. Grab an ulta tote and make your way around the store. Grab a makeup bag (or use one of your own) and place it at the bottom of the tote. Now start grabbing items you would like to lift, making sure to check prices, for rfids, swatches, compare, etc to blend in. Once you’ve filled the makeup bag with the amount of makeup you want, zip it up. Now it’s time for crime: go to a blind spot and conceal the bag. Once the makeup bag is officially in your purse or shopping bag, walk away like a crime had never been committed. What is shoplifting? I’ve never heard of illegal activity! I’m just a polite, innocent shopper who likes to look at pretty things and support capitalism!
Okay, okay, not all of us act like that but whatever. You wanna hear some benefits to this plan? Okay, here we go:
1. The bag is easy to ditch. If you get a bad feeling and are worried of getting caught, just leave the bag in the store instead of wasting time on putting your items back.
2. You can have multiple makeup bags. You don’t have to be strapped into bringing one bag at a time and all that jazz, you can use many. Why not have three, four or even five bags to get your new merch?
3. It’s not super sus. Since your at ulta “buying” new makeup, why not get a bag to put it all in? Plus, SAs will see that your only item is a makeup bag and not hundreds of dollars worth of cosmetics. Congrats! You’re not being sused.
I don’t know if anyone has pointed this method out yet or not but if they have I’m just bringing it back up for relevancy. Feel free to add your other ideas on this method and if you think it’s a good idea, I kinda want to try this like now lol.

Just some reminders and tips to all my fellow lifters
If you feel uncomfortable or nervous, stop what you’re doing. Even if it doesn’t mean someone has sussed you out, it’s still never a good idea to lift while anxious
If you’re lifting makeup for your own personal use and you want something high-end, just lift small. I don’t mean keep your lift light, I mean only conceal small items. Leave the big palettes, those are fads and they’re cool looking but you don’t need them and once they’re in your bathroom no one else gonna see them anyway. Just lift the individual eyeshadow colors, or the individual bronzers/foundations. Since they’re smaller they’re easier to conceal, which means less anxiety for you and more makeup without the worry of peeling off RFID tags.
If you feel you must visit the same mall several times in one week (as I did because school hasn’t started yet and I’m hella bored), change up your look. Go feminine one day, lazy college student another, butch/tomboy another. Wear glasses one day, contacts the next, or those fake lenses if you don’t need a prescription. Try not to hit up the same stores if possible, and if so make sure the SA that helped you out before isn’t there again today. Try to go at a different time of day.
Make a list of what you want. Try to only lift items on this list. It can keep you from getting carried away, getting careless, or even getting addicted.
Try to only lift things you need. If you need a new dress, shirt, or jeans, do so. Only lift body scrubs or makeup when you’re running low. If you’re running out of closet space, collect the things you don’t wear anymore, donate them to Goodwill, then go out and lift some new cute stuff as a replacement, but don’t lift more than you got rid of. This keeps you from hoarding and from lifting “just for the thrill/heck of it”, and also keeps people from getting suspicious of why you have so many cute clothes, or so much extra makeup.
Now go out and have a lovely lift, babies 😊✨🍰

Fuckkkk ugh I feel so dumb. I was 🏋️♀️ in Claire’s because it’s basically a free for all and I exited and two people sitting on a bench were staring at me as I walked away. I looked back at the Claire’s and I fucking forgot there are windows to see inside so I’m like 90% sure they saw me conceal and then walk away without paying. That was my last stop anyway but ughhhhh. I also got jumpscared bc I saw someone with a yellow vest as I was exiting another store (I didn’t 🏋️♀️ anything from that one) and he was just standing there at the entrance not moving. So I keep walking and it turns out he was waiting for another guy with the same vest. The had one of those roll arounds so ig they were dropping stuff off. But ohmygodddd that scared meeeee. ALSO ALSO I was in b&bw and one of the SAs was watching me and was following me and she made it so obvious 😭. It’s weird tho because I didn’t even 🏋️♀️ anything from there?? So ig I’m not going back to this mall for a few months lol. Anyway haul later

