I’m getting married today after work!

(I really meant to post abt this sooner but @-@ this month has been a lot (my boss did end up changing his mind so I do still have a job -more on that later))

Very few people who know us have been surprised that we’re getting married, which is funny, I really thought I was going to have to explain the concept of “romantic friendship” to more people, but so far, no!

We were going to get married a year from now, buuuuut. Then the election went the way it did and we decided sooner was better than later.

Anyways I am excited, even tho, like. This I not really going to change anything in our day to day lives, we’ve lived together almost five years and we already call each other “wife” (mostly for humor but also for queer joy)

We’ll celebrate properly sometime next year; today is just getting it done

So uh….

I was fired today? Sort of? I’m. Still processing.

It was my annual review, and they basically said everything was good, except my punctuality and attendance, which I acknowledge need work, but are heavily affected by my disability- mostly the autism but also the ADHD. And I didn’t want to lie so I was like, look, this has been a lifelong issue, I promise I want to be on time, I have 4+ alarms, I am doing everything I can to try to improve but like.. this isn’t new, and it’s unlikely I can be completely rid of it. He was like, it’s a disability (but like not a statement not a question) and I said yes, it is, and he said “I don’t want to call it a disability”

And he (the boss) was hemming and hawing, kind of beating around the bush about how maybe I would be a better fit somewhere else, where I wouldn’t need to talk to people, and sometimes we have to let go, and I couldn’t tell what he wanted from me so eventually I just asked “to clarify, are you letting me go?” And he paused for a long minute and then said yes.

And the office manager was in there too and she was clearly surprised and when he left the room she said she wasn’t expecting it to go that way and she would talk to him and the rest of the team and like. ???? She said she was so sorry

My friend in the lab, who used to be the lab manager until Dr. P (the boss) decided to take over it from her, she was like “this is bullshit, I’m so sorry, I’m going to talk to him, but he gets really set in things when he’s decided them so don’t hope for too much” and she brought up that literally everyone in the lab struggles with punctuality and

Uh it kind of feels like he’s letting me go because I’m disabled. Like specifically bc I’m autistic and don’t really do socializing.

Um. I don’t know what’s happening, bc this was clearly an impulse decision on his part and I don’t think anyone else in the office is going to agree with this? Like he’s the boss so what can they do, really, but.

I’m not sure he understands how much work I do, either… I think he just doesn’t like that I’m not social

So anyway my week has really sucked!
