Hardwood Flooring In Brand New Home Arlington Heights, IL
Are you thinking about installing hardwood flooring in your brand new home Arlington Heights, IL? There are a few different things you should consider when deciding on a hardwood floor.  This article will go over the considerations you need to make before purchasing a hardwood flooring system
 Finished Versus Unfinished
Finished hardwood flooring is advantageous in that once it’s installed it’s ready to be walked upon and used.  As it’s already sealed and sanded it allows for quick installation and immediate use. And you won’t have to worry about odors or volatile organic compounds that result from onsite finishing.
Unfinished hardwood, however, allows you to apply custom stains to match the rest of the room before applying the finishing coat.  The added advantage of finishing onsite is that the seams between the planks will be sealed thereby making them more water resistant and lowering the chances of widening seams.
 Engineered Versus Solid
Engineered hardwood is composed of a thin veneer of hardwood glued to multiple wood layers underneath. This creates a stable board that will resist warping and cupping, especially in places with high humidity or water use.
Solid hardwood, on the other hand, has a harder time resisting warping and cupping in humid areas such as basements or bathrooms.  However, the benefit of solid hardwood is that it can be sanded and refinished many more times than engineered hardwood with its thin veneer.
 Wood Types
Some of the more popular species of wood in hardwood floors are red oak, maple and cherry.  You can also find walnut, bamboo, mahogany and ash planks quite easily.  There are also rarer, more exotic species such as teak and mesquite, but you’ll end up paying more than for the domestic species.
