All my life, when I thought of my future, that was what I pictured. Not a career. The things I thought would come with it. Happiness, love, safety.

LITERATURE SERIES: Dystopia
“Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — for ever… And remember that it is for ever. The face will always be there to be stamped upon." ― George Orwell (1984)

when will ppl realise that “enemies to lovers” is when two ppl on two separate sides of an issue eventually come together through a common understanding IT IS NOT a man with no respect for a woman relentlessly wearing her down after multiple rejections until she eventually caves in as a result of an unhealthy sexist social norm that was drilled into her head her whole life

While visiting my parents I reorganised my childhood bookshelf! My dream is to buy a cute little cottage so I could combine these books in Ireland with the ones I have in France, and then have a mini library 🌈📚

I recognize that sound. It's the sound of holding on to a cliff by the edge of your nails. The sound of barely containing a pain so immense that to look at it, to raise your own flesh and examine what's beneath, is to risk falling into a darkness you know you'll never escape.

Not every story is about seeing yourself in it. Sometimes it’s about learning to see other people too.

i'm so glad that, as a reader in the age of social media, i've overcome this perceived need of Reading Only New Releases (or new-to-me books), and i'm able to 1. not give a fuck how many books i'm reading per month/year and 2. reread books completely without any guilt. i don't think i've read a 2022 release this year. in the past week, i've reread 2 books and i'm about to reread a 3rd. i've tackled completely different genres this year and i've let go of so many books i'm no longer interested in. and it's so incredibly liberating to be able to do this. i'm no longer interested in reading what is popular, i'm interested in reading only what i want and what feels good and what makes me happy.

Nina was twenty-five now. And that felt young to her because she was so much older than twenty-five in her soul. She had always had a hard time reconciling the facts of her life with the truth of it. Twenty-five but she felt forty. Married but she was alone. Childless and yet, hadn’t she raised children?

i dont think ill ever stop thinking about this part of the amber spyglass… like lyra being a protagonist who like every children’s fantasy protagonist just excels at this special thing that no one else can do and takes it for granted throughout the whole series and then right at the end when she needs it most she can’t do it anymore.. and this angel telling her that even if she ever gets that ability back it will never be easy or effortless again…. sometimes you grow up and you completely lose the physical and mental wellbeing you took for granted when you were a kid and every day is a struggle and philip pullman reaches out from the pages of his dark materials and grabs you by the neck and says HAVING TO WORK HARD FOR THINGS THAT OTHER PEOPLE TAKE FOR GRANTED DOESN’T MEAN YOU GET TO FEEL SORRY FOR YOURSELF AND IN FACT A LIFE FULL OF EFFORT WILL BE MORE MEANINGFUL TO YOU IN THE END EVEN IF IT ALSO FILLS YOU WITH GRIEF
