I’ve seen so many posts about the souls in Six Hundred Strike, how they are shown to drown Odysseus but the fandom wants them to help instead.

And I have a personal take on this.

I think the souls in Six Hundred Strike are not real.

BEAR WITH ME.

The souls are supposed to sing their final thoughts/final moments from when they died, right? But they are all very NOT doing that!

Polites is singing a line from long before he died (you can relax my friend) plus it does not make sense for him to be thinking of that while he get smashed by the cyclops.

Eurylochus is singing a line WAYYYY before his death as well, it’s from the Circe saga (look at what we’ve lost and what we’ve learn).

And the rest of Odysseus’ drown men are not even singing their own line (waiting, waiting, waiting, ahhh).

So. My take is that, it’s all just Odysseus’ conscious speaking (I mean, he IS actively drowning at the moment). It’s all in his head and it’s not even real.

He’s head and body is telling him to just let go, but through the process he regains he’s will to live because DAMMIT HIS WIFE AND SON IS WAITING.

Therefore, the whole thing should not be about why are the souls not helping him/why is the song called six hundred strike if the drowned souls are not even fighting with Ody but about a mental struggle and fighting for the memories of the lost ones.
