Candyman Review (2021)
Well ladies and gentlemen, the time is finally here. After being delayed for over a year due to the vid (one of MANY movies to be delayed), we finally get the long awaited sequel to the 1992 classic, Candyman (1). Is it the sequel we've been waiting for almost 30 years or is it a bigger dud than the 2 sequels? Let's review. In keeping with the legacy, i'm gonna try and say its name less than 5 times lolPlot: After hearing the legend while on a walk to the now abandoned desolate town of Cabrini-Green, artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) unleashes paintings of the aformentioned Candyman (2), which awakens the spirit and unleashes havoc whenever his name is called in front of the mirror 5 timesGood: Let's start it off. I'm not a huge die hard fan of the original movie. I think it's a good movie, and i love Tony Todd's take of the character, but it's not a movie that i consider a masterpiece of modern horror. Having said that, I did enjoy the new movie. It was a refreshing treat to see a good sequel after the last 2 didn't continue the lore really good. Thankfully, producer Jordan Peele and director Nia DaCosta crafted a story that rightfully continues the lore and legacy of the character, while trying to be something fresh and new to the story. It's a worthy continuation and you can skip 2 and 3. DaCosta deserves the biggest praise of the movie. With her directing, she skillfully delivers the tension with certain scenes, with mirrors being used in an effective way, especially on 3 certain scenes, for which i won't spoil. She avoids using MTV style quick cuts and cheap jump scares, and i applaud her for it. Now that she's currently jumping to the MCU, i'm looking forward to her next projects. The acting from everyone is really good. Yahya Abdul-Manteen (Aquaman, Us) makes us feel sorry for him and hate him in certain scenes. Teyonah Parris (Wandavision, Chi-Raq) brings certain charm and emotion to her character when she needs. I especially like the cameos of certains characters from the original, which results in the movie's continutaion. The story, like i said, is a continuation of the original, while being fresh and not just a straight up rehash. I enjoyed the backstory of the new Candyman (3) character when telling the story using hand-string puppets. Speaking of which, when Candyman (4) appears, it's the same force of nature that was unleashed on the screens back in '92, although played by a different actor. The violence, while not over-the-top, is still graphic enough for viewers to interpret what happens. It leaves you mysterious and leaves it to your imagination. Last positive is the score by Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe. He brings a Phillip Glass-like score to the movie, especially bringing Helen's theme from the original, and updating it. His notes whenever the character appears feel eerie.Mixed: The character of William Burke, played by Colman Domingo (If Beale Street Could Talk, Fear The Walking Dead), started off great but his character took a different turn in the 3rd act, which didn't sit well with me. Certain scenes felt long, not needed, and out of place and they could've been taken out.Bad: While i enjoyed the first 2 acts of the movie, the 3rd act suffered from feeling rushed, considering the movie was only 90 minutes. I feel like if the movie was 10-20 minutes longer, the movie could've been alot better.Final word: While not as good as the original, the new Candyman (5) is leaps and bounds alot better than the last 2 lackluster sequels, thanks to a fresh story and DaCosta's skillfully tense directing. I'd recommend it, but, keep expectations minimal. But if you're a die hard fan of the original, then you'll most certainly enjoy the new movie. IMO, it is one of the better Barker adaptations since Midnight Meat Train.8.5/10P.S., I said his name 5 times in the review. I think I'm sa----------

Suicide Squad 2 Review
Well, the time is here! After 5 years has passed, the suicide squad team is back for an all new adventure, albeit without a few characters, but with all new characters involved. Let's talk about The Suicide Squad:Plot: Supervillains Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and a collection of nutty cons at Belle Reve prison join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X as they are dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. In 2016, David Ayers gave us the first Suicide Squad, which is DC's version of Guardians Of The Galaxy. In that movie, you have Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flagg, and others working together to take down bad guys. When it was released, reviews were negative but made over $746 million worldwide, so a sequel was very likely. 5 years later, David's out, and the studio brings in James Gunn (Guardians Of The Galaxy) to take over. Can James bring the same magic to this movie like he did with Guardians? Let's talk about itFirst off, wether you like or hated Suicide Squad, this movie is much better. The action is well directed. The cast is extraordinary in bringing the character to life. Let's get this out of the way. King Shark, Ratcatcher 2, and Polka-Dot Man were the best parts of the movie. And for an R rated comic book movie, there was considerable amounts of graphic violence and gore. And it was good comic book carnage mayhem. Props to WB for giving James Gunn complete freedom to let him make his vision of his film. The way he brings the characters on the screen and they bring the realism and emotions bring out the best in these characters.Story was a mixed bag though. Pacing did move slow at times. Now while i did praise WB for givng James complete freedom, i feel like they could've told him to dial it a back on certain scenes or moments. Alot of the jokes were good, while others weren't as funny as i'd like it to be. Soundtrack was good, but, nothing energetic of memorable like in Guardians. The other mixed criticism is Harley Quinn. While i love seeing Margot Robbie return as Quinn, and she is the perfect actress to play her, i felt like certian scenes with her in it could've been taken out, they were some of the scene that did drag a bit. Final mixed criticism are the villains. I enjoy seeing Starro but it wasn't utilized alot in the movie. Plus General Suarez and The Thinker weren't really meancing or villainous enoughBiggest negative i'm gonna give, and this is not really a spoiler, but the opening scene introduces new characters and immediately get wiped out (won't say who cause i don't like spoiling anything to anyone) and most of them were featured prominently in the trailers. All in all, this was an enjoyable movie with good moments of characters and action. Definitely better than Suicide Squad 1, but far from the best comic book movie of all time. If you wanna see a James Gunn masterpiece, watch the first Guardians instead. But other than that, you'll have a good time watching it. And i wouldn't mind another movie with them again. And i like to be a part of the movement as well when i say#RELEASETHEFUCKINGAYERSCUT
