CONFESSION TIME:
I have a secret that has been kept hidden for while. People of New York, I’m a LEGO fan. Before the Internet breaks, I want you to know that recently I've rediscovered an interest in Lego as an adult. It all started the moment I bought Star Wars UCS (Ultimate Collector's Series) R2D2. From then on, I continue to make frequent visit to Lego store near my work every day.
Each time I walk in the store, I began to relapse to my younger self when I was surrounded by an assortment of vibrantly colored bricks. By reconnecting with a key piece from my childhood, my stress levels has drastically dropped and I have found that I’m happier and calmer in my life, thanks to these colorful bricks. In addition, I’ve managed to quit smoking due and get back to my roots of collecting and creating Lego masterpiece one Star Wars set at a time, and now I'm at the stage where I may need to buy a larger display shelf.
However, I wanted to share my joy with other, but felt rather embarrassed about the fact that I might be the only adult Lego fan in New York City. When my friends wanted to talk about what’s happening in the world or which bar they were going to this weekend, all I wanted to do was build Lego. In this mature city we live in, I felt like I've become Benjamin Button and was aging backward.
I really wanted to tell close friends, but feared they would think I was little immature. One day, I got the courage to confess to my closest friend of my tenderness towards Legos. To my disbelief, I was shocked and kind of satisfied that we both had the same warmth towards Legos. After confessing in a close friend, I started talking to other adults who too loved Legos, but were also hiding in the shadows like me.
After learning that I’m not along, I started thinking why isn’t there an open community for like-minded LegoVisionaries to meet and build. So adult fans of Lego in the Big Apple, come out of the dark and join other like mind builders. You don't have to be prepared or equipped with anything to join us. If you like Lego, bring your self to the event. Please know that this is only open to adult fans of Lego in New York City. Most of our meet ups will be like the following: build Lego brick in the middle of the table and socialize over coffee, build awesome Lego pieces, show off sets, trade pieces, and mini-figures, and whatever happens organically.
We will be hosting events like below:
Stop Motion Workshop
Create Large Scene Together
Make Storyboard
Lego Flea Market / Trade
Sounds like your kind of community? contact us: [email protected]
We'll update you with details.
