Happy Juneteenth! African-Americans were not "independent" on July 4, 1776. So today, we celebrate the day the supposed last group of slaves were finally freed in Texas two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. If you're of African-American descent, TODAY is your freedom day. One could argue it's really the day all Americans were free so it should be celebrated by all.
