ashley was resting on her hip and clarence was holding her hand as she looked around the ice cream parlor. there was no table free and so she walked up to someone sitting alone. she wasn’t the most sociable person, but she wanted to eat an ice cream with her children and so, she would have to ask to join someone. “excuse me, do you mind if we join you? i can’t find a space anywhere in here.” she said, apologetically.

meadow was inside the local boutique, looking at the jewelry that was on display. she looked at a silver bracelet and pondered if it would look good on her girlfriend’s wrist. who was she kidding, everything looked amazing on the younger woman. was it too much? it did cost quite a bit. would it put pressure on the younger woman? would she find it over the top? or was she overthinking. she was definitely overthinking. she wasn’t sure what to do. had she been standing here, staring for too long now? did she look weird?

Swear I'm gonna hold your head up Swear I'm gonna break your fall Swear we're gonna last forever Baby, this is all I want

MADCHEN AMICK. 47. SHE/HER. – Is that BEGGING by DUA LIPA playing? That means MEADOW DRAKE is around. She has been in Leighton for FORTY YEARS and currently works as a HOUSEWIFE/VOLUNTEER. I heard that they are GENEROUS and SECRETIVE which makes sense since they are known as the CARETAKER around town. WRITTEN BY RED (20 YEARS OLD)
here we go with my second characters, my old bean meadow
on the 16th of august 1969, two teenagers met in bethel, new york city where the now legendary woodstock festival was in full swing. they created a child there, meadow’s older brother cedar.
a year later, in 1971, meadow was born. her parents never got married, as they kept on practicing their belief of free love. john and rachel were her parents, but they had a big group of friends who raised her as well.
her childhood was an odd one. even when the hippie culture wasn’t very prominent anymore, her parents kept practising it. they never changed and meadow loves them for it, but she was picked on quite a bit growing up because of her odd commune like family.
while her brother took to their parents’ lifestyle, meadow didn’t. she just didn’t think that it was the life for her at all.
she dreamed of having a normal life. she was tired of being ‘special’ and so, when she noticed that she was attracted to girls - she pushed it down so far that for years, it didn’t exist.
she got married right out of high school, as she found out she was pregnant when she was seventeen.
they named their son kennedy
her parents weren’t judgemental about it and said that they’d take care of their son while she went to get a degree.
she got a degree in astronomy and physics
she fell pregnant at the end of her degree and gave birth to a little girl right after graduation.
they named their daughter danika
she never used her degree. her husband’s career was taking off and he put in a lot of hours. she stayed home and took care of her two little children. she loved them and she loved making sure their small home looked tidy and neat. she enjoyed it.
for quite a few years; meadow was quite happy with her husband, kennedy and danika. they were a happy family, but then her husband became a general manager.
he became a general manager at home as well. suddenly became very particular about money, how everyone was dressed, moved them into a better home... all without consulting her. on top of that, their romantic life was pretty meager. she knows that it is mostly because of her. she just always missed something with him. deep down, she knew what it was but she couldn’t admit it to herself.
her children grew up and when they were teenagers, she started volunteering in the local schools, daycare, the carehome not too far from the town... mostly to keep herself occupied and give herself some breathing room.
her marriage deteriorated after the children left home, as it was just them two together. her husband tried, but she resented him for being quite controlling and not only that, but her feelings from long ago started to surface again. she was nearing the middle of her lifetime, if she hadn’t already passed it and she’d always been living for other people: for her elderly parents, her husband, her children... but never really for her.
that is when she got close to her. a younger woman. someone closer to her son’s age than her own. she tried to fight it still, feeling that her attration was inappropriate... but ultimately, the other woman told her that she had feelings for her and years of pent up want and need came pouring out in their first kiss. it made her head spin and her knees buckle and it was everything that those mushy love songs were about. she’d never gotten it until then.
they’ve been having an affair for a year and it has been beautiful but she knew that she was going to lose her if she kept on hiding it. so, she told her husband that she wanted a divorce. she didn’t tell him the real reason, she just said that she wasn’t happy anymore and hadn’t been for years. he had been devastated, he still is as it is quite recent but he agreed. if that is what she wanted, he wasn’t going to make it more difficult. she currently still lives at home with her husband, but it really isn’t a healthy environment.
her daughter has just moved back home after being away for quite a few years and meadow hated that she had to make her life more unstable but she had to tell her that her and her husband were getting a divorce. she couldn’t lie to her. she hasn’t told her why though.
around town, she is known as the caretaker. she picks up drunk people if they call her for a ride, always opens up her home to people who need her, volunteers at the church and at various establishments around town, looks after people’s kids if they need it... basically if you need help, she is there for her. caring gives her purpose, she’s good at it and it makes her feel like her life isn’t wasted.
future explorations: internalized homophobia, coming out as an older woman, divorce, age gap relationship, entering the work force at an older age

