My name is Game and I want to make games with you! I want to talk about all aspects of game design, for all types of games. Table top, digital, card, dice, even skipping games.

This is what it looks like:
Guys, this is basically a rugby scrum, right?
Fun thing about football right now is that there's a move called the "brotherly shove" that the Eagles do when they're very close to scoring, where the whole team puts their hands on the ass of the guy with the ball and physically propels him over the line into the endzone for the touchdown, and all the other teams' fans hate it because it's got such a ridiculously high rate of success for the Eagles and doesn't really seem to work for any other team. People are straight-up calling for this move to be banned, claiming it's "unstoppable" and gives an "unfair advantage" but it really and truly is a skill issue. The whole league hates this move because it only makes the Eagles win more often and nobody else can figure out how to do it right

One day I hope there is a video game out there that doesn't directly punishes you for save scumming, but rather everyone around you are aware of it but as a haunting thing. Not like the Undertale way where Sans the Skeleton knows you were messing around with the .ini files, but internally when you quickload after gunning down an NPC with all you got, they go "Wow. It's as though I've felt that hell rained upon me. Fuck it. I quit the smokes" and you gain 50+ Polterguy points. It will make a million dollars day one

And the thing is... why put ads in games? It's not like the industry is struggling (the companies that is, not the workers, they are most certainly struggling). The biggest gaming companies are getting bigger and more profitable.
They don't need more revenue in order to survive, or even thrive. Digital games are the fastest growing and most economically valuable media in the world.
You probably can guess the answer. It's the endless search for exponential unceasing growth. Also greed.

Seriously, the industry is in need of a shake up. Unionise. I've been working on a concept for how residual payments would work for games. Games workers have been mistreated for too long, and the medium suffers for it.

it's such a great time to be making art of any kind

I am a solo indie dev trying to overcome my anxiety and actually let people know my game exists. It is a cute physics based game where you are the level.
I love making this game with passion and I am so excited to share it with the world, but somehow I need to let the world know. Unfortunately the way steam works is the more wishlists the more visibility, so if you are interested it is super appreciated :)

Gta V had the biggest map ever at the time of its release, and it's still huuuuge. But over the 11 years that game has been our they've made use of most of it. I think at the beginning it definitely felt immense beyond the scope of the game, and I definitely thought it was a waste of everything.
Most games don't get updated like gtav and don't need all the extra space.
i kind of want a discussion about the size of video game maps and why devs are concerned with making them increasingly large

I went to one of those VR places this week for a co-workers fairwell. You know the ones cropping up around the place, where they do escape rooms and such like. As the rest of the group had limited experience in VR we did 60 minutes of 4 mini-games. It was pretty fun!
I have to admit my expectations were pretty low. As a general rule, games in VR have been a bit lacking for my (admittedly somewhat refined) tastes - they tend to be a bit clunky and superficial, particularly when playing alone. But playing with 3 people and letting myself get in to the games was great! Having the bigger space was also really nice, towards the end all 4 of us were moving around the area and giving each other enough space to move.
We played a zombie horde mode game, a fast food restaurant game, a shoot the flying robots game and a shoot the fantasy themed goons with bow and arrows style game. All of them were fairly simple and welcoming to new comers to the forum, but very arcadey. They felt like double dragon type games you might play for 3 minutes at an arcade, those games capable at offering a fun but meaningless experience.
I would recommend it for an adult group wanting to try VR or maybe an escape room but there isn't one nearby.
I do think it highlight a few holes in the market - there seems to be few kid focused games available and few adult games with meaningful depth to them.
