Sorry if this is weird but I was looking at your tags for that fandom post and I hard agree. A lot of fiction for nandermo relies on my suspension of disbelief to enjoy because realistically I still think it’s going to be a while before Nandor realizes how much he loves Guillermo and a while before Guillermo accepts that’s why he still hanging around. The back and forth between them whether they’re smooching in that lair or not, it’s probably insufferable for their housemates. In my headcanon any declaration of love has to be painfully forced out of Nandor and Guillermo is willing to play the long game but not without a fight. To ignore how manipulative Guillermo can be for his own gain is a crime. His clothes aren’t the only thing with many layers.
Also, for what it’s worth I read a lot of your stories before I made the connection that I was following you on Tumblr and I quite enjoy them 🤣
His clothes aren't the only thing with many layers — you are spilling pure wisdom oh my god this is fantastic.
also this message is not weird, you're good!
I think so much of their appeal is rooted in what they are not willing to say. That's where all of the compelling tension lies, poking around what is not said out loud while being able to know each other intimately even if it's dysfunctional (and even especially because of that dysfunction).
Thank you for being so lovely btw and reading my silly little stories! I have a lot of fun with them lmao. I am glad that you found me here too :)

The way Guillermo looks at Nandor like he's the only person on earth is something that can be so personal.

Periodic rent-lowering-gunshots:
Fiction is not reality.
You can enjoy things in fiction that would be awful in the real world. Like playing a murderhobo in a game! In the real world, being or supporting a murderer-thief would be pretty damn awful, while in the game it's just good fun. Same with anything else you choose to do with the pixels on the screen, like kinks that don't affect anyone real, so they're okay in fiction, but would be pretty damn bad in real life.
No one else is responsible for your online experience. They are required not to harass you, but they are not and never will be obligated to not post about ships, kinks, or tropes you dislike just to avoid you seeing them. It's up to you to blacklist words or phrases, block tags, or even block users as needed to avoid seeing content that upsets you.
No one can force you to read anything against your consent. Any content you don't like seeing can be instantly avoided by closing out of the offending post/fic.
You are not owed an online experience free of discomfort.
Nothing that happens in your imagination can ever make you a bad person. Words you write or read about fictional characters will never make you a bad person.
The claim that media consumption influences real-life behavior is intellectually dishonest and serves only to excuse the behavior of real offenders.
Fiction is a safe way to explore horrifying or confusing concepts. Therapists agree that fiction, even (or especially) about taboo topics is a good coping mechanism, especially, but not exclusively, for trauma survivors. Fiction is to adults what play therapy is to children. This doesn't stop being true if the work in question is of a sexual nature.
Sex isn't an inherently worse or better motivation than anything else. A work written to create feelings of arousal isn't dirty, shameful, or in any way less pure than works written to entertain, provoke moral questions, or for other reasons. And worth noting is that multiple purposes can exist in the same story, especially fanfiction.
You aren't entitled to an explanation for why someone reads, writes, or otherwise enjoys certain works, kinks, tropes, ships, etc.

tfw "popular" fanon becomes so embedded in a fandom & discussions within fandom spaces that people just start treating it as the default and all interactions with others are coloured by this interpretation. have you considered that I actually don't subscribe to this take, which is nowhere in the source material? wait nvm, clearly not.

The more I think about it, the more I think Nandor only ever wanted to be human the same way he wanted The Guide the same way he wanted an army the same way he wanted Gail the same way he wanted to get married the same way he wanted super slumber. He keeps looking for something, some Big Change, and if he could only find that big change and conquer it, it would give him meaning and a sense of purpose. It would make him happy
Which is why I think it’s so telling that the one time a big change did happen to him, it was Guillermo becoming a vampire. And once he saw that it wasn’t making Guillermo happy, he took it upon himself to fix it
Because while Nandor keeps insisting he wants something different, he wants a change — to be human, to get married, to sleep forever — but what he actually wants is connection, and Guillermo is his primary source of that.
And by the end of season six it feels like Nandor has finally realized that to some level. Even his quest for the Guide doesn’t feel as demanding of instant gratification as his past pursuits do, because some part of him has settled. Some part of him is happy now, to the point where he’s now shifted to focusing also on the things that make Guillermo happy (albeit in a very self-centered, Nandor way that involves threatening Guillermo’s boss, proposed dynamic duo shenanigans involving capes that Guillermo mentioned one time, and building a secret clubhouse for the two of them).
I don’t have anything insightful to add to that. I just think it’s sweet. We’ve gone from Nandor being too ashamed/uncomfortable to admit that Guillermo is his friend (s1e4) to him openly saying it and admitting he wants Guillermo to be included in their family, regardless of the fact that he’s not even a vampire and will possibly never again choose to become a vampire.
One of the things that was arguably holding Nandor back from allowing himself to admit he cares, and the one thing that Guillermo believed would bring him acceptance into the family. And in the end Nandor still allows himself to admit he cares, and Guillermo is still accepted into the family.
Neither of them got what they said they wanted, but in the end they both got what they needed
It’s just sweet, that’s all
