The Monte Cassino was conquered by Polish soldiers?
The Battle of Monte Cassino started on the 17th of January 1944 and ended on the 19th May 1944.
Why did the Battle of Monte Cassino begin? So, the allies had to break the Gustav Line. The Gustav Line was blocking a road to Rome, so the allies to conquer Monte Cassino first.
The Monte Cassino had a great defence. English and French soldiers couldn't reach this point. When Polish general, Władysław Anders, arrived on the battle place with his soldiers, the allies started to win this very important battle. This battle was one of the most important battles of the second World War.
When the Poles started an assault, they were very excited, they wanted revange on the German occupant. In the first moments of the Polish assault, the Poles were losing, but soon they started to win the battle.
(I want to add one piece of information: The allies bombed this old monastery, because they thought that inside there were Germans, but there was nobody. Nice decision 👌.)
The Poles conquered the Monte Cassino, and the Polish flag was the first flag hanging on the Monte Cassino.
