it's literally half past one in the morning here and instead of getting sleep like a responsible human being, i'm just literally sobbing over your and rusty's heartbreakingly gorgeous art and fic
Saito and Cobb! Sobbing is the only correct response!
Also, thank you! Collaboration is my favorite aspect of fandom and Rusty was a pleasure to work with and made my dreams some true. I thought I was ten years too late to get any love for this rare/pair even though they are the main characters/main love arc imo. But the glory of fandom is be the change you want to see in the world!

I grew up in citrus farming country, and had orange and lemon trees. And I saw a post today about how people in the US have gotten so used to everything being always availible that when they walk into a grocery store in January to buy a lemon, they expect the lemon to be there, and they never even consider how unnatural it is that we have lemons in January.
And this is so completely not the point of that post, which is why I'm making my own post, but this example really really bothers me, because as I said I grew up in citrus country, and citrus are winter fruits, and January is lemon season.
Which ultimately goes to prove the point of that post, that we are so used to this kind of constant availability, that most people don't even know what season is lemon season.

I recently got the strangest comment ever on a fic. I'm working on a multi part series of single chapter fics. I only write when im inspired so it can take a while but it's something I intend to continue and so there hasn't been an "ending" to the story.
The comment started with "No, I refuse to let it end like this..." and they poceeded to post a multiparagraph "continuation" of my story as a comment on the latest installment. It's so off from both my story and characterization that it doesn't even feel like it was actually inspired by it. I'm sort of flattered but mostly very uncomfortable that they used my comment section to post their own work.
Comments are like gold and I don't want to come across as mean when someone clearly enjoyed my work, but I'm pretty upset about this and feel like I should say something, especially since I'm planning on continuing the story they took it upon themselves to "finish".
How do you think I should approach this?
Thank you♡
How nice do you want to be to this person?
Authors on AO3 have control of their comments. You can choose to leave it up or delete it. You can choose to reply to it or ignore it. If you're not comfortable having it there, you are totally able to remove it and never think about it again.
If you want to be nicer than that, maybe reply back and suggest they post it as a oneshot of their own and use the Inspired by option? Or just respond that you appreciate how passionate they are about your story and you hope they aren't too disappointed that you're going in a different direction.
What do the rest of you think? If you're an author - how would you respond? If you're a reader/commenter - what would you like to get back from the author (if anything)?

What if Saito and Cobb made rice balls??
Anybody remember that one time Ken Watanabe shared homemade onigiri with Leonardo Dicaprio on set during the snowy mountain scenes??
“I’ve shared the onigiri that I make with my fellow cast-mates in the past. When I was doing Inception, I was up on a cold mountain with Leonardo Dicaprio and Cillian Murphy for some time and while we were waiting there, freezing, I said, “I got some rice balls (here in my pocket), you guys want any?.” So I gave them the ones with umeboshi in them and they went, “This is DELICIOUS!” and ate them all up.”
After I read that I OBVIOUSLY wondered WHAT IF Saito and Cobb made rice balls?? Be the change you want to see in the world, my friends. Make ALL of the CRACK.

