Hey there, long time no post!

I actually finished this piece a little while ago but I kind of forgot about it with my last uni course and life happening haha 😅 but since I've been replaying botw the last few weeks and with totk just around the corner I thought now was a nice time to share it with you all! ☺️

~(also I definitely am very normal about totk and absolutely not in any financial debt at all because of the collectors edition and OLED)~

I know it’s been like six years but I’m still so annoyed at Zelda’s emotional resolution at the end of botw. Forced her entire life to train to hear the voice of Hylia and unlock powers she’s been told are her birthright, constantly yelled at by her father for not unlocking them fast enough, followed around the entire kingdom by a guy who was hand-picked by the Goddess and wholeheartedly buys into his own destiny, and the only time Hylia ever flows through her is to protect Link ONCE before she’s trapped for a whole century inside the castle keeping Ganon contained. And then Hylia leaves her entirely once he’s defeated. Idk I’d be pretty mad about those series of events! 

It’s not like skepticism or atheism are really on the table for Zelda either, there is concrete proof of Hylia’s power all around her, but for whatever reason Hylia has no time for her specifically; she only comes to Zelda in the final hour, only doing the bear minimum, consigning her to a fate worse than death for a hundred years before withdrawing from Zelda permanently. Which is in direct contrast to Link, a guy whose faith is consistently rewarded and reinforced. They both face overwhelming odds and hardship and loss and grief but there’s a clear difference in their relationships to the Goddess. And so Zelda is forced to blame herself, because it’s clear that the problem is her as an individual, but from that self-blame is (imo) a clear path to a broader resentment and rage towards Hylia, because it’s not like Zelda wasn’t holding up her end of the bargain, it wasn’t like she wasn’t trying hard enough. For me the ideal post-botw Zelda is someone who hates Hylia, who curses her openly, who spits on goddess statues whenever she comes across them

and if so, do you have an opinion on The State and Revolution?

It’s intentionally referencing him yeah! I read state and rev a couple years ago and don’t have particularly intelligent or interesting thoughts on it aside from the fact that it helped to inform my marxism. in fact I’ve read very little of lenin’s work, although I’m aware of his core ideas (especially re: capitalism’s relationship to imperialism) from other marxist work. I intend to read more of his stuff I just haven’t gotten around to it yet lol