drop more lifting tips... begging you
Hmm okay here’s some random things I’ve learned over the last few months.
Ülțêæ only checks cams after a theft has occurred. If the SAs sus you out, a manger will go to check the cams in the back and see if they saw you conceal earlier.
Ülțêæ doesn’t hide rfids inside packaging. At least not in the few states I’ve visited. It’s always gonna be obvious on the outside of the box.
L!ft small things until it becomes second nature. THEN move on to bigger and bigger hauls every few months. If you’re trying something new practice it if you can first. Like if ur concealing in a bag for the first time practice w a mirror in ur room.
Don’t wear anything that makes noise. Don’t wear ur purse with a buttload of keychains (me). Instead wear a soft bag that doesn’t make any noise. Don’t wear a bunch of necklaces and bracelets. This is terrible for sleight of hand. All of this makes sure nobody can hear you when you zip in and out of isles at stores. You want to be unpredictable so the SAs never know where you are. You can play this off as adhd LMAO😭
If something seems like a free for all.. WATCH OUT FOR OTHER CUSTOMERS! Those of u who read my Claire’s story know T~T. If ur lucky they won’t snitch,, but ppl like to feel proud like they’re helping the store by letting them know someone is stealing.
Find a way to naturally look left and right to make sure no one is there or watching you. You’d be surprised to find that most of the time other ppl shopping or SAs are so focused at what they’re looking at that they won’t see you conceal even if you’re in sight of them.
Sorry I tried to think of ones I haven’t seen on here as often or at all so I hope these make sense.

OOC:
It sucks that I don't usually buy makeup because then I have nothing for the Marta hauls. I can't use the cup trick & things don't fit in my sleeves when I'm RP'ing as my other OCs because they usually don't get stuff of that size.

Caught Story:
(player character: tobi)
I was just walking around, not planning on llfting. I had a long black trench coat on.
Saw a convenience store, went inside to warm up & nab a monster energy. (It was privately owned/operated I now know & I did suspect when I walked in.)
I took a loop for cams, & I did see one but I didn't check the other side & I must not have been in a good enough blind. Chose one to buy, stuck the other in my pocket, but I was wearing gloves & I didn't have my angle right to use my coat & body to block so it was hard.
Went & bought the drink, but it was more than $5 so I paid with card instead of cash.
Went out & immediately next door where I transferred monster between pockets & started looking for another thing to take home & one thing to purchase bc it also seemed probably privately owned & I didn't want to only steαl, I felt it would be only fair to also purchase.
The cashier/owner came into this store but for some reason I didn't think anything of it. I kept browsing, but then he found me.
Had some drink mix in my hand when he started talking to me (he had an accent & I'm hard of hearing* so I was a bit lost). He wanted me to come back to his store. I denied everything at first. I walked out still holding the drink mix by accident but then we remembered & I went back in & set it on the counter saying I'd be right back.
I immediately decided this was locally owned so I reached into my wallet & got $5. We went into his store while he was talking about proof & I was still denying it outside but once we got into his store I just held out the monster & $5. He refused to take the $5 at first but I insisted, ending up leaving it at the countertop.
Then I left & bought stuff in the next place over.
(*I can't remember which of my OCs is hoh. I'm pretty sure Tobi has glasses so he/they shouldn't be the one to be hoh.)
What I did wrong:
didn't plan it
looked sus
local/private place (NEVER DO THAT, it isn't even abt getting caught, it's about the fact that I was taking from that guy's family!)
There were too few in stock & it was obvious one was gone
I didn't properly scout for cams & didn't properly block
I took too long trying to pocket the monster & I wasn't doing well because I was wearing gloves
I didn't identify the cam as one that records & I didn't notice the computer screen at the till
I chose my pocket not my waistband & it wasn't well covered by my coat
I used card
I stuck around in the area
I didn't run away as soon as I saw him in the other store
I considered llfting again (& again from a place that was probably individually owned)
I almost accidentally brought smth out with me from the next place
I followed him back
I admitted it
(I think I actually did the right thing in this specific case to admit it & return it & also donate $5 as an apology because of the special circumstances)
I paid with card again at the next place

Note
do you know how to open these kinds of tags?
I personally just cut the fabric they are attached to off with seam ripping scissors I keep in my wallet, and then sew the hole when I get home.
another option is that this can be removed by taking a strong magnet, and holding it to the rounded area.
you can also just cut it. they do sometimes have an alarm inside that will go off, but if you get it home that's not an issue. this is what people use booster bags for. I don't personally use booster bags, since bringing one into a store is a felony, but there are a lot of ways to make them.