Inception Reverse Bang 2021 coming soon!
We are happy to announce that Inception Reverse Bang is coming back in Fall 2021!
A Reverse Bang is a fandom event where artists and writers create a joint project. Art is created first and then an accompanying story is written, inspired by that art piece. And this one is for our very much beloved ‘Inception’.
The event spans Autumn 2021. Sign-ups open September 10, artists start working from mid-September and writers start in late October with the collective reveal date on Dec 2.
Come join us, we’d love to see you there! If you have any questions send us an ask or email at [email protected]
Rules, FAQ and Detailed Timeline below the cut:
Welcome to the Inception Reverse Bang! For updates, follow this blog. What is a Reverse Bang?
Schedule:
September 10-13: Sign-ups
October 23: Artists' work DUE
October 24: Artworks collection is shared with authors & art claims
October 27: Assignments are emailed and Author & Artist pairings revealed
November 29: Writers' work DUE
Dec 2: Reveal Day. Ao3 collection reveal, Art public posting day.
Rules and FAQ:
For Everyone:
Please answer the check-in emails and don’t hesitate to tell us if you meet any bumps on the road! Not replying to check-in emails entirely means we’ll assume you’ve dropped out and/or are stuck in limbo with no hope of rescue.
Note that until the joint fic+art reveal day all works are secret! Please, refrain from public posting or discussing before the Big Date! Mind heists to steal ideas and see art or stories before the reveal are absolutely forbidden.
Participants are welcome to sign up as both an artist and an author, but cannot claim their own work. Multi-tasking is fine, but don’t bite off more than you can chew. There’s a reason that Extractor, Point Man, and Architect are all different roles on the team.
For Artists:
After sign-ups close you may start working on your pieces!
All creations must be new and unpublished, and all types of art are welcome.
There’ll be two check-ins for artists: 1st Artist check-in: October 2, 2nd Artist check-in: October 18.
On October 23 (artist's due date) artists post finished work on Tumblr privately and send us the art URL.
Don’t forget to add possible relevant tags, ratings and no-goes for the story.
For Writers:
After sign-ups close, authors can take a breather! Your part starts October 24 when the artworks are shared with you for claims.
After the pairings are announced you may start working on your stories.
All fics must be new and unpublished.
Minimum word count - 1500 words. For multi-chaptered stories: The first chapter can be posted on the release day with the rest of the story added later.
There’ll be two writer check-ins: 1st Writer check-in: November 10, 2nd Writer check-in: November 22.
Claims:
There’ll be one round of claims on a ‘first come - first served’’ basis.
Each art piece might be claimed by two (or more) authors depending on how many sign-ups we have! Every artwork will be claimed by at least one author.
Artist/Author assignments will be announced via email to participants on October 27
FAQ:
What exactly is a Reverse Bang?
A Reverse Bang is an event in which an artist creates a work of art and an author claims it to create a fic inspired by the art.
Do I have to join DW/Discord/Tumblr/Other to participate?
Short answer - no. The only place you *need* to have an account is AO3 for authors for publishing purposes (let us know if we can help with that). We use multiple platforms for the bang and we ask for usernames just to help partners get in touch with each other (though it is up to the two of you to work out how you will communicate). Mods will always contact you via email (in addition to blog posts).
Can I be a pinch hitter or a beta?
We’d love to have you! Head on over to our sign up form and let us know.
Can two people work on a fic?
Yes, we allow collaborations between authors so long as everyone signs up officially.
How many pieces of art can we submit?
We recommend pacing yourselves but will happily accept up to two pieces of artwork.
Can the story be a sequel to a story?
Yes, but we ask that the story be able to stand on its own, in other words, the readers will not have to read the other story/stories to be able to understand what is going on in this installment.
Can I use a work created for commission/auction/patreon reward etc for this event?
We do ask that you do not tie your Reverse Bang fic in with any of the above. While we are supportive of people trying to help or to make money, we are being hosted by AO3 and we must be careful in regards to the legality of money changing hands for these works.
What characters/pairings are allowed?
All characters from the movie, all ships, and gen and poly relationships are welcome.
What is art?
Art is pretty subjective, we’re happy to accept: traditional and digital art, manips, videos, comics, and moodboards. Just ask if what you’re planning isn’t listed.
Contact info:
If you have any questions feel free to send an ask, message us here or you can email us at [email protected]

“I don’t claim to be a scientist, but I wonder if when we spent all that time together, connected neurally, parts of ourselves were left behind in each other. It sounds too impossible to be true, but as I write this, I am staring at your face in the mirror right now.
Cobb runs a finger over the handwriting that isn’t his, exhaling softly. I hope we find some way to contact each other soon.

NASH MY BELOVED <3
Day 01: Your favourite character! @inception30daychallenge
I know I’m days late, and I’m stretching this prompt because I don’t have just one favourite character, but ~of~ my faves who needs more love other than NASH!?!! I have read the manifesto by @flosculatory and have been converted and am a true believer. I’m currently having trouble tagging @iamanonniemouse but You Know What You Did! I love Nash and his eidetic memory and his human flaws. And Lukas Haas is an underrated actor! (Inception, Brick(!!!), The Revenant, Widows, Gardener of Eden) Anyway, as usual, this piece was made with Graphite, India Ink, and Photoshop! Happy Inceptiversary, ALL!! (Thank you for cheerleading, Whirl! @noitsnacktime)

Announcing Inception Art Forgery Camp 2021
This year on July 1st Inception Art Forgery Camp is launched! Try it out what it’s like to be a forger creating Inception-related art that brazenly imitates various styles and eras from the prompt list.
A famous painting with Inception characters inserted or your favorite scene from the movie stylized in Vaporwave, Yusuf’s portrait by Caravaggio, Cobb chasing an elephant on a Stone Age cave wall, Art Deco designer totems - anything goes! Some mediums are thrown in too for pure fun. Post your forgery on tumblr (or if on another platform - drop us a link) and tag @inceptionart
When:
The Camp is a no sign-up and all-accessible.
Posting begins: July 1st
Posting ends: Sept 5th (as long as it’s anywhere in the world).
You can take up as many prompts as you wish and go at any comfortable pace (daily or random) within the set timeframe.
Types of art accepted:
The main goal of the event is to provide an opportunity to stretch creative muscles, try out new things, styles, and mediums. Something one is pretty comfortable with or has never done before. So every type and any stage of finishing is accepted: digital, traditional, photo edits, aesthetics, etc. Concepts, linearts, sketches, doodles - yes, absolutely.
This prompt Google Doc expands on the prompts a bit. Artists and works mentioned there are mere examples for visual guidelines, inspiration and clarity. You can stick to them or use any other inspiration sources in line with the prompt.
Comments or questions? Drop us a message at @inceptionart or [email protected]

Joe moved to pull the brim of his backwards hat off, and Nicky cleared his throat, making Joe’s eyes jump back up to him. “You should leave it on,” Nicky said, voice deeper, with a tone of authority. “And take the rest off.”