mlo-whtmn:
What a boring day at the bowling alley. Milo had been standing around for hours waiting for someone to come in and rent a lane but there just was no luck for the boy. So, after being bored enough the boy did what he was used to doing on his free time. Broom in hand and ear phones in he had gotten so lost in the music he was dancing with the broom (at least he was still technically working). He only stopped on his tracks when he noticed a set of eyes on him sending a hot blush to his cheeks. “How… much of that did you see?”
Tumblr media
with clarence’s little hand in hers, they made their way into the bowling alley. she’d promised clarence that they could do something together, just the two of them and he said that he wanted to go bowling. his best friend in school had told him about going for the first time and now, he wanted to go as well. holland was excited to teach her son and to spend one on one time while ashley stayed home with her wife. she entered the main hall and her and clarence saw milo dancing. her son’s giggle warmed her heart and she couldn’t help but laugh at both the scene and her son’s amusement. she chuckled at milo and waved her hand. “don’t worry. clarence quite enjoyed your performance and honestly, those hip movements even gave me a tingle.” she said with a hearty laugh. she wasn’t one to use innuendo in her humor, usually and especially not involving her sexuality, which she still tried to ignore as much as she could. however, she was feeling quite good today. everything was going well and she felt a little more outgoing than usual. “so, my son wants to learn how to bowl. i am not the best at it. care to help us out?” she wondered.

MINKA KELLY. 35. SHE/HER. – Is that GIVE ME THE SIMPLE LIFE by JULIE LONDON playing? That means HOLLAND AYERS is around. She has been in Leighton for THIRTY-FIVE YEARS and currently is THE OWNER OF THE ATTIC ADDICT. I heard that they are DEDICATED and INFLEXIBLE which makes sense since they are known as the COLLECTOR around town.  WRITTEN BY RED (20 YEARS OLD)
let me tell you about this boring person m’kay
this is holland ayers
she is the oldest of seven children, the daughter of a writer and an artist and honestly, she couldn’t be more unlike them if she tried
she is pretty much the least creative person in the world
cannot draw a straight line tbh
she has always been a goodie two shoes and quiet
has had a coin collection since she was six
used to work in the attic addict since she was twelve, as it was owned by her grandmother
inherited it when she was eighteen and grandmother died :(
renamed it attic addict as she thought that was ‘hipper’
she didn’t like partying all too much (read: hated it)
unless her high school best friend/crush was there who is now her wife
the only rebellious thing she’s ever done is come out of the closet when she was sixteen
two years later, she was already married to her wife
they have a five year old son, named clarance who is biologically holland’s
they are currently fostering a little girl named ashley who is one
her wife is seven months pregnant with their third child
loves anything vintage, old and with history
gets excited over museums
has her ideas about how things should go and isn’t very flexible, can be quite controlling, possessive... but honestly it’s just because she wants everything to be okay for everyone
once you’re in her heart, you cannot get out of it
honestly, her life is just the thrift store, her wife, her children and her family
and a few friends
that’s pretty much it???
like i said, she is boring.