repost cuz it had too many notes
Okay, I haven’t been doing this for long, but I’ve been doing reasonably well, especially since the pre/during Christmas period is when I’ve done the bulk of my magic. I’ve fucked up a few times. I’ve beeped. I’ve hit locations more frequently than I should have, and when I haven’t known what I’m walking into. But I still haven’t been suspected, or caught.
And I’m gonna say this because I know there are a few new lifters around:
Here’s what I’m offering:
Know yourself
Know your limits. Don’t get cocky. Don’t get over-ambitious. When I first got to the online lifting community, I saw epic hauls, and yeah, I was like, “This is awesome. I want to do this.” But I also know my own limitations. Obviously I’m not going to walk out with a designer handbag the first time I lift: you need to ease yourself into it.
Educate yourself
Especially for the US lifters, there is a wealth of information out there on tag types used in stores, company policy, etc. Read it. Be a little sponge for information in your early days, and remember things.
Adapt to new environments
You may not know how everything works, but look and learn. One of the best tactics is to scope out things in a non-sus way. Keep an eye on where cameras are, and assume that all of them are monitored. Remember that while your eyes can move, your body doesn’t have to. This also goes for blindspots: temporary displays, or cages being unpacked, can create perfect blindspots for you. Distracted staff who are presumably not going to be shoplifted in front of might have their back turned, creating perfect opportunities for you. Remember, a lot of security is based around how they think lifters work and this doesn’t account for people doing things like concealing when someone had their back turned or utilising a cage in front of a camera. Physical blindspots are one thing, but *human* blindspots are something else entirely.
Be aware of your body language
Don’t rush and fidget after lifting. Don’t give any indication that you’re nervous. Gear yourself into autodrive; convince yourself that you’re just browsing, and continue that mindset immediately before and after concealing. “Forget” that you’ve concealed once you have. Learn how to do things with your hands without actually looking at your hands: this is super important for peeling off RFIDs on the floor, as well as concealing.
Be Quick
Don’t fuck around with packaging (don’t be scared to leave something on the shelf if you don’t think you can untag it) in a way that’s noisy or complicated or is going to require lots of messing around. Don’t lift in ways that mean unnaturally adjusting your bag or clothing. If you put your hand into a pocket, pulling out a phone rather than nothing is a better idea. The aim is to be fluid and natural.
Get out if you feel sussed
I don’t give a shit if you’re missing out on something you really want, the moment you make a certain eye contact with the certain wrong somebody– and trust me, you will know that look– ditch what they have seen and get the fuck out. You can get that something elsewhere. It’s not worth ruining your future for a bottle of foundation.
Pay attention to staff
Watch out for who’s working when you lift or suss out a shop. Don’t rely on them forgetting you. And the moment you feel recognised? Get out. And aim not to return for a long time. There are a few places I won’t be going back to for awhile, but I was smart enough to make sure they weren’t places I frequent anyway. Don’t count on your “well, I got away that time” meaning that you’re going to be safe the next time you go in.
Bullshit
Learn to conceal well and bullshit. Learn how to move the contents of your bag aside, concealing what you’ve jacked. Learn how to breezily roll your eyes about something you bought elsewhere that sets off alarms. Learn how to act like normal people would in any ordinary situation. Fluster, be embarassed, you have no idea what’s going on. Humans are social creatures who empathise and generally will interact well with people who are “nice.” Be nice. Be everything they want you to be, and they won’t want you to be one of the “bad guys”.
Make use of diversion
If you offer up your handbag for inspection and are carrying bags of groceries, odds are likely that you’re not going to be asked to reveal the contents of the grocery bags. Look at where people are directing their line of sight, and work out how to do things out of that line of sight. Learn how to “look” at one product while you’re concealing another one.
Learn where the weak points are
Nine times out of ten, humans are the weakest link in every security system. Know when staff are going to be distracted because they’re exhausted/bored/busy. Know where to hit human empathy. Know where to hit blindspots. Find that untagged item or changeroom consultant who doesn’t count, while you have an extra item concealed under a mountain of clothing. Most SAs are not naturally suspicious unless something tweaks their alarm bells. Don’t tweak their alarm bells.
Start Small
Seriously, don’t aim for high-end makeup palettes just yet. Maybe a lipstick is a good starter. Wear long sleeves, get a sense of sleight of hand and acting normal first. Get comfortable with what you’re doing.
Aim for improvement
No matter how good you are, you can always do better. Not in terms of stuff acquired, in terms of subtlety and timing and technique. Every time you lift, once you’re out of the danger zone, reflect on what you’ve done. Look at it as though you’re watching a video of how you did it, and work out where you fucked up. Make sure you never make the same mistake again. Making mistakes is fine, and part of the learning process, as long as you actually learn from them and don’t get your arse busted while doing so.
Take breaks
Don’t lift daily. Don’t lift when you’re in the middle of anxiety or something awful has happened. Even if you get away clean, you’re going to feel it for awhile afterwards. I get that lifting CAN ease negative feelings, but when you’re emotional and out of control, that’s when you’re liable to fuck up. Use the prospect of getting out to lift again as a motivation to get your headshit together by all means, but make sure you’re operating at full capacity when you hit. The best situation, otherwise, is getting out with stuff, but wondering how you did it, and being haunted. The typical situation is leaving empty handed. The worst? Getting caught. All three of these are not ideal situations.
Don’t do what they’re expecting you to do
This is basically the crux of it: don’t act like what people think a “typical lifter” is. Dressing well is part of it. But another part of it is knowing what items are likely to get lifted, and not pointedly going for them. Another part is controlling your body language– your thoughts, even– and being normal. Another part is not returning to the scene of a huge haul because you know it’s “easy.” Being polite and friendly rather than evasive and suss, when talked to, will make you look far less suspicious than if they’re already onto you and you are annoyed or aggressive. Hell, you might get people THINKING you look suss, but convincing themselves that you’re not because they’ve watched you and you’re just a bit OCD or awkward rather than lifting. They know you. You’re fiiine.
Look at how you leave stock
If you’re going to leave packaging anywhere, return it to in the middle of the items on display, packaged up fine, like you opened it to look at the item and then returned it. Don’t leave it somewhere random, and don’t leave it at the front or the back: that’s obvious. Leave it where it’s not going to draw attention for some time. If you’re going to leave rubbish, make sure it looks like rubbish (rather than a destroyed tag) or is well hidden. If you have to double-tag, double-tag in inconspicuous spots, like inside a pocket of an item that you never even took into a dressing room. If that changeroom you walked into had no hangers in it, don’t leave any. Grab stock from the back of a section rather than the front, or if you do that, face it forward: remember, a lot of LP will look at stock rather than customers, and if something it missing in an otherwise tidy area that you were in, it can look suss.
Work out how you work best
I prefer working alone. I probably have trust issues to the point where I don’t want to rely on anyone. Sleight of hand and bullshit are probably my best skills. I would prefer to take a little longer in a shop and be recognised, but also to be thought of as a bit of a weirdo rather than a suss lifter. And I treat every other person, camera, point of observation, etc, as a potential risk.
And that’s not necessarily going to be everyone’s best technique. A huge part of this is knowing your strengths and weaknesses, and basically maximising and minimising accordingly. Since we’re all different, we’re all going to have different ways of doing things that feel comfortable for us: the thing is that you’ve got to feel comfortable. If, say, you’re more of an in-out ninja type, you’re not going to feel as comfy talking to people. You need to work out what actually works for you, and resembles something close to normal.

