Sometimes the girls talked for no other reason than talking. If Leyla had a bad memory, she’d forget half of the ideas they shared with one another because there were always so many. In a way, Casey was the teacher that Leyla pictured whenever she imagined an elementary school teacher. At first, it wasn’t who she ever thought she’d become either but it all worked out rather perfectly. “Oh that thing with Tate?” she clicked her fingers, suddenly remembering it and diverting the conversation to a whole new topic accidentally. “Do you think you guys will be ready soon? I’m super excited and I might have...on accident, said to Mia there’ll be a surprise soon and now she’s told about three other kids which means...everyone is expecting a surprise. But we could totally trick them and hand out some stickers like surprise! And then when you and Tate do the thing, Ha, real surprise!”

Leyla was born in New Jersey and for the first few years of her life it was just her and her mother. Things were quite ordinary apart from the love they had for one another. Leyla's mother didn't have much support with all other family members estranged so when she became ill, Leyla's new life began within the care system.
It was supposed to be temporary, Leyla treating her new home as a pit-stop until she could be with her mother again but every time she visited her in hospital, she seemed to be getting worse. Leyla was eleven when her mother passed but she was lucky that her foster family became a one constant in her life.
Another constant was Asha, who Leyla attached herself too undoubtedly. They both shared a desire of leaving the uneventful place they called home, with dreams as big as their hearts. It didn't take long for them to consider themselves sisters, and they reunited quickly after they both left the care system.
Leyla never knew what to do with her life, feeling lost and mostly floating through her decisions. Her earned scholarship for college was more stress than excitement as she feared she'd waste the opportunity with her indecisiveness. She ended up studying elementary education but still was not convinced if teaching was for her.
After college, Leyla and Asha decided to throw caution to the wind and embark on their first adventure together. Their road trip meandered all through the country and Leyla loved the freedom it gave her. They'd settle for a while until they both decided it felt like the time to leave. In the end though, money became their biggest hurdle.
It was only by chance that they ended up in Lockwood Springs three years ago but it's the longest they've ever stayed somewhere. An opportunity to become a classroom assistant seemed too good to pass up and it's the first time Leyla was able to put her education to use.
Lockwood Springs became home, both sisters sharing their apartment Downtown among a few childish arguments about borrowed clothes, but a lot of love for one another.
