Experimental Film Blog 6
Finally, during the post-production process, I wanted the entire film to present a dreamy style, showing the beauty of spring and plants. But as I was making them, I discovered that these plants withered and withered quickly, which gave me a quiet sense of sadness. So, during editing, I wanted to show that everything revived in spring and plants began to grow. I used scanned pictures of plants and superimposed some texture patterns I drew to represent the growth process of plants. The focus was on showing their details and patterns in line with the rhythm of music. Texture. I first classified them according to color, showing the characteristics of green plants, purple flowers, and red flowers, and then showed the excessive growth of plants in the order from freshness to decay. The design that matches the rhythm of the music and sound effects highlights the final theme: The fallen petals, in return, will transform into the soil to nourish the flower in spring.

After gluing and painting the plants, I learned to transcribe the film into a digital piece. First, I used the more commonly used method to put the sorted films on the editing equipment for editing and collage. Then I wound them around, put them on the film projector, adjusted the camera parameters, and started recording. I recorded the film with the plants and the film with the pattern. I recorded four videos in total. However, because the projector couldn’t record the texture and color of the plants very clearly, I learned how to use a scanner to scan. The teacher taught me how to use the scanner and software, cut the film and put it on the scanner. I scanned five strips of film each time. I used a relatively high resolution during the scanning process to facilitate later use of PS and PR. The scanned images record the texture and color of the plants very well, with many details clearly visible.

After finishing the pasting of the plants, I made other paintings on the film. I wanted to use some patterns and colors to represent spring, streams, flowers, trees, etc., so I went to the art supply store in Newtown and bought other materials, such as watercolor paints. , glitter, colored glue and different colored inks, etc. Then I went to the classroom to paint on the film with various paints. Through my previous painting experience, I found that using more translucent materials on the film would be better, so I tried my best to choose colored pens, Colored glue and ink. I drew designs of many different types of flowers on film with watercolor pencils and gouache paints. According to my idea of pasting plants, I also made distinctions based on the same color and different textures during the painting process. Because the pasted materials are relatively limited, I hope to use paint to create more patterns representing spring so that I can choose when editing.

The most crucial step in my production process is collecting plants, cutting them out and pasting them on film. I went to many places to collect plants and flowers of different colors and shapes. I choose each plant or flower as small or thin as possible so that it is easier to cut and paste. I chose a few principal colors: green, purple, red, white, yellow, pink, etc. In addition, I also purchased small tweezers, small scissors, glue and other tools for pasting the petals. After completing the collection, I went to the classroom to make it.  During the production process, I first cut the plants into different shapes according to their different sizes, matching the size of the film and the suitable shape. I flattened and glued some of the smaller plants whole. I made some with random combinations of different petals and colors and some with different types of the same color.

Experimental Film Blog 2
After preliminary observation and research, I looked up some image references and determined my image style. First, I needed to create a colorful world, so I wanted to use many plants of different colors. Secondly, I wanted to reflect that It has a natural feel, so I collected fresh plants and pasted them on film. Finally, I wanted to create a dreamy effect to add some effects during post-production. I watched a lot of GUCCI ads and Stan Brakhage's works, of which The Garden of Earthly Delights is a good reference. The film was partly inspired by Hieronymus Bosch's painting of the same name. It was created without a camera by pasting mountain vegetation like flower petals, grass and leaves onto a transparent strip. Stan Brakhage wanted the film to pay homage to Hieronymus Bosch. I really like the of the plants shown in this film, I will borrow some of his production techniques and ideas.

Experimental Film Blog 1
When I was thinking about the theme of my project, I found that spring in Sydney has arrived. This is my first spring in Sydney. I found many beautiful plants that differed from those in China, so I recorded them visually. I named my project Dream Garden because I hope people living in the city find their dream garden in their busy moments, just like a pure land in their hearts. After that, I carefully observed the plants and flowers around me, and I found every flower has its language and every plant grows carefully. We often rush by in our busy lives and fail to appreciate their beauty. The wind is constant, the flowers are faithful, and the world will not be barren for those who have flowers in their hearts. Plants’ hidden language and breath are worth recording and will nourish us. The beauty of flowers and the softness of leaves are gifts from nature. In that case, I will collect and paste various flowers and leaves on film in this work.