on-floor concealing methods
first and foremost, always conceal in a blindspot! if there aren’t any natural ones, duck down to create one or, if you’re with a lifting buddy, have them stand between you and the camera.
♥ clothing rack
pick up an item and walk over to a clothing rack. go to a clothing rack and, with the same hand as the item, pretend to look through the clothes. as your hand is deep in the rack, either sleeve the item or drop it into your purse. this is a great, natural way to create a blindspot.
♥ double and sleeve
this is the most basic sleight-of-hand and is something every lifter needs to have in their tool belt. this works for long and small items, like lipgloss or mascara. grab two of the same item, hold them as if they’re one, and slide one into your sleeve. you can do this while swinging your arm to propel the item into your sleeve, or just put it subtly in with your fingers.
♥ drop
this works for bigger items. wedge several items between your elbow and ribs. “accidentally” drop one of them from your elbow into your bag as if you had too many items and one of them just fell into your bag accidentally.
♥ lightning conceal
this one is literally just putting something into your purse as quickly as possible. ONLY do this in a blindspot as it’s very obvious the intent is to steαl the item.
♥ starbucks cup
get an opaque coffee cup, cut an X into the bottom, and shove little items (concealer, lip gloss, mascara etc) into it. if you do it properly they shouldn’t fall you. you can also pad the cup.
♥ food bag
get a bag of food from the mall food court. eat some and leave some food in there. drop items into your bag. if you get sussed, you can eat food out of the bag. an alternative of this is to put a hole in the side of the bag and put items through the hole rather than just through the top of the bag.
♥ armpit
tuck something under your armpit and either walk out with it there or walk to a blindspot and lightning conceal.
♥ long skirt
wear tight spandex and, when squatting in front of a low shelf at sephora or ulta, push your skirt up slightly and slide a small item into it. pallettes may fit in the waistband. make sure you practice this at home to make sure they’re tight enough and nothing will fall out.
♥ phone
hold something small between your hand and your phone and then put your phone and item back into your purse like you’re only holding your phone.
