Ramadan begins when the new crescent moon is first visible. In the US, this is predicted to be on April 2nd. Please support all the Muslims in your life at this time, including marginalized Muslims such as LGBTQ+ Muslims.

Allah did not aim to hurt or punish you by making you LGBTQ+. Today, many claim that being LGBTQ+ is haraam, but regardless of what others claim, we know that only Allah can judge. And Allah, most kind and most merciful, does not condemn us for being who we are. We have been told that Allah hates us and will condemn us to eternal suffering if we do not repent, but these words do not come from Allah - they come from misguided people.
Idk who needs to hear this but ;
"Your Lord has neither left you nor has He detested you."
~Al Qura'an (93:3)

(TW: Religion)
My dear lgbt+ kids,
This letter is for those of you who believe in God:
Gods love for you is not based on the opinions of the people around you.
Some people are hateful and cruel, tell you that you’re not worthy of love the way you are, are unwilling to accept you, your identity, relationships and decisions.
But God is not people. His love is unconditional. He wanted you, He adores you just the way you are.
You’re His beloved child - and while human parents can fail at their job, He doesn’t.
He carefully and lovingly created you, designed you with all the little things that make you you. That includes the gender you identify as, the gender(s) you feel attracted to. He is proud of you for growing into the person He meant you to be - and that person is lgbt+.
It’s true, God doesn’t make mistakes - You are not a mistake. You’re a beautifully crafted creation.
With all my love, Your Tumblr Dad

So often, Muslims tell me that being LGBTQ+ is haraam, and tell me to "read the book."
And yet, in the original, untranslated text of the Quran, there is no word for "homosexuality" or anything similar. Allah outlines for us clearly the laws we must obey, but nothing about being LGBTQ+ is condemned.

This quote is very true. Sometimes, people obscure the true meaning of religion, and use this to spread hate or gain power. Many Muslims condemn their LGBTQ+ siblings, even though that goes against Islam's teachings. Allah is with all of us - including those of us who are LGBTQ+.

You are not betraying Islam by being LGBTQ.
You are not betraying the LGBTQ+ community by being Muslim.
You are not dirty.
You are not a heretic.
You are not a traitor.
You are not broken.
You are you, and all parts of who you are deserve to be celebrated and loved.

"And he is with you where ever you are" - Qur'an 57:4
To me, this has always meant more than Allah being physically everywhere - it means that Allah is with you no matter where you are in life, regardless of where you are on your journey of faith. Allah does not leave any of us, even when we feel alone or when others condemn us.
LGBTQ+ Muslims are told that we are kafirs and that Allah disdains us, but that is not true. Allah is with us, and knows that we cannot change who we are.

Your faith journey is your own.
Being an LGBTQ+ Muslim does not mean that you are a kafir.
It means that you are embracing yourself and following your faith, even when the world tells you that doing both is impossible.

Note
You have to accept there ARE atleast a few people who are actually confused about their sexuality.
In reference to this post.
Yes, there certainly are people who are still questioning or confused about their sexuality and/or gender. These people are valid and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. What I meant was that a lot of times, LGBTQ+ people are told that they are not really queer, but they are just "confused" (I've been told that a lot). Or, people say that we are confused and cannot be both queer and Muslim. I apologize if this wasn't clear.

Desmond Tutu, an Anglican Bishop and Anti-Apartheid activist, consistently stood up for the rights of all human beings, including LGBTQ+ people.
His memory is a shining example of how religious leaders can and should advocate for racial equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and broader human rights.
As a queer person of color who is religious, he is an inspiration to me, and will be dearly missed.

If I follow you and then unfollow you a lot, it’s cause not you, I just have a really complicated relationship with religion so I jump around with it a lot. Sorry if I confuse you with it 😅
That is totally understandable! I think that many of us have a complicated relationship with religion.
Wishing you all the best,
Nahr

TW: I'm responding to some anti-LGBTQ+ messages in this post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of the above are comments from some of this blog's recent posts. I'd like to respond to them because communication opens the door to greater understanding.
Nowhere in the Qur'an does it state that being LGBTQ+ is haraam. In fact, the word "homosexuality" doesn't even appear in the original Qur'an. Many modern Muslim leaders have condemned the LGBTQ+ community as haraam, but the Prophet never said this. In truth, this condemnation is not a part of Islam's values, but rather a tool that some try to control or oppress others, which is the exact opposite of the religion's intent. We are not on a path towards eternal damnation anymore than a non-LGBTQ+ person is.
Also, to compare being LGBTQ+ to being a predator is completely unacceptable. People who are LGBTQ+ are being true to themselves without harming others - predators are extremely harmful and should be in prison. We are not at all the same. To hurt others, especially children, in such a way is fundamentally wrong, and is not supported by the LGBTQ+ community.
Being an LGBTQ+ Muslim does not make one a kafir. We believe that there is only one God and Muhammad is his prophet. Being LGBTQ+ does not erase our devotion to Allah or all that we do to uphold the lessons of the Qu'ran.
We have always been here. You may have been taught that we are evil - I certainly was - but we are not anymore condemned that you.
